NYE update, meeting w/VPAA 4/23?
New Years Eve at the polo fields????? ........A big charity event sounded like a great thing to me, but I am just a tiny grain of sand in a big ocean. May the powers that be, be ashamed for not hosting a midnight NYE event after allowing it for a while............you disappointed many, many people that had planned an evening at the squares!!!!!! Imagine the party at the polo fields on NYE, What a great place and a huge charitable event it could have been. It would have been a great reason for friends and family to visit. We have beautiful weather and don't want to be stuck inside a restaurant or club. UPDATE>>>>>>>> The Volunteers Performing Arts Alliance fundraising committee is going to discuss a NYE charity EVENT at their meeting 4/23 (INFO POSTED BELOW) and want to meet w/interested TOTV peeps about the idea. I can not make this meeting. Can any of you? I've told VPAA I would let them know........

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Sounds like a great idea, though we personally are clueless as to how to go about arranging for something like this. In other words, we'd be delighted to participate but are ignorant of the logistics....
|
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
;D Ronda, this is a fabulous idea. I was so disappointed last NYE, my first in TV, because the squares closed down at 9. I wondered then why they didn't use the polo field as the Christmas festivities were so much fun there. So I'm all for it. I don't have any "clout" but I'll do anything I can to help. Write a letter, design a flyer, etc. Just let me know. I think "America's Friendliest Home Town" should see the New Year in together. And the charity contribution is a wonderful idea. I'll help in anyway I can. Maybe some kind of committee can be formed to approach the powers that be???

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Chels, Last year was our 4th NYE here in the Villages. I wanted to cry......9 PM and it was time to go home!! The year before, it was packed....we had food of all sorts and all our new Villages friends laughing, dancing, and ringing in the year together! Everyone went there seperate ways this past year. Its time to find a big site, and make it an annual event!! After expenses all proceeds to charity. I was impressed with the Navy Seal expo, there was a great stage area, and enough land for Villages "Woodstock" NYE!! Probably just dreaming, but did notice NYE open on Rockys' site!!
|
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
We always come to TV between Christmas and New Years and always enjoyed the squares...up until last year with the changes. Well, not totally as we left and continued to party with our friends at our house. But it just wasn't the same as being at the Square to ring in the New Year.
I would love Rocky and the Rollers being at the Polo Fields (and I think this is a grand idea). But.....I'm not sure they would risk their standing with TV and the new rule of closing down at 9. If Rocky booked privately with us, would they lose their standing with the management of TV and lose being asked to play at the Squares? I will do whatever I can (long distance from Michigan) to get this event going. If you need any help, just let me know. |
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
We're also in if you need help. My daughter worked for an events planner in Nashville and would be happy to give us some direction and possibly meet with us to direct us and perhaps help us plan it. Let me know if I can help.

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
I think this is a great idea. I'm in NJ taking care of 2 ill parents for now so can't help much from here. But the charity idea is superb. Great plan Rhonda. The genius of y'all never fails to amaze me. That, in itself, is mostly what attracts me to TV. What a bunch of creative people. Can't wait to meet some of you at Crisper's on the 18th.

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Can TOTV be the major sponsor?
|
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
It is a good idea, however I am more for putting the pressure on the "powers that be" to bring back celebrating in the town squares that has been SO SUCCESSFUL until the new generation management came on the scene.
Start hammering them now!!! BTK |
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Going to talk to Rocky (Gerry), tomorrow night. I will let you know his thoughts! Wish me luck!
|
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Like this charity NYE idea more than bringing back the festivities for NYE at the town squares. Too many people now in TV really for public law enforcement to handle security at these parties. The Villages would have to hire private security now for these to go on and I do not see them doing that.
|
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
I believe the NYE in the Squares was open to the public (correct me if I'm wrong). I can understand why security was an issue for safety reasons. This event at the Pole Field should be for TV residents and their guests ONLY--back to checking ID's--which is a good thing. I think security will be less of a concern, but needed just as well (less man power) The idea is terrific, and it would be even better if TOTV was the sponsor. |
Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
You are correct that the squares are open to the public. The stores, restaurants and businesses depend on that, rightfully so. Security could be minimal and involve Village watch and other volunteers. I believe Villagers would appreciate this as a "private" event! How big of a crowd at $10 pp could we expect? 7,000....could the polo fields accomodate that many people? That would be $70,000. $20,000 for expenses enough? staging? porta potties, security officers? etc.? $50,000 for charity is huge!! The Town Squares could still have entertainment for "outside TV" people or others that aren't into the midnight ritual. For many years I worked NYE, and wish for this big event to come to truition. I will ask Gerry if this idea can be presented to the right people.

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
I just completed putting on a event at the Polo Field. The lower floor of the pavilion will hold 600 people sitting around 5' tables. Unfortunately they only have 38 tables, not a problem. I chaired the Parrot Heads poker run there. We sold 666 tickets and ate 570 hot dogs and we served them in 52 minutes. I think 7000 is pie in the sky but with a little planning 1500 is doable. First a committee has to formed, then the Polo Field has to be reserved, as deposit will be required. ( contact Don Waggoner 352-750-7656 ) If TOTV is a sponsor they must assume some responsibility. I am sure they will be part of the committee. The committee will have to get quotes for entertainment, food and printing expenses. I am not happy to tell you a lot of volunteers also disappear when the prep work starts. A charity must be chosen and then their endorsement will open a lot of doors. Once a commitment is made you must follow thru or lose credibility. I am snowbird but I would be willing to help.

Re: 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Thank you, Rich. The info you provided may be the info needed. ;D I am thinking an all day into the evening event. The entertainment here in TV is varied and very good. The entire lawn could be utilized for personal chairs and 1 small table per 2 attendees. (with a dance area up front!). Tickets could be purchased in advance by residents and registered guests only. The vendors could be set up around the perimeter. Charities could include Operation Shoebox, Hospice, Parrothead charities!!! and other local charities. Thanks for your offer to help, I may keep in touch. ;) OK all my sistahs, (and bruddahs I never had) lets keep this going more ideas??

Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Ronda, great idea. Definitely add me to the list of volunteers when this comes to fruition.
|
Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
A place to start would probably be The Entertainment Department. Call Nodia at ph 750-5411, she maybe able to give guide lines.

Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Rokinronda:
Put me on the volunteer list. I love the idea. I have been involved in similar events and it is a lot of hard work ,meetings and planning sessions. You are wise to begin the process right now. |
Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Dennis, Beady, everyone, Thanks. I was willing to put my heart and soul into this. I am sad to say if Rocky is playing elsewhere, I will probably be elsewhere, also.
|
Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Ronda, is Rocky playing elsewhere? Do you know that for sure? Please let us know. I still think it's a great idea. I think Rocky is good, but I'm not as enamoured with him as some. Please let us know if you have given up on the idea.

Re: UPDATED 4/6 11:30 pm 1st Annual New Years Eve Extravaganza Idea
Hello Everyone,
Great idea for NYE, wish i could say i will be there, but haven't sold yet. But if I can help from here please let me know. jmemc |
Re: UPDATED 4/7 NO NYE party at the POLO fields
Rocky doesn't think he is playing here this NYE. I don't think TV wants to do anything so that the clubs and restaurants will do good. I want an outdoor party, under the stars and will travel to find one. TV squares for NYE were great for a couple of years. Sorry to have even mentioned this.................. ::)
|
Re: UPDATED 4/7 NO NYE party at the POLO fields
Ronda, it was such a great idea, don't be discouraged. We should brainstorm this thing at the April totv lunch and come up with some ideas. We can't let this go too easily, its a wonderful concept.
Don't worry, we can pull this off somehow. Kath |
Re: UPDATED 4/7 NO NYE party at the POLO fields
How about some "Name" entertainment to draw a crowd (Villlages only). Oftentimes the names are available with a little planning due to engagements in the area.

Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
BRAINSTORMING and Voila! Thanks TOTV for the link (favorites) about the committee that wants a performing Arts Center. They asked for ideas for fundraising and this is my letter to the committee president and vice president ....maybe they can help! .................................................. ..............Hello, Let me introduce myself, my name is Rhonda. I moved to The Villages in 2004 at age 48. We are the next generation of The Villages. Your site was quite impressive and I am wondering why it has not been updated. The generation arriving in central Florida will highly appreciate an accoustical performing arts center with quality entertainment and professional educational commitments. The link was provided at www.talkofthevillages.com . I had an idea for a great New Years Eve charity event and was asking how it could happen in the forums. The Polo fields would be the ideal place. Apparently, the Polo fields have been denied in the past. I am a very friendly, outspoken individual and I have found that Villages Residents, family and guests would love to have an outdoor venue for New Years Eve, under the stars, with a big countdown and fun entertainment. Maybe you know of another nearby site if the Polo Fields were unavailable. Many people in the talkofthevillages website have knowledge on how to coordinate a large event such as this: entertainment, staging, lighting, security, vendors, 1st night Buttons for sale everywhere! Even if people have other commitments, they would buy a button, just for your cause. You have the people, the charitable need and the expertise. The credentials displayed are overly impressive. I have been in the customer service workforce for 36 years, am not highly educated, but I have a keen business sense and an undeniable love of music, theatre and the arts. If all of the Villagers, residents clubs, neighborhoods, and families were encouraged to attend an ARTSY NEW YEARS EXTRAVAGANZA to support a true arts center, this could be a huge success!! Just wanted to send my thoughts and wish you much success on a Performing Arts Center!! Feel free to reply with your thoughts.

Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
You are too kind, chels! Its just that I created this post and almost feel obligated to deliver! It's a shot in the dark..........but worth a try for TOTV friends!
|
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
:o Well, don't stress yourself out over it Ronda. We'll just see what happens. ;)
|
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
Not stressed at all, just wide awake!! I figure I could try this, and if it helps great, if not, I tried!! ;D
|
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
Great letter Ronda! Keep us posted.
|
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
Rokinronda: The idea is a fantastic one . New Years under the stars. What could be more fun. TV is big enough to host parties on the squares and at the Polo Fields,. I think they each appeal to a certain crowd and age group. If the square parties are going to conclude at 9, then those who want to continue celebrating, could begin to gather at the Polo Field.
I will help any way I can to see this happen. Sincerely hope the Performing Arts Center (which we need ) becomes a reality and we can partner with them to make both the center and the party happen. Rock On!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: |
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
Your letter was well done. I don't think it could have been better.
Let's hope. |
Re: UPDATED 4/9 Brainstorming a NYE party
UPDATE.........4/12 The president of the VPAA has contacted me and I wanted to let everyone know the issue is on the next meetings agenda!
|
Re: UPDATED 4/12 Brainstorming a NYE party
Ronda, please see my other post. But wanted to know if this is an open meeting or if you need any of us to go with you or write letters??? GREAT JOB GIRL! You're :#1:
|
Re: UPDATED 4/12 Brainstorming a NYE party
Just finished reading all of the post. Rok you wrote a great letter. Thank you. Letter sounds just like the Rok I know.
Have been involved in planning and organizing events and would love to help. I believe I still have one of the organization charts that was used. Made things easier and everyone knew what there responsibility was from the start. I personally feel this should be a village residents only party otherwise numbers can become unmanageable. Leesburgh did a great job for NYE last year. In one of the events that we participate in I contacted the local police and volunteer ambulance association to be at the event in case we needed them. The police were there primarily to help with traffic control. Also had different events going on, sold spaces to vendors as a way of raising more money and of course sold raffle tickets. Raised approximately $2,000 selling tickets and would have made more - but we put a time limitation on selling tickets. Count us in as experienced helpers. If we do not get the polo fields then I would be willing to help with brainstorming for another place to hold the event. HB |
Re: UPDATED 4/12 Brainstorming a NYE party
The next meeting of the VPAA is on the 23rd of April, but the link to the site is down. I asked what time and where the meeting will be. I also offered to go to the meeting, if possible. I also asked why the website said it was "suspended" hhmmmmmm Does anyone know when the Villagers survey results will be out?? I'm sure there are lots of requests for NYE Villagers party!
|
Re: UPDATED 4/14 Brainstorming a NYE party
Nope. We never even got a survey to take part in. :dontknow: When did they come out? Were they in the mail?
|
Re: UPDATED 4/14 Brainstorming a NYE party
yes, chels, about a month ago. ::)
|
Re: UPDATED 4/14 Brainstorming a NYE party
Just rec'd EMAIL from president of VPAA and I have a business appt. that day! If there is anyone interested in representing TOTV NYE party hopefuls, this is an open invitation. I have explained my predicament, and will keep in touch with VPAA. Advance thanks to those who are interested! HERE IS THE EMAIL from Volunteers Performing Arts Authority. Rhonda,
We would like it if you, and your friends, could meet with us immediately after our Steering Committee Meeting on Wednesday the 23rd. If possible, could you come to the conference room at Community Bank and Trust on 466. It is about in the center of the new banking area, west side of the highway about a half-mile south of the high school. We would most certainly like to meet you and answer questions you may have. 11AM should see us finished with our Committee meeting and then we will have time to talk with you. Let me know, Thanks, VPAA |
