Dogs in Tamarind Grove Green Space
There is a posting on the bulletin board stating that the green space is not to be used for dog walking. Please do one thing or the other, remove the sign or enforce the ban. As it currently stands, there are lots of people flagrantly violating the rules.

How would they enforce the ban? Would that be the job of Neighborhood Watch? They can't be everywhere at once. |
[QUOTE=Villages PL;976354]Is the bulletin board in a place where everyone can see it?
The question is, is it low enough for the dog to read it. The owner may or may not care, |

They might need to have a big free-standing sign in the middle of this green area that says, "No Dogs". |
I've been in Bonny Brook over 10 years. I have never read the bulletin board.
And, unfortunately, I don't have a dog to read it to me. |

The people of TOTV have no authority to enforce the ban or remove the sign. The Villages addressed this topic last year, after some residents decided Tamarind Grove Mail Station would make a convenient dog park- to exercise their dogs off leash. When the mail station parking lot became congested with people from other villages coming with doggies and some loose dogs caused problems, local residents complained to the powers that be. For a short time, about a week, community watch drivers were stationed in the parking lot-all dog owners were asked NOT to use the area as a free run for their dogs. They discouraged taking the dogs there at all. After more complaints, the new 'rule' was relaxed, allowing owners to take a stroll in the green area with LEASHED dogs, for quiet enjoyment. (Droppings were expected to be picked up.) Evidently, some kindergarteners can't be given an inch of leeway, for the 'green' privilege has been abused again (by some) so now it is off limits in general for dogs- per notice. I think there was also an article about it in The Daily Sun as well. People KNOW. Unfortunately, we have residents who don't follow rules and don't care if they alienate people. Just be glad they're not related to you. :mornincoffee: |
Although printed on "Villages" stationery, the postings are unsigned, and I tend to ignore them since I do not know where they originated.

I have seen the mail staions in several villages that are the favorite spot for some dog owners. When I see one at our staion I tend to linger which makes some of the self conscious and they pick up their dog and leave. The hard core could care less and neither do I EXCEPT for the ones who do not clean up after their dogs.
When all gets said and done if they all cleaned up after their dogs it would be a non issue....for most of us. I still do not know why or understand why there are so many resident dog owners who just will not use their own yard....and are perfectly comfortable using yours or the mail station. We have a dog and we use our yard.......my favorite sport? Getting to the sprinkler control when I see one headed for my yard..... |

I love dogs but some dog-owners have lost any semblance of sense or manners.
Not only are they embarrassing themselves and responsible dog owners, I do believe they are embarrassing their dogs. |

Why do folks just rant on here to owners who are responsible? Expose the ones who are doing the deed!....it does no good to complain here. The very small percentage of villagers who are on TOTV are most likely NOT the ones violating the walking and poop rules. Get pictures and post them here!!! The dog owners want it to stop just like the non owners want it to. |

Bentley knows he is not allowed in anyone's yard and cannot "stop and sniff" until we get to a common area. I always pick up his poop, and frequently other dog's as well. What I can not do, however, is wipe off Bentley's one droplet of pee pee he has to leave on every single bush (again, in the green area) that he passes.

Hmm. I mentioned in an earlier post about shooting videos or pics of the scofflaws and got drilled by some over it; I guess times have changed in 2 months.
Speaking of picking dog doo up, I walked my "girls" to the local mail station today (they never want to poop coming right out of the house, they have to get primed, I guess) and after they did their business, I picked theirs up along with 3 other piles that someone(s) left behind. People that don't pick up after their dogs are akin to the people that hit out of a sand trap on the course behind me and never rake it, or, at best, do a half-a** job. THOSE WITH DOGS - TEACH THEM BETTER THAN YOU WERE TAUGHT. |
I don't know why I click into these threads, I really don't. :)
But I kind of have to ask ... do others in the historic section have these problems? I can honestly say I've never in 4+ years had any dog poo on my lawn. My office is in the back of the house so I miss a lot of the street goings-on, but I've also never seen a dog being allowed to pee in my yard. There are owners walking their dogs at the Hilltop mail station (including a guy with a lovely Irish Setter who is perfection on a leash) but can't remember ever seeing piles o' poo there, either. |

Like kcrazorbackfan, who is cleaning up after other negligent dog owners. And leaving the mail station a cleaner place. Quote:

Many of us pick up litter, water bottles, etc., even cigarette butts on a golf course, to keep TV a beautiful community. I haven't seen a lot of the things that disappoint you and I've been here seven years (dogs walking on tables in restaurants??) |
The developer owns all the green space around the mail boxes. If he wanted to, he could have neighborhood watch patrolling these areas.

This "green area' situation is not new, in one form or another has been ongoing for over a year. It has been a thread more than once on this forum. People on TOTV are familiar with the topic- some might consider that it has been discussed 'ad nauseum'. Those who live in Tamarind Grove are (for the most part) familiar with the topic. I'd guess every dog owner that lives there is… unless they are brand new residents. The neighbors will school the newbies. Those who happened to read the posted notice at the mail station are aware…. as well as those who may have noticed an article on it in The Daily Sun…. or heard it discussed at the pool, which is adjacent to the area of the topic of discussion. I get the message that the Daily Sun is not your cup of tea. Was that the point you wanted to make clear? You succeeded. :BigApplause: |

Well, that isn't very realistic, and then -- !exactly what would the neighborhood watch do? Not very much, I'm afraid. |

I have walked my dogs in many areas of TV, including the area where the mailboxes are near Tamarind Grove. I have yet to see the situation that has people so upset at those mailboxes. Have I seen something that should have been picked up? On occasion, yes, but all the time, no, not on a regular basis. I think most dog owners ARE picking up after their pets, at least when I see them. I do it when I walk and all the people I know who have dogs are also responsible. I also don't see all the litter mentioned above. Maybe I just see the world through rose colored glasses or maybe I just see TV that way.

You're missing the point! If picking it up were the 100% solution, then you'd pick it up from your own house instead of teaching your dog to poop anywhere other than at home.

Welcome to THE VILLAGES. I wish you had checked before you moved here so that you wouldn't be so disappointed about the dog issue. I don't have a dog but I do love them and This is well into my eighth year living and owning here. During that time I have run into many, many, many dogs and their owners and most of them were doing just great following the rules. I would guess that at least a third, maybe more, Villagers own pets. And they are allowed to. I would also wager that more than 90 percent pick up after their animals. But....there isn't much anyone can do to change a selfish and inconsiderate human being who does not care enough to keep his/her surroundings clean. So try to focus on the positive and don't lose sight that this is one of the cleanest and safest places to live on this earth. |
