Coming soon...Private fitness club with indoor pool

Monday, Jan 5 Daily Sun, page C5 ... advertisement for "Too your Health Spa V" being built on 441 across from Oakwood BBQ. They are building a 60 ft indoor pool as part of their facilities. Quick google search shows they have 4 other facilities, closest being in Belleview. The ad mentioned some introductory membership pricing.

Not a Villages amenity but an alternative for those who need an indoor pool.

billethkid 01-06-2015 08:00 AM

If and or when one is approved and built within TV I suspect it will not be an amenity either.

It will most likely have to be fee based somehow, like the futness centers are today, to be approved.

jebartle 01-06-2015 08:36 AM

found some membership info

Good news. I lift my coffee cup to private business. Now all of the folks who swim every day can swim every day, even in cold weather. And those who are worried about skin cancer can swim in a covered pool. I think it is not a LOT percentage wise, but a need has been met and people will have an option to choose from.

Now we will hear from folks who don't agree and that is why I love this forum. Easy for me to say, I don't swim everyday.

Have to ask Gracie. Again, I'm not a villager yet, but will be this year (sometime). Are the facilities at the rec centers so bad? I'm still fairly young (mid 50's), but I lift weights all the time. I thought the rec centers had workout rooms. Do most villagers purchase outside exercise facilities?

There are regional rec centers with work out equipment. There is a charge to join. There are neighborhood rec centers with no work out rooms. All of the rec centers are in very good condition, very attractively and expensively decorated and well maintained.

If you want to hear it again, I could tell you all of the things that make you move around, cause your heart rate to increase and improve your muscle tone. Have you seen our electrical boxes and band stands?

LOL. Yeah, I've visited many a time when my mom lived there and still alive. Unfortunately, I'm a big bulky muscular guy, so my dance moves are not that flattering. I'll take part in it, but will still life. I'll bring most of my stuff with me. I just thought when I (am still am) doing my research, that the rec centers had fitness rooms (looks mostly cardio). Maybe I was looking at something else. Is there a Y near the villages?

YES THERE ARE. You will find them at Laurel Manor, Lake Miona, Colony Cottage and Seabreeze (Is Einsenhower a regional rec center?). Also adjacent to Brownwood and golfcart accessible is a huge, new, privately owned fitness center.

TVMayor 01-06-2015 09:12 AM

Just when TV is being pressured for a AC pool one magically appears. Does the family have a new franchise business?

The Villages - Lifestyle

Here is a picture of a regional rec fitness center.

And TV Mayor.....I doubt it. Someone has seen an opportunity. The American way.

Picture won't cut and paste
Throughout the community you’ll find Fitness Centers located in the several of our Regional Recreation Centers. Hit the treadmill or the weight training machines and stay in shape to the tune of your own music or watch the TV’s that line the walls. Our Fitness Centers are just a golf car ride away, and allow you to enjoy physical workouts even closer to home.

The rec center fitness facilities are pretty much what you would find in a hotel: small area, minimal weights - only one bench if I recall correctly - very basic; no adjacent bathroom, shower or adequately sized lockers. One must use the pool's shower room and lockers if you want to wash up. At the two I used the workout rooms were on the other side of the rec center from the pool shower rooms. Last time I was in TV it cost me $8 each time I went versus $15/month for 24 hour Fitness where I now reside.

Too, due to demand, if people were waiting to use cardio machines sign up sheets were on the wall. There was a 20 minute time limit on the cardio machines!

The Villages needs some adequate fitness centers!

I have to agree. When we first moved here we went to the fitness centers. I found the machines adequate, and I didn't mind the lack of shower and locker room facilities, but the time limit of 20 minutes on the aerobic equipment was a deal breaker. We are used to doing about and hour of aerobics, so 20 minutes wasn't going to work for us. For those who don't mind that, and don't mind the crowds in the high season, the regional centers are probably fine. I found that fitness centers off-campus are much cheaper, and not as busy at the times I like to go.

justjim 01-06-2015 10:42 AM

True the Regional fitness centers are very busy in the mornings. "Adjust and adapt" to an afternoon schedule and you will find plenty of available equipment for the average person. If you plan to be a body builder---then no these regional centers are not for you.

Good to hear there will be alternatives for those that have a need for an indoor pool.

Kitty- you may be thinking of another restaurant. Oakwood is located on 441/27 between 466 and 466A. (Certainly not 20 minutes southeast of 466a.) I can get there from Sanibel in less than 15 minutes.

There are two of them. One is technically called Lady Lake and the other is Leesburg. One is very close to the Walmart near 466A and 27/441.

The one that I am thinking of is less than five miles from our house and we live just off 466 just down from the sheriff's office and the county office on 466.

Just south of Lady Lake on 441 on the right side of the road. Best ribs in the area!!!

gratefulparrot 01-06-2015 11:38 AM

Are any of the off campuses fitness centers still accessible via golf cart, or will I have to take the Jeep?

sunnyatlast 01-06-2015 11:38 AM

Looked for more info and saw these Lady Lake Town Commission meeting notes from 2013, in which this athletic facility was discussed. Not sure if this is the same plot of land as the one announced today, but….

It's very interesting to read and learn about all that goes into such a building project, in terms of zoning, traffic impact, building aesthetic impact and standards/restrictions, and even the 4 rotting or bug-infested and dying "historic" oak trees that got complete health analysis by aborists for presentation to the town board.

Now you have to pay attention on these threads 'cause we move fast. This statement is copied from one above....

They also have weekly, monthly and quarterly rates. I did the monthly rates for a couple of months - only $40 for 7 days a week. The one at Mulberry has 10-15 weight machines, plus free weights plus 6 or 7 running machines.

True - no lockers and no showers but since I am only 3 miles from there I could go home and shower.

the complaints about gyms are pretty much the same result as the complaints about tee times : inflexibility",; especially apparent this time of year.

CFrance - you should make a resolution to try some, unless you have a dietary or other restriction. It really is very good.

Happy New Year!

I recently joined the MVP club in Spanish Springs and at first their price seems high all the free classes that are included makes it in my opinion the best bang for your buck

Carl Bell District #1 Vice Chair of the Amenity Authority Committee had the enclosed pool as his number one issue on this campaign to do list. He is the one who presented it to the AAC. Are you saying Carl Bell lives in TV one week a month? I am guessing this is not the case.

billethkid 01-06-2015 04:07 PM

Sounds like something a politician would do!
Does anybody know why he is pushing the Santiago (I think) pool as THE site?

I will repeat what I have said all along......they can do and build and operate anything their heart desires as long as it has zero impact on residents amenity financials. It must stand on it's own financially supported by the users!

Hi Mayor: My guess is that this is an AAC issue because a number of the residents on the north side took a big burn when the Developer pulled the plug on the Wellness Center and moved it to the SS sales office. they petition to have the indoor pool stay active but lost out. Beware of a scorned indoor swimmer. BTK is spot on as respects its funding build and maintain with membership funding/fees.

How did the Savannah Center meeting regarding this proposal end? anyone

Debelg: I am a member and primarily use the SS club. Those of us who moved from The Villages Wellness Center to MVP can attest to the fact that MVP rates are a huge bargain compared to the Wellness Center .

In addition the staff at MVP are the best. Good human beings, good trainers, good support/admin staff cheery upbeat...Welcome
