moving companies any suggestions
we will be moving from Georgia. Any suggestions on a good moving company?

Re: moving companies any suggestions
The Villages relocation folks (Karen Madsen is one) put us in contact with a couple of movers and supposedly it will be at a discount. It was Atlas and Mayflower.
Their queries to me were very timely and courteous, but I can't comment on the move as we've not moved yet. However, I do plan to get a quote in due time, just to compare. We're also going to look at Uhaul/Penske/PODS etc and hire a couple of guys on each end. Good luck, let us know how you fare. |
Moving from Village to Village
Any suggestions on moving the furniture within The Villages??
Has anyone used Village Movers?? |
We used Village Movers in 2004. Then, they were very inexpensive and reliable. And, we only had them move 2 or 3 pieces of furniture.
Also in the move from WIS we used a POD. Worked well for us but probably not for everybody. |

Hello,
In 2006 we moved down from Indiana. We rented 2 Penske trucks for $900.00each truck. We had family help us on one end. When we got down to TV, we called Brandon Duran Moving Service 352-804-8720 from Ocala. VERY HAPPY with them. Not sure if they are still in business. Good luck with your move. |
We found an ad in the daily paper for, I think it was, Two Brothers. They moved some furniture into our home. We will hire them again.

We did call Village Movers to move from Lynnhaven to Hadley..They were very careful, and did not waste time..They were in and out and did a great job!
I would certainly recommend them to any one looking for a reliable company..I look forward to the day we move from PIA Pa., to TV.. |
Village's Relocation put us in touch with two movers and their estimates were very high. We went with Bekins instead and saved over $1,000. Benkins also included "free" housecleaning for our old house which turned out to be a big benefit.

Try ABF if you do some of the work. Moved from Michigan about $1600.Pay by how much of the trailer you use. I have more info if you like.

I, too, am moving in late October from Boytnon Beach. An in-state move. Called relocation services but when they discovered we did not list our current property we are selling with their "people" they weren't enthusiastic or much help. They recommended United and Atlas I know many folks have moved to the Villages from south Florida.....any recommendations???
|
i moved from Ft. Lauderdale to TV and used Mayflower. They were excellent, cheaper than Atlas and United, very careful with furniture and accessories, AND they arrived at my front door in TV exactly when they said they would. I highly recommend Mayflower from South Florida.

Any concerns about bed bugs?
We will be moving from village to village in about a month and the bed bug scare has me petrified that the movers could have bed bugs in their trailers, blankets, etc. Not sure what to do.

We used United Van Lines and NEVER NEVER again. They damaged our stuff and lost some items. They don't seem to be in a hurry to locate the missing pieces and boxes. One of my neighbors used United also and said to STAY AWAY from United. They also lost itmes. United Van Lines was our nightmare of coming to the Villages. EVERYTHING else is great. Come and enjoy the good like..... rodgers13743:welcome:

Why moving from Boynton Beach?
[/B] I am moving to the Villages in November, but am curious as to why you are moving away from Boynton Beach. I had considered moving there and am curious. Thanks.

We were given Allied & United by the relocation office of The Villages. Both came to our home in MASS and gave estimates for our move. United was twice the amount of Allied. We were going to go with Allied but they could only estimate time of arrival in FL as between 3-12 days. We would not have owned the house until day 8 so we had to rethink our move. We hired a trailer from ABF ( you pay by linear ft used) and relatives and friends helped us load it. We had a guaranteed delivery day and time, arrived on time and then we hired high school kids on this end to unload. They were great. Call Troy at 352-874-8958. We heard about him on TOTV. Hard-working, careful and respectful teenagers and FAST! Just moved in last Fri.

our moving decisions
We investigated and spoke with numerous companies since all the planning began a few months ago. PODS were very expensive for Denver to TV. Many other companies are using PODS type containers. Then we thought we'd rent a 16 ft and haul our truck, come to find out that the trailer won't be able to hold our truck. We finally settled on renting space on a large moving truck, a company called Movex. For the same price of a 16 ft Penske truck and trailer, we'll get 10 linear feet (we downsized considerably but they say this is what is needed for a 2br home). They have 5-9 days to arrive, we can drive more relaxed and the only additional money is the professional movers we hired at $45/h for 2 movers, min of 2 hours and we have 6 hours to get the truck loaded, and our hotel rooms. I called the movers TV recommended and they were extremely expensive, more than the PODS! Absolutely no discount there which was disappointing on TVs part. Good luck!

Hi Les
Thanks for the info. I had received a mailing from Superior (I guess they track MLS as I put my house up and three days later got several ads from movers). I called Superior just to get some preliminary info and was not impressed with what they told me on the phone. I said I have about 100 btls of wine and asked if they have packing boxes designed for shipping wine. The girl on the phone said I should go toa liquor store and get empty boxes as she was not aware of any special packing for wine. Guess what you can get all the specially designed shipping boxes you want from U-haul.. The fact that Superior didn't know that scared me right off. I did get a recommendation from TOTV for Dixie Movers here in Palm Beach county. Haven't called yet...will have to start making arrangements with a mover in next week or two. |
Moving Cost Calculator
We are planning a move from Michigan and are also trying to decide on PODS, moving company or other means. The website at http://www.relocation.com/library/mo...alculator.html is a calculator that lets you estimate costs. :024: As far as reliability, I suspect that on any given day any given company will turn out to be good:o, bad:swear: or indifferent:confused: and this seems to be born out by most of the reviews on TOTV and other places.

This pretty much a duplicate of something I posted a year ago... but the info is still correct.
When we moved here just over a year ago we used the Village Relocation guy. Per their instructions we also contacted a local mover where we were living (Miami). Their quote was about $800 cheaper (though we didn't really care for them). My wife called up the Village recommended mover (Suddath) and asked why they charged so much more. They said something about seasonal rates... and immediately matched the Miami guy's price and threw in several wardrobe boxes. So... negotiate! As for the mover... the arrived on time and loaded up fine. Delivery was just as scheduled. Unloading would have been better if when they stacked the boxes in the house they left the labels showing instead of mostly facing the walls. Nothing broken, nothing lost, and an ok price. |
DO NOT EVER USE ATLANTIC RELOCATION SEVICES!!!
They are a Florida subsidiary of Atlas. We used them for the move from VA and are still finding damaged items, and that is just the end of the story. The whole story would take hours to tell. |
Moving
We also used ABF. At first it sounds like more of a hassle because they only deliver an empty truck to your departure location, then pick it up and deliver it to your destination. In our case we had to have it stored for a couple of months while we found a house. As far as loading and unloading we used a local reliable mover to load it, costs about s$600 to $700. Then once we got to the Villages we used Neland Relocation Services,352-483-3000. They unloaded two ABF trucks in 3/4 of a day at a cost of around $450. Very careful and I would recommend them. Cost wise this is a much better alternative to the big moving companies. The only inconveniences are hiring movers at both locations and estimating the number of ABF Trucks you will need. If you are moving into a designer home or bigger get two trucks. A good mover can help estimate the number of trucks. You only pay for the space in the truck that you use. Good Luck

I used Allied and was very happy, competitive price and reliable.

Not to confuse The Villages Moving Co. with Villages movers. the former is said to be constrained by court order from continuing to advertise as such. Village Movers is fantastic.

old thread
...this started in 2008. Some of the information on it may not be correct since it was started so long ago.

We will be moving from MA to Fernandina in early July. We intend to bring a dining room set as well as a couch and coffee and end tables. The rest of the items will be kitchen and boxes of books, photos, etc. Any advice? Professional movers, rental trucks? We are looking for the most economical method and are will to drive it down ourselves.
Thanks advice would be most welcomed! |
Three years ago today My wife and I moved here and the moving company (Superior) was a nightmare I'll never forget.
|
We used a PODS to move from WV here. Service was great and on time. POD was clean and basically brand new. Loaded it myself over a 5 day period and unloaded it into the garage in about 3 or 4 hours. Listen to what your driver tells you about how to load and secure your belongings. Remember, you want everything to be tight so that nothing moves around enroute. I tied off each section (there are tie points on the walls). Nothing broken or damaged.
Would use PODS again except I don't plan on moving again! |

I will be using Allied next month. THeir estimate from Orlando to TV was reasonable and I have heard good things about them.

Beware The Villages Moving Service
This company is located in Ocala and damaged three pieces of furniture during our 2 mile move within the Villages. We paid the bill and the movers left before we realized they did NOT leave a receipt. When we called to report the damage, we were told to get an estimate and submit the claim. Once we did that, we were told we had to weigh the pieces and we would be paid 60 cents per pound. One of the pieces is massive and was damaged because the kids they sent to move us could not handle it. We asked how we supposed to get the weight and were told to weigh a truck, load the piece and reweigh the item. What a croc!! We are now out $600 for repairs plus the move was $300 over the estimate. Avoid this company at all costs.

I used Village Movers for two moves..Mine, from Lynhaven to Glenbrook, and My bride fromBoca Raton to our new home...The Lynhaven move went without hitch and was pleasurable..The one Boca not so much. All I'd say is get exact costs and crew size BEFORE the move. That way there will be no chance of "misunderstanding" later.
