Parking Moron
I live in a villa and some idiot parked their car on the street in front of my house last Sunday and it is still there today. I called the Sumter County Sheriff who sent out a deputy and he informed me that since it was on private property, there was nothing they could do. He did inform me that the vehicle was a rental car which brings to question the issue of why someone would pay rental fee and leave a car sit for two days.
I then called Community Watch who informed me that if the car was not blocking an intersection, a fire hydrant or someone's driveway, there was nothing they could do. I put a note on the windshield of the car requesting that the car be parked in the visitor parking and that if the person had an issue with that, I would be happy to "discuss" it with them. I provided my name and address as well as phone number. I also polled the immediate neighbors and they do not know whose car it is. Anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can do? Thanks |
Maybe call the rental agency and see if they are missing a car
|
If it is not preventing you from getting in or out of your driveway try not to let it upset you. There just might be a good reason why it was left there.
|
Let the air out of all 4 tires
|
I can get out of the driveway although it is more difficult with the vehicle parked where it is. I just can't understand the stupidity that some people have when there is visitor parking close by. Guess they figure the world revolves around them.
|
I thought in a previous thread it was established that you could not park on the streets. You would get a ticket. If it just depends on what county you are in than I got it wrong.
|
Nothing you can do. It's not a private road. I personally would take the note off the windshield.

As distressing as it might be to you, there does not seem to be anything that is illegal with parking it the way that they did. |
You could simply remove the note and find something more productive to concentrate on. You know there are still many more "morons" out there doing other horrible things that could impact you even more. Like saving seats in the squares, taking dogs to dining establishments, busting through our gates, peeing in your pool, contractors speeding, snowbirds clogging the streets, etc.
Or, perhaps consider doing what that famous philosopher, Aaron Rodgers, said: "R-E-L-A-X". |
Are there conflicting rules between The Villages and the county?

I agree with all those who are advising to remove the note from the car.
|
Why not call the rental agency and report you have found one of their stolen vehicles. Maybe there is a reward!
|
Please let us know if they come back for the car.

The villas have extra parking. I saw that. The rest of us can have friends park around our street and not worry about tickets. |
I am confused someone on another thread said they were playing cards at a friends house and parked on the street and got a ticket. Are the villa streets private property and the normal streets not??

Bet he owns a dog
Bet he owns a dog and it does business in other yards:boxing2:

I haven't heard of anyone getting a parking ticket for anyplace in the neighborhood parts of The Villages. |
The police office made an incorrect call. The street is not private. second it could be stolen so they should at least notify the company who own the car to check. sad to say, but it is legal to park on the street here.
|
I thought the Villages was the "Happiest place" - Seems to me from reading some of these threads that there are some that need a lesson in humanity and RELAX!!! Not everything deserves a reaction or comment. SMH!!!
|
It could be a gift. They just forgot to give you the key.
Really, I would call the rental company and tell them that there was one of their cars illegally parked and request that they resolve the issue with the car "renter since it has "flat tires" and cannot be driven. Chances are that if none of the neighbors are aware of the owner, and it has not been moved, there is something more complex. The rental car company should have a name if all is well. |
It is my understanding that villa STREETS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY and their upkeep is paid from our fees just as postal stations and recreation center drives and parking.
Thus the county does not have any jurisdiction over them. |

And you said it isn't blocking your driveway. I must be missing something - I don't understand why the rental car is causing a problem for you. As Bonny suggested, I'd take the note off the windshield. |
I guess those that think the car is ok where it is are those that would park any where they please.

I see no way to avoid the fact that letting the air out of someone else's tires would be a criminal act. Furthermore, two days seems to be a bit short to consider it abandoned. No one wants others parking in front of their homes, especially for more than a few hours at a time, but some things we have to accept as the price of living in an area of limited parking; the visitors' parking could have been full when he parked it. At some point, a call to the rental company is appropriate.

The streets are pretty narrow and a parked one blocks 2-way traffic. |

Good Luck! |
If it's unlocked, push it in front of your neighbor's house when everyone is sleeping. Usually after 9:00.
|
The streets are very narrow in the villa neighborhoods, and the lot sizes are small. I can see why it would be really inconvenient to have to carefully back out of your driveway and go around this vehicle every day. Sorry you have deal with that. Good luck in resolving the issue.

And remember what we say to each other when something is not fair or right or annoying as hell. We look at each other and we say. It isn't cancer. And by this time next month it will be resolved. |
The person moved the car last night after dark so it is a moot issue at this point. Just another example of how some people have no common sense or courtesy for others. Thanks for most of the comments especially those recognizing that in the villas, the streets are narrow and parking on the streets creates a problem especially at night. And I didn't even have the opportunity to have a "discussion" with the moron. All in all, if that's the biggest problem I have to deal with, I consider my self a very fortunate man!
|
I am happy for you that the moron moved the car. I agree it would have made me nuts too - just because it is unnecessary and rude.
|
What did you do ?

That's what I thought when I read your OP. On to the next big issue in TV |
Ok I think that a car parked such that it makes it hard for someone to get in and out of their driveway is cause to be miffed. The OP had a very good reason to be put out. No it is not life threatening but it is really annoying.

There may be a rule against parking continuously for X number of days. Try calling deed compliance.

I feel somewhat offended with the "snowbirds clogging the streets" comment. Snowbirds are not the ONLY ones driving in this area. We own homes, pay taxes, support businesses, and pay our fee 12 months a year. I just don't understand the unkind attitude toward snowbirds by some people. Maybe you should look at us in a positive way..."We just love those snowbirds. They leave in the spring and keep helping us pay for all the things we enjoy all year long." Amen. |
