Dealing With Rude People At The Grocery Store

I have just returned from one of the most crowded, filled with rude people , places here in TV. All I wanted to do was to get my groceries and get out of there. Men and women stopping their carts anywhere to ck their lists, answer their cell phones, talk to a friend without regards to the flow of people trying to move up and down the aisles. The word "excuse me" was barely used, people just barged thru as if they were the only ones in the store. Please be aware of your surroundings, smile and do say, Excuse me to those around you. AND it's not even winter yet!!!! :boxing2:

JCMSr 09-21-2014 02:21 PM

Sounds like a typical trip to the grocery store on any weekend. If I could, I would only go grocery shopping between the hours of 1:00 am and 5:00 am where hopefully I would be the only idiot there!

I know....it's disturbing! Just keep a smile, says excuse me....and maybe others will learn by example.....probably not, but maybe......lots of old, cranky folks. Yes, I'm old; but I sure make a point of not being a cranky one.

Aandjmassage 09-21-2014 02:48 PM

We just came from Publix in Colony Plaza not that bad. Just slow checkout line.

JoMar 09-21-2014 03:18 PM

So....some parts of the Friendliest Hometown are less friendly than others......:)

cattywampus 09-21-2014 03:21 PM

Do NOT tell anyone ....

The Publix NORTH of Hospital on US 441 / 27 is pleasant,
staff is helpful and cheerful ,never crowed and always well stocked.

I live in Villages 6 1/2 miles from this Publix. Worth the drive.

It is between the Koyame Restaurant and Ollie's Frozen Custard.

I live 2 1/2 miles from Colony Publix.
Got tired of the pushy, me, me, me customers at the Publix in Colony.

Are we suppose to guess where this was? What do we win?

Reezie 09-21-2014 03:31 PM

It was probably Walmart. I go very early or very late. NEVER on the weekend.

Halibut 09-21-2014 03:34 PM

Sorry for the aggravation, Vicki.

I'm always half afraid the Publix at Spanish Plaines/Bella Cruz will close because it's never that crowded. Parking lot panhandlers aside, it's not unpleasant to shop there. I avoid going to the one at Spanish Springs/Bichara. Just navigating the parking lot is headache.

But then, I do sometimes slow down or stop walking while shopping to look at my list. I typically don't have a cart and try to stay off to the side of the aisles, but grocery shopping isn't a sprint for me. So basically -- I dislike slow people except when I'm one of them, then they're pretty great.

TNLAKEPANDA 09-21-2014 03:56 PM

Shop after 9pm when most of TV is getting ready for bed.

..... or first thing in the morning when the shelves are freshly stocked and only early birds are up and about.

billethkid 09-21-2014 05:58 PM

I have found the best time to go to any store types in TV if avoiding a crowd is of primary concern....between the hours of 7 PM and 9 PM....most have had their geritol, and dinner and are snoozing in front of the television.

I, as usual, do not accept what is being presented is a general condition. Yes there are peole who shop as presented in their own little world. But most of the other 90% of us do it right. These type of posts are usually done after one's hot button has been tripped for what ever reason, which DOES NOT repesent a general condition.

So lets hear it for the 90% of us who enjoy our fellow man/woman!

Well said Billie.

OBXNana 09-21-2014 06:20 PM

The same thing happens in in Central PA and is not isolated to The Villages. I'm in the grocery store by 7:00 am and have the store to myself. It's wonderful!

Not at all! Some of those who shop in The Villages are NOT Villages residents and they just might bring their lack of friendliness with them when they shop here!

asianthree 09-21-2014 06:49 PM

Shop very late, or when they open

PennBF 09-21-2014 07:15 PM

This is Wondeful

This is really wonderful. It means everything is so good that complaining about the people in a grocery store is the major problem. There are people out there with serious health problems or family problems (addictions, etc) or very stressful problems and therefore it is wonderful if the worst problem a person has is a line in a grocery store, or people in the isles who have stopped to read a list. We should count our blessing when that is as bad as it gets. Maybe taking a deep breath and relaxing and just enjoying life is the way to go. I only hope I ams so lucky that this is my worst nighmare. I think I can handle it and stop and smell the roses. :coolsmiley:

Halibut, is your Publix the same one that Cattywampus likes?

Some persons, not parts of TV.

I see the same thing when we grocery shop up north. People of any age are fit to be tied over the creeping price increases and smaller amounts of food for the increased price.

Tried that! The grocery stores close at 9 pm!

Medtrans 09-21-2014 08:00 PM

Look at it from this perspective, my husband and I wish we were down there so if the grocery store is busy so be it. We have our home down there but are just waiting for the retirement date. I would gladly stand in line or put up with the crowds to just be down there. Some things are the same no matter where you live such as the OP describes.

Sable99 09-21-2014 09:27 PM

It happens here in Michigan too. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is. So, its not just TV.

Not even winter yet. Thank you for not saying anything bad about snowbirds......well almost.

JoMar 09-21-2014 09:45 PM

When you get south of 466A there will be two Publix and a Winn Dixie. Not sure how much that will help with attitude but could help congestion (maybe). That is until the birds show up.

mtdjed 09-21-2014 09:58 PM

C'mon folks. I feel like I am hearing cantankerous old people complain about every day life. Put a smile on your face and the experience will improve. Life here is a joy. If you can't handle a grocery store here at this time, things will only get worse.

There will always be rude people, but do not let that destroy the blessing that you have to enjoy the rest. I have seldom found a person who does not respond well to a smile.

Miles42 09-21-2014 11:06 PM

Stay away on the weekends. I have learned that rather quickly. It is like the vultures are out and there is little food left. LOL

:agree: I think it's a joy to shop in The Villages. People who bag groceries at Publix offer to take your groceries to the car. We get to walk out to moderate temperatures all winter long instead of snow and ice. Prices are much lower than back home. It's all good.

Sounds like we were at Colony Publix at the same time and I totally agree with you! I'm not accustomed to this behavior and wonder where it originates. Certainly not in any city in the South where I've lived! And I can almost tell you for sure that over 90% of the shoppers were indeed villagers! My poor hubby, who rarely frequents any grocery store, was almost mowed over a couple of times. At least if I ever want to knock him off, I know where to take him! :cus:

Patty55 09-21-2014 11:36 PM

I don't think they are rude, more like self-absorbed. IMO, it's a result of the sales office filling their heads with how special they are.

Just take a deep breath, mentally repeat "They are what they are, they do what they do", grab a half dozen jars of capers and call it a day.

We were at TJ MAX today.
A lady was blocking the exit of the check-out lane because she had stopped to text

Nosmo12 09-22-2014 05:43 AM

The worst thing about grocery stores are the inconsiderate people who leave their carts anywhere in the lot. They have those stations for a reason. Nothing worse than watching a perfectly capable human just walk away with cart shoved between two vehicles. Pet Peeve of Mine

One time I was loading the groceries into the back of my car and I pulled a muscle in my back. I left the cart between 2 cars and was thankful that I could get into my car to drive home. Five minutes before I was in perfect condition, then ......so you could have been very annoyed with me I guess.

travelguy 09-22-2014 06:30 AM

publix closes at 9 pm. and most of the delis that are located in stores that stay open are closed by then.
and let's not forget to include in the rude group those that love the sample meals at publix and insist on double portions as if publix is there to provide a free meal.

I agree with everything you say, except the prices. Food prices are generally lower in NY than in TV.

I am tired of not meeting you in person. You are so funny and so quick and so ........................ Patty55, You are responsible for at least 30 personal coffee spits. There is probably not a dry computer in The Villages.

I am NEVER gonna get on your bad side if I can keep from it.....lol...

That would be me. I leave them for the people who do such things.

NYGUY 09-22-2014 07:43 AM

I was told that the new Publix on Rt44 will be opening October 2nd. That should provide some relief for the Colony Publix:a040:

And you can rest assured that these same people would be the first to complain to the store manager in the event that a runaway cart happened to damage their car/cart or, heaven forbid, the cart happened to be abandoned in the last parking space closest to the entrance forcing them to walk an extra step or two.
