Golf Cart Insurance
We are new to The Villages. Do we need golf cart insurance? Where do we get it? What does it cost? Thanks
|
Golf cart insurance
We have and would highly recommend it!! We have it through State Farm for $149 a year.
|
If you do not have it and cause an accident, the liability judgement against you could wipe out a lifetime of what you worked for. Cost is usually between $120 and $150 per year.
|
Concur. Probably you will never need it but it's cheap and if something were to happen, it makes life so much better for you.
Check around for rates. You can get it at the Villages Insurance, State Farm, and at AAA which gets you Progressive. Some other "auto" insurance plans have it also but they sometimes don't really know how to write a policy for "Golf Carts." Best they can do sometimes is motorcycle coverage policy so ask questions before you pay. |
Progressive calls ours a motorcycle policy but our carts are clearly identified as such. Asking if you need this insurance is somewhat akin to asking if you need homeowners and auto insurance; to not do so could (as pointed out by an earlier poster) wipe you out financially.

By the way, don't forget to ask your Broker about obtaining sink hole insurance. |
Our cart insurance is with The Villages Insurance, and it's with Foremost.

Get a separate golf cart policy that has liability coverage, medical payments, etc. People on carts in crashes often get thrown out onto pavement or curbs, sometimes with fatal or maiming injuries. Get seat belts, too!! Most cart crash injuries here in the streets are ejections. Villages Insurance sells policy thru Foremost. Premium is about $150 per year and WORTH it. |
I have Allstate. Stephanie at 259-3825. I get a good discount also because I have auto, home and umbrella too.

They sell Foremost Cart Insurance. Our cart insurance runs a little over a hundred a year on a 2014 cart with full coverages. They appreciate you business too. As with car insurance you have to know what your coverages are to compare the cost. |
You definitely should get the golf cart ins. policy . Once you are here, you may find that a lot of people "adjust their cart" so they can drive it over the recommended 20 mph. What most people won't tell you though, is that if you have an accident, and your cart has been adjusted, your insurance may not cover your accident. I don;t understand why everyone here is in such a hurry, this is a beautiful place-slow down and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!

I have golf cart insurance added to my homeowners policy and its $40 per year. I wonder if that is the proper coverage I need. I better check into that.

The 20 mph is the law! It is not only the law but if you get stopped for speeding, you will have HUGE fines to pay. |
