Love Bugs!

We are driving back home this Saturday; how are the love bugs?

redwitch 09-10-2014 04:06 PM

They're positively yucky. Have seen them much worse before but they're still here and being a nuisance.

tippyclubb 09-10-2014 04:10 PM

I drove in Monday and I had about 15 on front bumper. Thought it would be worse. Every time I see one I spray bug remover on the car and the love bugs wipe right off.

Bizdoc 09-10-2014 04:38 PM

The love bugs are just fine. They said to hurry home! <splat> Ooops, they couldn't wait...

Things that can help: spray Pam on the front bumper and grill. Most will slide right off after splatting. Have some dryer sheets in car. Moisten the sheets, wipe car, guts wipe right off. Then, when you have a chance hose the car down since the sheets leave a light film. (Works for windshields, too. Just use washer after wiping.)

Today was the heaviest day I've seen

OCsun 09-11-2014 05:51 PM

Thanks everyone! I was hoping those little buggers would be on their way by the time we got there. :)

CFrance 09-11-2014 05:54 PM

We walked out of Winn Dixie and two of the little buggers were caught in flagrant delicto in our grocery bag. No shame!

dbussone 09-11-2014 06:33 PM

Please keep the windshield up on your golf cart. P

I'm splattering as many as I can as I drive the roadways. I'll leave a few for you.

Aandjmassage 09-11-2014 06:54 PM

Drove to New Smyrna Beach and back today. Love Bugs:eek: just started to get bad on way back then it rained cleaned most off.

mtdjed 09-11-2014 07:11 PM

All is well. They are on strike and will not be back until they get $15/hour.

janmcn 09-11-2014 07:14 PM

You might want to plan a trip to the beach when you get back 'cause there are no love bugs in the coastal counties. Unfortunately, you will drive through a blizzard of them to get to the beach.

Many years ago...the first time I ever saw love bugs I was at Daytona Beach Shores staying at our condo and love bugs were much worse than I have ever seen here.
I haven't really noticed many around Buttonwood yet. Maybe they will avoid our area this time around. ;-)

I guess you've never visited the Space Coast in May or September?

Damn. Why won't they settle for $10 per hour?

janmcn 09-12-2014 06:27 AM

I should have said the gulf coast counties. Have never seen any in Pinellas county near the beach.

They have Lovebugs in Tampa according to this article.

Ick! Love bug season is in full swing | TBO.com, The Tampa Tribune and The Tampa Times

AND in Pinellas county too;

Whew. I thought I was gonna have to defend Gary Morse again.

Planting Pinellas: No love for lovebugs?

Whew. I thought I was gonna have to defend Gary Morse again.

That just mad me laugh
Let's blame Mr Morse for not disclosing that love bugs exist in May and October
Heck, he's so rich he should spend his fortune inventing a spray that would eliminate them
LOL

The only ones I've seen have gotten into my car with me. Yuck!

dave from deland 09-13-2014 08:15 PM

I wouldn't use Pam to protect against love bugs. Search engine revealed the following about getting the love bugs off of your car.

In those tips on the link, it is mentioned to use a pressure washer to remove the bugs. I think they meant the high pressure of a common garden hose nozzle, not a real pressure washer. My DIL took her car to a car wash once, and they were using a real pressure washer to blast the bugs off the front of the car. It also blasted the clear coat off part of the bumper before the attendant realized it and stopped. The car wash refused any kind of compensation.

Do not use a real pressure washer on your car!

Good Morning Everyone!

It's good to be home! We drove from 4:00 am to 8:00 pm yesterday. When I walked outside this morning, there were no love bugs!

Good job Doug! Thanks! :)

Having lived in Florida all my life, I learned rain is the best way to get the bugs off of your car. Just have to find a shower.
