Found a Fantastic Hairdresser at last!!!

After three years in The Villages, I have found the BEST hairdresser! If you are looking for a new one -- or if you just want to try a new one --- Erica Miller at Urban Hair on 466 is the best! She works independently so call her direct number --352-457-5892. She gave me the best cut/color I have had since moving here three years ago.

Now THIS is good info! Thanks for posting!

Sable99 01-31-2015 08:37 PM

I'll add this to my growing list for when I finally get to my home in TV!

What does she charge for a cut/color? I was given a voucher for a haircut at Urban Hair on 466. The voucher was for $42. I understand that a haircut there is $42. I wasn't able to use the voucher and gave it to a friend who JUST used it last week. I'm curious what you pay for a cut and color. Thank you.

nancymenn 02-01-2015 06:34 AM

Anxious to hear her charges, too. I have been here only 1 year and gone through 3 hairdressers and still cannot get a good cut. I get no coloring, just a cut. And I have a simple hair style. Still looking....!

Marlo 02-01-2015 07:20 AM

I've gone through so many hairdressers also from Cal's to more expensive and each time I've had to go back to have corrections. I'm not that picky but for some reason they can't get the sides the same length AND they leave a hunk uncut in the back behind the ear on one side and not the other. SO happy to hear there might be a good one here that's hopefully not so expensive also. I've found that it doesn't matter what you pay for a cut down here the hairdressers still aren't that good. I have a simple cut also & I'm going to try her. Thank you

Ummmm yep! 12 years and still looking. The clincher may be to find one that is both good and reasonable. Plus I also color mine and to find one that uses the product I prefer is also difficult! I like the girl I go to know but their prices just jumped up big time, went from $68 for a cut color and blow-dry to $85 so not just a couple of dollars. Sorry this is not the Chicago or Orlando area I think they all really think all The Villagers are rich.... just my thoughts. I just at this stage of my life do not want to pay those prices anymore. :( and NO not giving up coloring my hair. I have some friends back home in the business and may just have them ship me the color product and go back to doing it myself and looking for a good cut. Oh to OP thanks for the info have a feeling they're pricey but may just call. :)

Bada15 02-02-2015 02:42 PM

What does she charge for a wash cut and blow dry? I just moved here and am stunned by the prices. Do you know of a nail salon?

I've tried many nail salons best I've found is Angelas Nails it's immaculate and they all do a great job and reasonable. Quan has been doing mine for a couple of years now. 11962 County Road 101, The Villages, FL 352-350-2932 I believe it's Palm Court Plaza near Little Bits.

annaconner 02-02-2015 04:09 PM

I too took a long time to find a good cutter. Each time I go home I am desperate to come back for that reason! Janine at Buffalo Barber Palm Ridge Plaza. She doesn't speak much but makes a good job. Have been complimented several times. 205 7693

Barefoot 02-04-2015 12:15 PM

I've found the hair stylists competent and reasonably priced,
both at Urban Hair in Oxford, and also at Victoria Hair, in the Sante Fe Plaza.

Has anyone used the hair stylist Renee at Victoria Hair?
Not the old Renee, she has moved on.
The new Renee has been at Victoria Hair about a month.

graciegirl 02-04-2015 01:01 PM

What IS a good hair cutter/stylist/etc.???????

How does one know WHO is good?

Do they cut your hair the way you have always loved it, or do they give you the latest most up to date cut and color?

Do they do it with scissors or a razor or a tree trimmer?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I go to Josh at Salon Jaylee who moved himself from 466 close to me to up by Target, not so close. I go and pay him 47 bucks for a cut and style and go back in six weeks and do it again. Sweetie thinks I am drop dead gorgeous, but I think he is just used to loving me and has kind eyes. I look pretty much like a wrinkled 75 year old with white hair going in...and coming out.

If you walk out of the Salon with a smile on your face, that's a good hair cut!

jessicarabitt 02-04-2015 02:20 PM

How much was it for a wash and trim? Short hair?

You make an excellent point, Gracie. Some stylists are absolute experts with razor cuts, and some are fabulous with blunt cuts. Some can do a blow out like nobody's business, and some excel at cutting curly hair. Some stylists do fantastic color and so-so haircuts, or vice versa.

I think that is why it takes so many of us so long to find the perfect hairdresser for us and why that same hairdresser may be the worst for someone else. Once found, however, tip well, along with a little extra at the holidays, and never be late for or blow off an appointment.

gerryh1943 02-04-2015 07:26 PM

I go to Urban Hair Studio for about 2yrs. I have a girl name Candy she is really great for all kind of hair mine is thin hair for cut wash blow dry it is 42.00. Use Cals two different ones and had to pay the price, but a lot happier with my hair

Dawn Williams 02-04-2015 08:37 PM

I worked in one of the salons there - some great folks in there, just a bit overwhelmed. Having said that...I am now :::sigh:::: an "outsider" but still looking for my all time favorite stylist, Jutta. She worked at several inside and then ventured to one that has since closed (Village Spa and Salon on 441). There I lost her. Anyone know if she's still around and, if so...where??? Thanks in advance :)

ditka41 02-04-2015 09:49 PM

I have appreciated how RENEE at Cal's in Brownwood cuts my hair. Quick and reasonable in my opinion. (750-5334) --- And she also cuts /colors my wife's hair with great results. She's always nice and very professional! Best we have found at The Villages!
We were happy when Cal's opened in Brownwood for the convenience and atmosphere.

Barefoot 02-08-2015 01:39 AM

I like the stylists at Urban Hair in Oxford, a talented group.
I also like the stylists at Victoria Hair in the Sante Fe Plaza East of Morse.
My regular stylist at Urban hair was very busy, so I took a chance and used "new Renee" at V. Hair.
Renee did a good job on my cut and highlights.
I think the prices at V. Hair are a bit less than at Urban Hair; both places are reasonable.

gingersnap 03-09-2015 10:54 PM

I've tried several stylists in the past 2 years. Just last week I tried Renee at Cal's in Brownwood. She did a fantastic job cutting my short hair. $28 for a cut, shampoo and style.

HimandMe 03-11-2015 03:05 PM

I pay $80 hi lites, cut and blow dry and she is fabulous...am I going to find anything like this when I get back to The Villages?

cwnavy1 03-22-2015 12:41 PM

I always have mine cut and colored, and it is $90 -- so I'm not sure what it would be just for a cut.

I just called Urban Hair this past week to find out how much it was to get my hair colored and it was around 100.00. Also asked how mich for a cut,.my hair is short, and it was 45. That is too much for me. I feel taken advantage of.

Happinow 03-22-2015 02:23 PM

I also found a hair stylist I like. I went to Cal's at Brownwood and Christina cut my hair. I have been so frustrated over the past three years of living here not to be able to find a stylist that did my hair the way I like. I brought in a picture to show her so there would be no mistake about how I wanted it. Christina did just what I wanted her to do and kept asking me how,the style and length was as she styled and cut. I feel very happy that I finally found someone I like. By the way, the new Brownwood salon is very nice. They have a side for the men's hair and a side for the women's hair cuts. It makes it comfortable. It has a salon atmosphere instead of a barber shop atmosphere. My cut and style was 28+tip.

I've had excellent stylists at Root 466 (now Salon Jaylee), and at the Colony location of Salon Jaylee. For several years I watched closely all the other stylists around the one I had at the time (they come and go or move to another location within the group, or leave completely). Always saw excellent work being done and I had excellent work done.

HOWEVER….the prices are far too high for the more experienced stylists, and I got tired of the constant pushing of expensive products after they got rid of Redken, Pureology and other known lines. The salon's own brand is pretty good, but not that great considering the prices.

I wonder if there is a booth-rental type salon around here, where stylists who've left the bigger salons now work on their own. They, too, get tired of pushing expensive products and not getting a large enough portion of the charges they bring in for hair styling.

I don't like leaving the salon feeling like "I've been HAD!". I am sure there are many other former clients who feel that way too.

Happy Snowbird 03-22-2015 04:33 PM

I just get a cut and like Lisa at Cals at Colony. $15 + tip!

I have been getting my hair cut and colored at Urban Hair for the last three years, and it costs $77. Don't know what you mean by "around $100." Unless you were adding highlighting in with the cut and color?

They do good work and are comparable in price to my old place up north.

Actually, I get my hair highlighted using a cap. Maybe that's why it was more. I'm used to paying 60, so 100.00 is way out of my comfort zone. It was also up towards that price at Cals and I told my stylist it was way too much to pay and she said we probably pay more for services because it's The Villages. So, we are being taken advantage of.

CFrance 03-22-2015 09:29 PM

Using a cap is actually less expensive than doing foils. But $100 is not unreasonable for cut, color, and highlighting. I've paid more than that in two places up north, and around that in four cities in FL. I don't think we're being taken advantage of in most places here. Just at the one place where they charge you extra for every product they use, including conditioner. I run from those places.

In home hairstylist?

I will be moving permanently to TV in the next two weeks. I am certain I will be reviewing this thread again as soon as I need to have my hair cut and colored! My main concern is trying to find a stylist that could come to my home to cut my mom's hair who is 87. She has difficulty getting around and our outside travels are usually reserved for the doctor or a drive. Someone did provide a name to me a number of months ago but there was very mixed feelings about the stylist. Any help would be appreciated.

skyc6 06-15-2015 12:23 PM

Try Salon Chioma. Wonderful stylists and good prices.

rosygail 06-15-2015 02:02 PM

SHe just did a curly perm for me and it's the best Since I moved down here! Really nice lady too!

Floridagal 06-15-2015 02:46 PM

I finally found someone I like and just as good as the girl I used up north. I use Lisa at Cal's in Colony.

I would pay ANY price to get a good haircut. The back is always longer than the top and one side longer than the other. Very frustrating at any price. The training is almost non existant. If they checked the haircut, they would find their own mistakes. And, for the most part, they have bad attitudes.
