Wearing headphones: Any risk for developing brain cancer?
I play a DVD movie every night on a portable DVD player that is plugged into a wall outlet. The built in speakers are not very good so I use a deluxe headphone set. The headphone set provides great sound but I wonder if I am at risk doing this every night. I guess the average movie lasts close to two hours.

Geez, I hope not! I would worry more about hearing loss than cancer. I do admit that I use the speaker phone on my cell phone when not in public because the little voice in my head worries about radiation.

A. You may get brain cancer
B. You used headphones A is not related to B. Enjoy your movies |
You could get cancer from falling off a roof, you know. The fall could cause the dormant disease to suddenly become active. Have you ever had a bad fall like Humpty Dumpty ??

I worked in radio for 35 years wearing headphones eight hours a day six days a week. Don't have brain cancer. As for hearing loss... what? Huh? Speak up.

Earphones and brain cancer
Numerous and ongoing scientific studies have not found any link between cell phone usage and brain cancer. And cell phones emit radiation, whereas earphones only carry a small electric current on a wire into the ear buds.

I am afraid of spraying of pesticides and worry about the workers that do it. I don't like the strong smell in Bed, Bath and Beyond and Kirklands, it CAN'T be good for you. I would worry about the folks who work there. I don't know where the post went that was bragging about our granddaughter who wears earphones for work everyday.. I do think that an unhealthy fixation on the upcoming event that none of us can avoid isn't conducive to peace and happiness for the time we now have to enjoy. |

Enjoy
1. If hearing assist devices carrying small amounts of electric current, like headphones, cause cancer, why aren't the thousands of The Villages residents who wear hearing aids all afflicted with cancer?
2. If wearing over-the-ear headphones were believed to cause cancer I'm sure the word would be out among the amateur radio community where hobbyists have been wearing them extensively since the 1920s, and I have never heard of such a thing at my radio club. 3. Wisdom dictates that you carefully avoid playing the sound too high because of the risk of damaging your hearing. 4. Enjoy your headphones. |
:jester:sure just ask the Village doctors on here... lol

Remember, you said you subscribe to the Journal of the American Medical Association. Does that mean you have an unhealthy fixation? Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. |
I think I have good news, VP, when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in '08 (thankfully benign) the first question the neurosurgeon asked me was, how much do you use a cell phone? Not,, how often do you use a headset.. That's good news, huh? The other good news, it was benign and never returned.
