(don't mean to get anything started)

karostay 08-24-2014 08:26 AM

Religion ='s $$$$$$$$$

jebartle 08-24-2014 08:31 AM

Just saying....

I can think of many many REALLY worthwhile charities that could use that $40 million...like "Wounded Warriors" and the list goes on!

dbanks50 08-24-2014 08:31 AM

To me small church says not in it for the money. Big church just the opposite!

sunnyatlast 08-24-2014 08:46 AM

And the stereotyping begins.

Glad you said that. I had to look him up. A Tele-evangelist. Never heard of him.

Joel Osteen's net worth

Did you read the full article at the website?

It says after his book came out in 2005, he gave up his $200,000 salary from the church.

It seems the majority of his wealth is from his publications

Quote below is directly from the website you cited.

"Once his inaugural book "Your Best Life Now" had become a New York Times best-seller in 2005, Osteen gave up his $200,000 church salary. As for Osteen's second book titled "Become A Better You", it has reportedly brought him in a cool $13 million. Joel Osteen, whose book sales and related stuff generates a reported $55 million, claims an individual should not feel guilt for possessing lots of material wealth. Instead, one needs to thank and praise God for the acquired wealth."

Joel Osteen is quite a guy. Probably most of his wealth comes from his books which I have found to be fairly inspirational reading. He takes physical fitness seriously and boasts six pack abs. Reputedly he can bench press 300 lbs but more likely it is 200 since he only weighs about 150 lbs. His wife is quite a looker.

Here is a photo of him on vacation. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairba...ss-joel_os.php

My guess is he is worth several times $40M by now.

He is intense and highly focused. His sermons are meticulously scripted, not spontaneous at all.

Chi-Town 08-24-2014 02:57 PM

He is probably the best televangelist since Bishop Fulton J Sheen.

jebartle 08-24-2014 03:40 PM

Just saying....

quite a contrast between Joel Osteen and his 10.7 million dollar home and Pope Francis with his very humble lifestyle, both reaching to the multitude, but different strokes for different folks...

There is big money in religion. Ever been to the Vatican?

Too, the Mormon church may now be the largest landowner in Florida. Mormon church: Florida's biggest private landowner? - CSMonitor.com

Robert H. Schuller and Rick Warren have done well, too.

Pope Francis humble home

Vatican apartments home to many popes but not Pope Francis..(peoples pope).

$40 mil? a few years ago Bloomberg valued our local developer at $2.5 Billion!

Rev. Joel Osteen's sermons are very positive and motivating. His books worth reading. His church Lakewood is the largest with 35,000 plus attendance each week.

His father (as I remember).was the previous pastor of the Lakewood Church. The church is in Houston, Texas. Search your Television channels if you want to hear a positive motivating sermon.

I agree. His sermons are positive and uplifting. He doesn't beg for money. He starts each service with a joke. I always feel a little better after listening to what he has to say.

I'm waiting to see him nominated for an Academy Award.

He puts on quite a show and his book are purchased by the same people who think he walks on water.
