Anyone know what this compartment in my refrigerator door is for?
1 Attachment(s)
Inside my (new-to-me, one year old) refrigerator door is this compartment - I put butter in the right-hand side of it, but is there a purpose for the round compartment?
|
Is that where the ice falls thru from the ice maker?
|
Yes, the ice goes through the hole at the bottom, but I'm talking about the round place at the top, which has a bottom to it, but what to put into it? It looks like it was designed for something. The manual doesn't mention it.

Try a Google search.

Wine bottle holder?

I found this picture of a fridge with that compartment, and stuff in it but it is hard to tell.....definitely butter on the right. It looks like something wrapped up on the left.
Aha! Just below it there is another holder and it looks like it has grated cheese in it. |
It's a beverage cooler compartment. Supposed to chill beverages about 4 degrees cooler that everything else.
|
I keep my soy sauce in it. Sometimes my Worcestershire sauce. It's for a beverage? I love this forum.

Anyone Know This Is For?
I think it's for keeping cold things cold. Now a thermus can also keep hot things hot. But the big question is---How does it know? |

We also keep grated cheese container in that spot. Fits perfectly! Don |
I learn something every day. I still don't know why my LG refrigerator door in-door model has and soda shelf that holds 3 1/2 can of beverage. Weird.
|
I love discussions about fridge doors and how to load dishwashers and the best kind of detergent.
Is the round opening tall enough for a bottle of white wine? If not, I'd keep a condiment there. |

The place in the door is too short to accomodate a bottle of wine. Like anything in this world today, it doesn't matter what something was designed for. If you have a use or better use for something, do it! I use that "hole" for whatever will fit there. Currently, it's a bottle of bar-b-q sauce, but that could change tomorrow depending upon what's for dinner! I don't keep Worcestershire sauce or even Ketchup (I hate cold ketchup on hot food!) in the refrigerator. You don't have to; check the labels and you'll see I'm right. I'm a master at loading dishwashers. Years ago I worked for a Whirlpool distributor! |
Speaking of warm ketchup - in my college days I was a waitress during the summers and in outdoor areas where they kept ketchup on the tables, the ketchup would start to bubble and ferment. Who knows....maybe a new taste sensation?

I always thought catsup should be cold and never thought about soy sauce. We didn't HAVE soy sauce when I was a kid. I don't think it is German. I know one thing about designers of refrigerators, they are sadists. Why couldn't they have designed everything to come out and fit in the dishwasher. Have you ever tried to get dried on, glopped on milk spills from the back? Dishwashing stuff doesn't unglue it and your back is killing you very soon from the sideways crouch. |
Heck, I'm just trying to get used to the smaller appliances
I dislike them intensely |
We use it for partially used water bottles. If it is in that slot we know someone has drank some of the water from the bottle.
|
As far as I know, the only condiment that needs to be refrigerated is maple syrup (which isn't really a condiment). I do keep Dijon mustard in the fridge because it's expensive. don't think you have to refrigerate pickles, but I like them cold.

I thought the whole refrigerator was a beer cooler compartment.
