Received strange email through TOTV
 

I received a very disturbing and unwelcome email today that claims to have come through TOTV. It claims to be from Naela @ Talk Of The Villages, and the email address is NaelaCastingProduction@gmail.com. I am wondering how this person got my email address, and if anyone else has received this email. I forwarded it to Admin but have received no explanation back from them. Here it is:

We (Cornwell Casting) are currently casting for a new show nationwide and looking for people to be part of the process.

I would love to hear your opinions on The Villages and its Residents.

We want to see the world through your eyes as someone who is retired, living, or working in a retirement community. We know you are not like the regular grandparents that we are used to, and we want to see your view.

What are the struggles of retirement? What are your victories of retirement? Do you or your family miss being around each other, or are you happy to be independent for the first time in years. Do pick up lines get better with age?

Maybe you know someone in The Villages who would be interested as well, as we want to see the views of retirement from different angles.

Casting, "Naked and Afraid" on Discovery Channel

I too have been having problems with TOTV, Kathie. Frequently when I try to click from an email link to the post it refers to, or even just try to get on TOTV, I get a blank white screen. I've tried asking Admin about this twice, but no response. And I don't know how to send them a screen shot of the problem. That is, I know how to do a screen shot, but I can't find where to attach it when I go to Contact Us.

Something is wrong somewhere, and now this spam mail. It has gotten my privacy hackles up.

It is a casting company. She has emailed me and left a message. I told her I wasn't interested.

Same here...blank screen. Have to reboot. Four times today.

My concern is how did she get a private email address? The only way could have been through the forum. Are our email addresses being sold or given out?

That I do not know. She contacted me thru my professional email not my private one which I used to register on this site.

I received one as a private message as well from the same person.

Depends how you set options. You don't get the email addy but you can send an email directly. I just sent one to cfrance although I don't have her email address.

To change options, go to UserCP at top of page, click on Edit Options under settings and options, click on whatever choices you want.

So Dee, this person is emailing all those she can on the site, and PM'ing all those she can't. But how did she get claricecolin's email that isn't registered on TOTV?

Cfrance.... This does happen from time to time. Someone will join the site, not post, but, use the PM feature of the site to send unwelcome PMs to other members. They can only send one PM at a time..they cannot blast one message to multiple members. Admins and Mods don't know this is happening unless it is reported.

We will take action to remove posting and account privileges for this spammer. Others should ignore this PM.

Generally, you will get an email from TOTV notifying you that you have a PM. The person that sent the PM to you should not be able to see your private email address. Did you get the email as a notification from Totv? If so, that is normal. You should not have received an email directly from the spammer.

If you receive an unwelcome PM, you can use the red triangle feature to report it to the Admin and Mods so we can take action.

It is an unfortunate side effect of our cyber society.

This company has met with others in The Villages and is looking for more interested parties. They will not bother you if you ignore them, but if you are interested they will interview you via Skype as they are looking for people and content for a show about retired people who have fun in retirement communities.

Ok! Karen is the friend I mentioned earlier. A few of the singles enjoyed a skype discussion with the casting co. (Not me, I am with Emily Dickenson: "how very public like a frog...")

Oy. Looking at their past projects, I can only imagine it will be a real high-class show.

If anyone speaks to them, let us know if the questions veer towards booze and loofahs. :)
