driving ranges in the villages

I have been saying this for awhile as a great many others have been saying, but today was just incredible having lived in the villages for 5 years now I have seen this coming. Today sunday the 18th of January I was blown away...I thought I would go over to the Sarasota range and hit a bucket to practice and when I got there ...omg I have never seen it like that before there must have been at least 5 people deep waiting at every hitting station that they have...the golf administration people need to take a good look at this...it they continue to build at the current rate you will have to make a reservation to hit balls....tv needs another driving range and maybe they should think about the kind they have in japan with 3 and 4 decks....

check out the range behind wal-mart on 466....it's in nice shape and you actually hit off grass

Bogie Shooter 01-18-2015 03:44 PM

There are ranges at Lopez, Glenview and. Palmer.

I was at Sarasota at 1 pm today Jan 18 and there were 3-5 people total including me waiting for a spot. I only had to wait about 5-10 minutes. I go there a lot and have never seen the numbers you claim, (5 deep at every hitting station). A little exageration for effect? Besides the range behind the Walmart on 466 there is also a range on 301 just south of 466.

Pratice??? It is way overrated!

at Sarasota you hit off mats...otherwise it's off grass unless something else is being done.

Most of you need to hit off mats all the time....:boxing2:

bagboy 01-19-2015 11:10 AM

Monday and Wednesday off mats at Sarasota, others days hit off grass. Check with them as they may have adjusted their schedule.

Seems tv doesn't do a very good job of informing residents and visitors as to the location and other details regarding ranges. Is there some definitive source for this I'm missing?

I tend to agree with you. I was here quite a while before I found the following page. And even it provides minimal information:

NOTE: If this link doesn't work (for me, it's sending me back to ToTV), just type it into your browser. :)

We like the driving range run by the Lions on Rolling Acres. The $5.00 goes to charity.

"Seems tv doesn't do a very good job of informing residents and visitors as to the location and other details regarding ranges. Is there some definitive source for this I'm missing?"

The above statement is simply wrong. The four practice facilities located within The Villages are clearly identified on the golf courses map that appears on The Villages web site. This same map also appears on page 24 of the The Villages 2015 Phone Book. There is no attempt to conceal the locations. At least make an attempt to obtain the information before bashing The Villages.

Is there something you're missing? Yup...

just do a wee bit of research and you'll find them all. Took me all of about 2 minutes using the computer...amazing the technology today that many do not utilize except for playing games and post on forums...:ohdear:

driving ranges in the villages

Whoa...you folks are being pretty harsh. Nobody uses tech more than I do, and I remember feeling a bit like tim&donna when I first looked for this info. No matter how many places the info might be, it doesn't jump out at you when you go to golfthevillages.com. It's buried a bit deep IMHO, so I give the them a break please.

Maybe got the response the way the post was written.................

The Villages needs another practice facility. It needs to be south of 466A. I agree with the original poster. Way too busy at Sarasota! The developers look at a new facility as taking away space for homes.
As a matter of fact facilities have not kept up with growth---look at Colony---almost dangerous now in finding a parking spot.

Practice?? You talking about PRACTICE??

Boilerman 04-05-2015 11:21 AM

Sorry if this is a silly question: I am a beginner still and when I play at the couple of courses in my area (in Colorado), I always warm up hitting a bucket of balls and putting for a few minutes on the practice greens. During our lifestyle visit last year, I played at one of the executive courses without a driving range. Do more experienced golfers not feel the need to warm up before playing?

None of the executive courses have their own driving range. Most of the championship courses also do not, although they usually have a cage that allows you to hit some balls into a net to warm up. Most of the executive courses have practice green to practice putting and some allow chip shots as well.

If you feel the need to warm up before playing an executive course, you are free to use the championship courses that have a range or use the cages if they don't.

And it's not a silly question. In the words of Dr. Sheldon Cooper, "How else will you learn?" :D
