Dog Parks in TV
I am moving to TV in February with one small dog. How many dog parks are there in TV, and where are they? Do you have to pay to use them?
Thank you. |
There are three dog friendly leash-free parks in The Villages. These parks are fenced in play areas for both large and small dogs so the dogs can run freely and socialize with other dogs. These parks also have doggy amenities like water and waste stations and people amenities like benches and pleasant scenery. The Villages Dog Parks are:
•Paradise Park – east side of golf cart bridge •Mulberry- Belle Meade Circle adjacent to the fitness trail near the Village of Springdale •Brinson/Perry – 1231 Bonita Boulevard Hours: 7am – Dusk Dog Park users must be 13 years of age or older and must have their Villages Resident ID card or a valid guest ID card and a photo ID. Guest 13-18 years of age must be accompanied by a Village resident or guest 19 years of age or older. Further information is available at the entrance to the dog parks or call 674-1800. |
There is a brand new dog park which is going to be built at the southern end of The Villages, where Brownwood is located. Actually, it will be close to the new Publix shopping center on Route 44, but with internal access from TV.
Final plans are being worked out and hopefully, construction will be starting soon. When built, it will be the nicest dog park within TV. |
I am so excited about the new dog park !!! Where can we get information on the progress of this new park ???

Don't forget the Town Squares many nights looks like a dog park
Health reasons Please don't let your children or grandchildren touch the flowers or shrubery |

Don't let your dogs touch the shrubbery. someone's kids may have contaminated them!
|
Good Lord. I am a dog owner. I would not ever bring my pet to the squares. Never. Inconsiderate of the many pedestrians, and the shrubs etc which we love are not a doggie rest station. It's just neighborly nor responsible.
I've also seen some near mishaps on the sidewalks there with those long, retractable leashes. Common sense and common courtesy. |
O Boy 4 dog parks for 115k Plus residents. need to be about 10 more to really be pet friendly community! I see plenty of non profitable space around from residents that could be unitized for dog park areas! Then, the whinny would be more fruitful if not utilized. .:eclipsee_gold_cup:
IMO each district should have dog park.:eclipsee_gold_cup: I was going to sarcastic like the dog haters but didn't want to go there yet! |

Be careful of the children and dogs biting each other in the squares.
|
Amen......I am a dog owner and would never take her to the squares. Especially when the fresh markets are open. Dogs do not belong in the squares nor do they like being there. When your dog is taken to a square and he is hot, thirsty, hungry, tries not to be stepped on and tries not to have some trip over him or his leash, did he really ask his owner to take him to the square? And what happens when your dog has to go potty while he is in the square? Our dogs are fabulous and we love to show them off. Do it in your village where he has room to walk and be greeted by the neighbors and the neighbors dogs. As far as the new dog park, Atlas Dog Park, below 466 A. You should come to the meetings on the 1st Wednesday of every month. The meetings are held at Eisenhower Regional Rec. Ctr at 7 PM. We had one person who decided to get us a dog park below 466 A. A lot of us joined in and have worked extremely hard to get this dog park started. 3,000 signatures were needed to get the dog park on paper. Meetings with John Rohan, bake sales, great speakers at our meetings. In finding a place for the dog park we had to complete a certain criteria. Keep in mind when the dog park is completed, probably late spring, early summer 2015, volunteers will be needed. Dog owners will be expected to clean up after their dogs. If not, you will be reported. This is going to be a beautiful dog park and the members of the RDOG3 are very proud to be a part of this project.

I stand by what I said. I love my pet and I don't need to stroll around with him in heavily pedestrian places to fulfill any needs. I go to a dog park where my dog has a huge amount of play territory and I pay a fee for that - because I care about him. |
I am thrilled that we will have a dog park on the south end. I occasionally bring my dog to the square. She is usually in a stroller minding her own business.

She keeps us updated at the meeting regarding what is happening insofar as the dog park is concerned. Also, we always have an interesting speaker. Join us -- everyone is welcomed!. |

Oh, please! Kids touch far worse things than a random flower that some dog MAY have peed on. The probability of that is negligible. Let's not get paranoid about inconsequencial things. |
Hooray for the New Dog Park!

And for anyone reading these posts, Janet, the secretary for the group, has also worked diligently to make this park a reality. Thank you for giving better and more information than I gave! |

Inconsequential you say Some of the diseases that can be spread from pet waste are: Campylobacteriosis- a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea in humans. Salmonellosis- the most common bacterial infection transmitted to humans from animals. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea. Toxocarisis- roundworms transmitted from animals to humans. Symptoms include vision loss, rash, fever, or cough. |

Since you never see dog poop in the squares, and TV's dogs are extremely well "vetted" and cared-for, I believe this statement is faulty and inflammatory. |
This is silliness. There are lots of dogs and lots of dog owners in The Villages, but I would be greatly surprised if there was a single case of roundworm infestation here caused by exposure to dogs. In addition, salmonella and campylobacter are far more likely transmitted by food contamination or person-to-person contact than by exposure to canine waste.

Nobody knows what a dog wants or doesn't want better than its owner. So unless you see somebody doing something against the law or totally injurious to the dog, please don't tell us dog owners where we should or shouldn't be taking our dogs, or what they want or don't want.
One day at DDRR a young boy was playing with out golden in the "back 40." Now I know my golden. His best friend is whoever's holding the tennis ball. When the little boy left, my dog ran over to the gate to the "front 40." The woman I was with kept telling me my dog was concerned because I wasn't there. I said No, he's concerned because the little boy isn't there. He's looking for him, not me. She persisted. I called my dog; he turned around and looked at me. And went back to looking for the little boy. Dog owners know their dogs. |
