Do Police Have Gate Cards?

Just curious, does anyone know whether the Sheriff's Deputies, Fire Dept, and EMS have to stop, and wait for the gates to go up, or do they have remotes to raise the gates as they approach? If they have to stop and wait that could delay an emergency response.

Good Question. Same question about fire and emergency vehicles.

57ChevyFI 02-18-2015 12:32 PM

They do not have gate cards, the gate attendants open the gates for them during emergency response

Well, there 'ya go. It's just been proven that no one needs a gate card!

Did you lose yours? Well, it's only $15 to get a new one.
What a joke!

villager 02-18-2015 01:15 PM

What about the many places where there is no gate attendant?

karostay 02-18-2015 03:28 PM

Has anyone ever not gotten through a gate card or no card ?

dbussone 02-18-2015 05:40 PM

In most, if not all, communities with gates, police and fire responders have gate remotes that open the gates from a distance. Come on folks do you think a police officer at an unmanned gate is just going to sit there waiting for a gate to open after pushing a button.

TheVillageChicken 02-18-2015 05:57 PM

Everyone with a finger tip has a gate card. I have only seen one gate in the Villages that doesn't have a button.

At least, the sheriff deputies have a gate cards. I just saw one using a card a couple days ago at the St. Charles gate (by Sand Hill GF)

Maybe it's time to move to a truly gated community if it's really that bad.

Matzy 02-18-2015 06:27 PM

As I heard after asking for that issue: For emergency: All Fire-and EMS stations always located close to a gate which has attendance, they open immediately. Police and EMS-/Fire does have gate cards.

I lived in a couple of them in Boca Raton and Boynton Bch. Florida and believe me if someone wanted to get in, which happened several times, then they will.

Making TV a true gated community would skyrocket the cost of living here. Once a community becomes truly gated, the community is responsible for all the streets which would include pot holes, repainting lines, repaving, etc. A provision would have to be made at all gates for a vehicle to turn around before entering each Village. Currently, there is no room to do that and it would cost a bundle.

Shimpy -- you are correct. We are from the same area as you. There are far more breakins in gated communities than non-gated. The belief is there is "better stuff" in gated communities.

Bonanza..............where did you find the stats on your statement?

How about removing the gates and installing stop signs with red light cameras--it appears to me there are at least 10 gates whacked each year @ the St. James gate

john1953 02-19-2015 05:26 AM

I keep thinking about this, and wonder why someone would ask. At the very most, the emergency responders would encounter one, maybe two gates.

Turned on to Canal Street from 466A. Sheriff car right behind me. Used my card to pass through the gate. Looked in my mirror and the gate opened for the Sheriff's car right after me. I couldn't tell if he used a gate card but the gate opened quickly so I "assume" he had a gate card.

This would result in at least that number of golf carts getting whacked each year.
