Other communities with courtyard villas
 

We spent a month in a courtyard villa in The Villages with our two dogs and it was so convenient to just let them out the door to do their thing. And the fencing on all sides was perfect for privacy.
My question is does anyone know of other communities in Florida and the Carolinas that have courtyard villas? I've been looking and I can't find any.

You don't like it in The Villages?

I love The Villages. My husband, not so much. That's why we at least want to visit other places.

I would guess most retirement areas have something like the court yard villa, they maynot call them the same.

What was it that your husband didn't like?

Some retirement communities allow fences.

He didn't like the heat in the summer, the cookie-cutter aspect of the homes, the old people. (He's 68)

I think it is a pretty safe bet that he will run into "old" people at the other retirement communities you may look at.

Perhaps there is something nice down in Orlando near UCF campus.

Yes, Florida gets hot! What does he consider...old? I love the folks in the villages. Don't really see age...it is the most fun place ever!

I'm 48 and might possibly think of your husband as old but I would never hold that against him. Many of our neighbors on our street are in their middle to late sixties and that hasn't kept me from buying a house here. My wife (5 years younger than myself) and I both get along just fine with all of them and we don't have problems with our age differences. I'm afraid you all are missing out on a great place to live over such trivial matters.

I agree with everyone's comments. I'm just asking if anyone knows of other communities with courtyard villas, whether 55+ or not.

No, but many communities have fences.

What area did you stay in? The southern-half sections are bought or are being bought by people right at age 55 and even before that age, and in the northern half, many are being bought by younger people when original owners who bought 20+ years ago have passed on.

I'd look for a neighborhood's majority age group, not because of dislike of "old people"(I love them because they're not out to prove anything), but because of the neighborhood's likelihood of having active and organized socials, outings, meet and greet patio/driveway parties, etc.

I've met quite a few couples who said they bought in a "sleeper cell" without knowing other neighborhoods aren't like that as they've now learned. Villagers are said to move on average 3 times within TV, and the above is one of the many reasons. (Ease of reselling one's current place fast is a biggie.)

TV has extreme diversity--a good thing, I think.

Don't take it personally. Many folks on this board choose to ignore the actual question and take it as a personal insult if somebody doesn't care for TV. It's not for everybody.

If you are partial to Florida, but don't like the heat then stick to the coastal areas. Both coasts have an onshore breeze, the Atlantic side will be cooler than the gulf, but even the gulf doesn't get into the 90's until August.

True. We also just moved out of the Villages but nothing to do with age. In fact the average age here and in the Villages I believe is 68. My husband also didn't like it here, but we moved out for various reasons. We live in the Plantation now and there are no villas either. I think if I had a pet, I'd prefer the Courtyard Villas also. Although I've never had one I have been in a few and thought they were very nice.

Last summer was supposed to be the hottest, in a few years, we came down from PA, and survived, and I even worked I the garage over the summer. PS I swore I would never retire in FL!!!! I have witnesses. However, my wife and I found a place t LOVE, and we are FROGS. We love TV. Hope you hubby changes his mind this is really a wonderful place, filled with wonderful people.

Most people here act young for their chronological age. They are always out & about walking, playing golf, swimming, playing pickle ball, bocce, shuffleboard or headed to clubs & activities that stimulate our brains. I really notice the difference when I go away for a week & then return to see people actually doing stuff. And it is so beautiful.

You might like Cypress Cove in Kissimmee. It may be just what your husband is looking for. They have a unique way of handling the heat.

I know of a 30" high vinyl coated chain link fence about 10' x 10' behind a house . . . that could be the one. Might be allowed for a medical reason.

I agree. Also the post about coastal living is true. Central Florida where the Village is tends to get the temperature extremes. Living on the coast, the temperatures are moderated by the ocean. Naples is a nice area with many different retirement communities. It doesn't' get so cold there in the winter, nor as hot in the summer.You might want to check it out. Good luck.

Having previously lived on both FL coasts - Ft Lauderdale & Tampa - I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

I have a home on the east coast in Melbourne and one here in The Villages. We go back and forth every week. It usually is about 5 degrees or more cooler in the winter in the The Villages and up to 5 degrees hotter in the summer. On those really cold days we leave Melbourne with a sweater on and need to put on a jacket or coat when we arrive here. Right now my phone says it is 66 degrees in The Villages and 70 degrees in Melbourne.
