What is your favorite show about food?
A Chef’s Life [click here to watch it] It is a PBS show.
[My Review--This is a great show for me, my favorite show. I love cooking using local ingredients and I always wanted to know what it's like to run a restaurant. That's what it's about and more. It feels very homey, even the theme song. You see the pressure between husband and wife being business partners. So it's a reality show too without the BS and ego. The chef Vivian is a real working mom with 4 year old twins. I especially like when Vivian goes to the local farms and fisheries. You do learn about cooking and presentation too.] What follows is from the website: A Chef's Life is a half-hour character-driven documentary and cooking series that takes viewers inside the life of Chef Vivian Howard, who, with her husband Ben Knight, left the big city to open a fine dining restaurant in small-town Eastern North Carolina. Each episode follows Vivian out of the kitchen and into cornfields, strawberry patches and hog farms as she hunts down the ingredients that inspire her seasonal menus. Using a chef’s modern sensibilities, Vivian explores Southern cuisine, past and present — one ingredient at a time. A celebration of true farm to table food, the 13-week series combines the action and drama of a high-pressure business with the joys and stresses of family life. About the Show Vivian Howard originally made a name for herself in the Manhattan restaurant world and with her own gourmet delivery service. Acclaim and potential investors poured in, but it was the offer from her own parents that called to her the loudest. They would help her build a restaurant — but with one catch. She had to open it back home in Eastern North Carolina, a place to which she swore she would never return. And so The Chef & the Farmer, located in Kinston, North Carolina, was born. Six years in, Vivian and her restaurant have won numerous accolades, including her selection as a James Beard semi-finalist, but the challenges continue. As the series opens, Vivian and Ben are juggling the restaurant, raising twins and anxiously building their own home — right next door to her parents. |
I love cooking competition shows. 2 favorites are The Next Food Network Star and Master Chef. There are so many good ones.
|
The two Cooks Illustrated shows, America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country, are my favorites. I haven't tried A Chef's Life yet, but I will.

Yan Can Cook was Martin Yan. Martin Yan actually worked for Stephen Yan in the 80's. We really enjoyed them both. They both were so entertaining. |

I like Diners, Drive Ins and Dives ! (aka Triple D)

I used to enjoy Graham something or other from Australia. [maybe Kerr?] When he drank he was pretty funny.
I liked Beard too and The Frugal Gourmet a long time ago [80's]. I like cooking shows that teach you how to cook. Too bad the smells didn't float through the tv too. |
Triple D, (Dinner Drive-in and Dives). Guy Fieri, has such a large personality.
At Home with Giada DeLaurentis. The Barefoot Contessa. |
my favorite food show
It's a toss between Ann Burrell and Giada......One talks to her food (very entertaining) and Giada is so tiny but REALLY enjoys every morsel she samples.
|
We watch Food Network, Cooking Channel and PBS cooking shows. Enjoy Pioneer Woman, Barefoot Contessa, Triple D, and Lydia. When we aren't working or watching Food TV, we stalk all of you. Thanks for all the great info you've provided over the months.
|
Definitely Top Chef is my favorite especially the new season which is in Boston. :)
|
Giada,..have been TiVoing episodes for the last several months in preparation for our move to our forever home. Since we are Italian her recipes look yummy and what I remember my grandma cooking.

I have several:
Tyler's Ultimate with Tyler Florence. Easy to follow recipes and you can find them on the internet. Good Eats with Alton Brown - informational and entertaining - great hints Bobby Flay - several shows - I always liked the Grillin and Chillin show. Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello Down Home with the Neelys - Patrick and Gina Neely - good recipes - unfortunately I read that they are getting divorced. I also liked Paula Deen. She gave me some great hints. Barefoot Contessa has great hints also. Z |
I like Barefoot Contessa. She
Tests all recipes in her East Hampton home. My neighbor's niece!! I trust her recipes. |

I like Chopped for entertainment, NOT to learn anything about cooking. It's fun to imagine what would I do if I were given anchovies, strawberry jam and scallions to make an hors deuvre. I dunno.
|
We watch the chew. Have made some great dishes from each host
|
We used to love Julia Childs on PBS and watched Rachel Ray prior to her having a talk show...but Julia was the best...especially when she wanted to add a little wine to the dish she was preparing. While here in TV, we stumbled across a show called 'Cook Your Ass Off' and watched it only because of the outrageous title. It usually has three different chefs trying to cook something special for it's panel.
