I bought some gas related stocks and as soon as I did the cude oil prices went down and so did the stocks. If something is too expensive all that needs to happen is for me to buy stock in it and it will go down.

Are the Texas and Louisiana refiners going to be able to make a profit on refining the cheaper crude? The cost for refining the tar sands from Canada is significantly higher than crude oil, too. The investors are pulling out of the Canadian tar sands fields. Keystone XL would not be profitable now and with all the fracking and horizontal drilling in the US, the Keystone XL is not needed.

Interesting to Google to see who was going to make the most money from the Keystone XL.

Glad to see the lower gasoline prices again. Hope the OPEC countries keep lowering their prices so we get the cheaper gasoline. Free enterprise works!

I was in the Chicago area last week, and gas was 10 cents cheaper there than here. It's usually 25 to 50 cents higher because of the taxes. Hard to explain.

It is $1.66 in Grand Haven Michigan. hope it stays low, heading back to V in three weeks.

have no idea where the OP lives in Illinois, but the gas up there where I'm originally from is ALWAYS 20 to 30 cents higher than here in Alabama. Gas here is still around $2.15/gal, and my sister in east central Ill. told me last week that it was already below 2 bucks up there. I don't understand this sudden difference.

There is a huge refinery up in Whiting, Indiana (near Chicago) which has not been working up to capacity for years. Maybe they got it fully operational again. It's the old supply and demand thing.

The gasoline prices are so low because the OPEC countries are lowering prices on their crude oil exports - in an effort to make it so cheap that the domestic oil from fracking and horizontal drilling will not be profitable and will go out of business.

This truly is free enterprise. Do you want that to happen to domestic oil?

No, only to Russian oil. Maybe driving Russia's economy down will teach Putin a lesson.

It wasn't all that long ago when Putin was being lauded as a strong leader and how our President could learn from him. Forget Georgia, Crimea, Ukraine, KGB backround......he was the man. What a difference a year makes.

Isn't this the principle of free enterprise that so, so many want? Or does it depend on the ownership of a gored ox?

Has anyone thought that the more successful the non gas (Oil) related technologies in replacing it the cheaper the prices get?

Oil prices are not directly related to supply/demand as the commodity market and futures have more effect on the prices than the S/D chart would suggest.

With oil prices just above $52 a barrel today, AAA is reporting that American consumers could save 75 billion dollars in 2015, if prices remain low.

I wonder what the consumer would do with that money?
My hope is to save the heck out of it for a rainy day that WILL certainly come.

The low gas prices will make the break even point for the expensive ecars much longer.
So, if the oil price stays low for a while, we can kiss the ecars goodbye.

The price of a barrel of crude oil dropped below $50 today for the first time since April 2009.

I hope people don't go back to gas guzzlers.

Will the suburbs, so far from work, regain their popularity? Will the price of these homes also go up? Does this also mean more roads or widening roads?

I heard on NPR a week or two ago that trucking companies are doing very well and investing in new trucks.

The airlines don't seem to be dropping their prices. Cruises are.

I expect a lot more people will be going on a vacation far from home this summer too. That's good news too for a lot of people and businesses.

Reducing transportation costs puts money in the pockets of most Americans. That's good too.

If "they" are smart, they will keep the current mpg quotas that car manufacturers are held to now.

I doubt there will be a rush to the suburbs (not trendy and too far of a commute on congested roads), but historically when gas prices go down, sales of gas guzzlers go up. It's already happening...

We have no refineries in FL and gas pipelines are not close. Fuel has to be trucked in.
