Gained or Lost Weight since Moving to TV?
When we were at TV, we noticed how fit most of the residents are. I was hopeful that I might actually lose weight if I move to your piece of heaven. Then I had a few happy hours and started to think about the calories in those drinks. I would love some feedback on how your weight has reacted to living in TV, especially if you are full-time residents. How do you keep the weight off? Or have you gained with the lifestyle change?

I lost 15 lbs. last winter while in TV. Walking! Great places to walk.

Gained but enjoying myself
I've gained! I noticed when we first moved here that every time you have friends over, or go to their house they bring or have sweet treats to eat. Someone is constantly making yummy things and gifting it to me. I was thinking how wonderful this is because I would prefer sweets to most anything! So, it was right up my alley. Now, I have gained about an inch all all over but not much weight. Plus, we go out to eat and everything is so fattening. I know I have choices when I go out to eat to order more healthy food, but when the potatoes and fried chicken, meatloaf and other stuff is in front of me I simply have lost my willpower to refuse! Don't get me wrong, I'm not over weight but I would love to lose that inch I've gained all around. I just have to exercise more! I alway tell myself that I am fortunate to be able to get outside and be active most of the year so eventually the inch will come off. Oh well.....there's always tomorrow.

When we are there for 7 to 10 days we gain a pound or two. Something that is a concern. But know we would never eat and drink the way we do, if we lived in The Villages. For us, it's still the thrill of trying a new restaurant. We find a good variety and much different than the chains that surround us at home.

Since moving here a year ago I have lost 15 pounds and my wife has lost over 25 pounds. I bicycle, swim, play pickleball and table tennis and my wife takes 4 mile walks, does Zumba and pool aerobics. Neither of us drinks much and we tend to eat less now that we have moved to The Villages as we watch less TV here and do a lot less sitting around as we did back in New Hampshire, particularly during the winter. This is a very healthy place! You just need to do some consistent exercise and watch what you eat and drink.

I've lost. I from a desk job to a job ,requiring constantly moving, bending, lifting, standing on my feet. I may have to replace all of my golf clothes. :-)

I'm sitting at my desk right now with some "apple pie" soap that I've made. I swear I'm gaining weight just smelling it. I think they did research to that effect...smell triggers weight gain. Anyway, the soap needs to be moved!

I lose a couple of pounds every time I visit; unfortunately, they seem to be waiting for me back in Virginia.

Agree with above. I'm so busy when I'm down there that I lose a few pounds and when I get back to Chicago I find them.

My husband loves to tell people (in relation to the month we spent there), that it was the only vacation he's ever had in his life where he came home weighing less than when he arrived!! We also have been very impressed with the numbers of people out MOVING all the time! We love to walk when we golf, unless it's crazy hot and he plays basketball 4 times a week while he is there. We love it!!

Get active
Get out of the golf cart...walk..jog...hit the gym..eat better than you have in the past..no more donuts...yes..you can do it...you will lose weight...it starts with the right attitude :):loco:

I found that everyone here in TV centers the social things around food. They want to go out for dinner and drinks or get together and eat for any reason. I walk, I did water exercises and lots of different active things BUT my body quickly became accustomed to it so after initially losing a couple of pounds I put on those pounds and a couple more. I have gained 3 lbs since coming here. It doesn't sound like a lot but now I am back to doing Weight Watchers and I have to get them off before it turns into the Freshman 15. Not gonna happen!

I run 40 to 50 miles a week plus lift weights 4 times a week

Trust me… I do "get it"… about what you're "giving up". IF you've read these two books, you know the truth! I'm watching both of my parents die due to their dietary choices (High blood pressure, A-fib, morbid obesity, diabetes, macular degeneration, stents, quadruple-bypass, etc…) and have the added joy of watching my in-laws experience the same thing. These disease are NOT a normal part of aging. They are due to poor dietary choices! Remember… vibrant health well into your 90"s is NORMAL! What we have in America and most western cultures is a sick society. Just a reminder that dietary choices are not just about quantity of life, but quality. My (retired MD father) is 100 lbs overweight, eats whatever he "desires", can barely walk 10 feet and has to stop due to shortness of breath, even AFTER a pacemaker, refuses a scooter because he's not one of those "fat guys riding a scooter"…??? Is this what you want? Personally, I feel FANTASTIC living a "nearly-Vegan" lifestyle… but each to his own. We all make choices. I embrace your right to make choices, especially concerning your own life. Perhaps a modification of your diet, versus a full-blown throw in the towel I'm gunna eat whatever I wish? At any rate, peace to you! |
Lost 20 staying active is a big help used to work behind a desk but now I'm moving a lot more

Thank you all. I look forward to golfing with my husband, who enjoys walking the course. I also noticed the last time I was in TV that the heat killed my appetite. Now, if that will just continue permanently, I'll get back into shape.
