talk of the villages website too slow

too many ads, etc slow down this website making it somewhat annoying to use, don't get me wrong, its useful but hard to have to wait so long for it to display the screens you want......my device is on a 10 mb line.

gerryann 01-25-2015 09:05 PM

I believe this would be an issue with your device or browser, not TOTV web site.

:agree: OP has probably picked up some malicious malware.

Topspinmo 01-25-2015 10:01 PM

slow for me too sometimes. I think it the recurring video add.:yuck: I notice when I stops repeating itself the site speeds up. But, I'm no Geek squad and don't know how to tell what's doing it?:undecided:

tomwed 01-25-2015 10:13 PM

no problem for me
Do you know anyone with a laptop that can come over and be on your network and see if they have the same problems?
You are trying to find out if your network is slow or your laptop is slow.
Let me know and I will try to help you.

vinricci 01-25-2015 10:14 PM

I have 40 download speed and reading new posts or classifieds takes exceptionally long.

JoMar 01-25-2015 11:27 PM

Brighthouse now has 100+MB, no issues here. Your computer processor could also be slowing you down, just because it comes in at 10MB doesn't mean everything inside your computer can handle it.

jimmemac 01-25-2015 11:47 PM

There is no site that I go to that is as slow as this one-NONE. it is not the computer or the operating system it is the site-sorry.

Hmmm. I never notice ToTV being slow. We have a reasonable internet connection speed...25 Mbps download...but not business class. It even runs well on my iDevices. And I do visit some slow sites on occasion. Not sure what the problem might be.

Knowing it's not your computer or OS does not leave the site as the only possible issue. Could it be the speed or possibly another problem with your connection?

Bonanza 01-26-2015 04:33 AM

I find TOTV very slow, also. And why do we have to wait 30 seconds when changing topics? Very often, after reading or making a post, when I want to go back and pick up the new posts where I left off, I have to sign in again. This can happen to me a dozen or so times when reading a day's threads.

Another annoying thing is when I go to enter a post I've made, I often get this message: "You do not have permission to perform this action. Please refresh the page and login before trying again."

Very frustrating!

Hmmm. Might want to check some settings. I never have to log in as long as I keep the appropriate box checked.

Speeds at home are just OK - not good but tolerable. I'm in hotels most of this month, including now and the speeds are awful.

spring_chicken 01-26-2015 07:47 AM

If you're using Chrome, do you have AdBlock enabled?

gerryann 01-26-2015 11:46 AM

It's not TOTV. It's how you are accessing it and the device you are using. When I use Lap top....no problem at all. When I use I Pad, I have to use Chrome. If I use Internet explorer, it's all over the place and unable to navigate.

I will admit that TOTV is the only web site where these issues are present.

Actually it is a bit of all of the above.

This site is saturated with ads and banners that load and change constantly. All of them are rich in "flash" content language. That adds up to a site that demands a LOT of your computer, your chosen ISP and internet provider.

Bonny 01-26-2015 12:26 PM

No problems here.

Precisely. I access many other forums daily with users from around the world. I have never seen this much flash content or junk advertising, and the stupid videos keep crashing. TOTV is a very small business, and I guess that the owners have to sell lots of advertising to make a go at it.

blueskys4me 01-28-2015 01:44 PM

.Thanks for everyone's input. There are so many variables involved as you all stated, device CPU speed, modem speed, server speed, software of your device, and how many folks are using the Internet at that time. From some of the input, it appears I'm not the only one to notice this. I did try a different browser (Dolphin) and the speed is acceptable so who knows, maybe something else changed too but regardless of what happened out there in the world of the Internet, it doesn't appear to be a problem for this user. Hope the others who were seeing slow response times can get it resolved.

John_W 01-28-2015 02:55 PM

Here's a screen and browser shot I just took a few minutes ago. As you can see, I have no ads anywhere on my view. What you see here is all that I see on my HP 17" laptop. Also, I can never remember a pop-up from TOTV or just about any other site unless I want it. I've been using Firefox since about 2005. I don't even have to click on a link or page. I use a Firefox add-on called Cool Preview. You just roll your mouse over a link and a small blue dot will appear, put the cursor over the dot and the link will open in a smaller window and will disappear when you move the cursor. That allows you to see and close a link in just a couple of seconds.

I had posted a solution for Internet Explorer users, but it was taken down <"poof - gone."> I was just tryin' to help. No explanation was offered as to why it was taken down.

Might be because your "fix" wipes out the ads. Without advertising, this forum goes away. Forums of this type are quite expensive to run and maintain.

I use Chrome on my laptop and do not have a problem with extremely slow speeds to the point that I would even consider it irritating. It does not load as fast as the days when the ads were less sophisticated. But, that is what it is. Many sites are this way.

Those trying to use Apple stuff, you are on your own, although I understand Admin does have developers trying to repair the inadequacies of Apple's latest operating system.

Web design used to be fun. These days, with the emergence of so many browsers (many of which are functionally inferior) it is a pain to keep up with all of the tweaking and twerking.

Interestingly enough, Apples "inferior" OS only has problems with the TOTV website....

More interesting is that other OSs (Chrome, FireFox etc) have NO problem with TOTV. :Screen_of_Death:

Interesting also that over 100,000 forum sites worldwide are all struggling to make the Apple operating system work as well as it did prior to the upgrade.

Not on that screen, John. It is when I open one of the threads.
