Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
Imagine your lifestyle without gasoline There is a benefit to living in The Villages (TV) that we should think about, should gasoline use up a 5 dollar bill for a gallon. it's called the golf cart, be it gas or electric, it is a means of transportation to any or all needs to continue your lifestyle as if gasoline was not an issue. To mention a few and not all that come to mind is: Banking, groceries, prescriptions, Dr's, haircuts, entertainment, hardware supplies, clothing, notions and cosmetics, dining, exercise facilities, and the list goes on and on. How is this possible, a stranger to TV might ask. I refer to the foresight of the founders of TV to include the golf cart paths and accessible roadways making a golf cart an alternative to a car. I doubt seriously that the founders ever guessed that the gasoline driven car could become a dinosaur, but the truth is that is exactly what is happening whether we wish to recognize it now or later. Our grandchildren will see the obsolescence of the internal combustion engine as a means of powering “people movers“. Electricity is the cleanest renewable resource in use today and with new technology in the battery industry and photo voltaic industry it is the electric golf cart of today that will become the larger “people mover” of tomorrow. The popularity of the electric golf cart in TV has provided proof that we can live a grand lifestyle without using gasoline to move us from one store to the other. The access to stores to supply our needs and the cart paths to get us there is a huge plus when telling strangers why TV is so popular. It almost spooks me to think that the founders put all of this together many years ago when gasoline was 50-60 cents a gallon. Who would have ever know what they created for us in a world where gasoline is no longer an issue with us to enjoy life. My hats off to the TV founders and I hope that we take care of the privilege we have in TV and use the golf cart wisely and safely as we thumb our noses at the gas pumps on the way to Walmarts. |

Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
Handie,
So true....we put gas in the "real car" maybe every 4 or 5 weeks; first choice for getting around is always the golf cart for all the reasons you cited. Not just for fun stuff (golf, tennis, town squares, etc) but for the everyday necessities of life -- shopping, doctors, visiting, errands, etc. The transportation system here makes that all possible. I also applaud the developers for their foresight. |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
I agree ... when in TV, we only use the car for large shopping trips. Wish we could use golf carts here in NH.

Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
We better start "imagining" for Kramer was on the "Today" show predicting $5.00 a gallon gas within the year!!!!!
$5.00 a gallon would definitely change most peoples life style.......talk about inflation!! |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
:agree:
When we did our preview visit using the golf cart was a big plus and one of the reasons we like TV. We took the cart everywhere from one end of the villages to the other. Left rental car in driveway for our week there and maybe used it one time when we left TV. So much nicer to drive along and see everything when visiting TV and will be even better when we move there. |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
Absolutely agree, totally, totally, totally, however,,,,,,,what happens when gas prices makes WalMart too expensive to buy. I'm telling you, it will affect EVERYTHING we do. I'm scared to death. Pretty soon we won't be able to fly the grandkids down to spend time with us.

Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
On TV all you hear is that people should use public transportation and ride bikes, etc. What if you live in the country like we do in the summer in Michigan. It is a good twenty miles to a grocery store of any size. Everything we do is a hike so we have to plan our shopping when we do go.
The Villages is going to be more popular than ever. Everything is golf cart accessible and so convenient. We just love being there all winter. |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
My husband and I have been debating downsizing to one car when we make the permanent move to TV. He wants to sell one but I want to keep both cars til I'm really, really sure we can live with only one car and a cart. But with this gas situation, I'm rethinking that, and about ready to give up HIS car. With the shuttle available to get to the airport, and everything else so cart convenient, I think we may could do it.
Anyone else struggled with this issue??? |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
RIGHT ON !! Sent my car North-using only electric golf cart and love it....No need for a car here..

Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
Just wish Doggie Doo Run Run were golf cart accessible at least for those following the rules of the road and the golf course abutting Doggie Doo Run Run. >:(

Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
One car and a golf cart is very wise. We sold hubby's car when we moved here. Having one car is not a problem and gas consumption is way down. I use the cart for everything, from going to the pool to grocery shopping. Only when I need to do a big shop do I take the car or get to Lowe's or any where that is not cart accessible.
We live in Piedmont on the northern part of TV. Some rides in the cart take a while , say LSL, but it such a pleasant ride , who cares if it takes extra time. I have time now, and I am enjoying it, every way possible. :) 040 |
Re: Imagine your lifestyle without Gasoline
We intend to become a one car family when we make the move to TV. Still debating the electric vs. gas issue for the cart. We also have two 50cc Honda scooters that get 100 mpg. Those are to run over to get the mail and maybe a quick trip to the store.
