Wandatime 02-24-2015 11:39 PM

Dang it. Good thing I get all my jewelry at Beall's Outlet.

On senior day.

With coupons.

But seriously, I hate this happened. Sometimes we forget this really isn't a fool-proof, fail-safe, bubble of love, don't we?

kcrazorbackfan 02-24-2015 11:52 PM

It only takes 1 time going into the right house at the wrong time. :boom:

CassieInVa 02-25-2015 12:00 AM

Do we have more details? Occupants not home? How did they get in - sliders? Did they ever catch anyone for all of those other break ins? I just hate hearing this - the homeowners must feel so violated.

karostay 02-25-2015 08:53 AM

Just need to shoot a few

Love you, Wandatime!:1rotfl:

I don't know why people don't put in a SimpliSafe alarm. Totally wireless and installs in less than 30 mins. Just to have it set at night when you are sleeping is comforting. Also includes a smoke alarm. No contracts and not monitoring fee unless you want it and then it is only $14.95 mo.

No brainer.

There were 17 perps apprehended when there was a rash of burglaries about a year ago. We have the Sumter County Sheriff, the Lady Lake Police, The Marion County Sheriff and now Fruitland Park and Wildwood and thank heavens they all work well together. Several of the offenders were apprehended because of combined efforts of Sumter and Marion County Sheriff's department and even the Orlando Police department helped with information.

And the population is installing security systems and some mighty fancy camera's inside and out. Those bad guys have picked the wrong bunch.

The scary thing is................they won't know it's Beall's Outlet, Senior Day, Coupon until it's too late. Hope the people weren't at home.

tomwed 02-25-2015 12:23 PM

There are a lot of homes here. I don't hear so well so I guess my tv is a little too loud. I'm thinking if I leave the sound on really loud when I'm not home, who would break in with so many other quiet houses around me? [they may be loud too, but i can't hear it]

The perps around here know that many TV homeowners are armed, so why take a chance on the noisy house?

The criminal element has little fear of being caught because if they did then most wouldn't break-in in broad daylight. Most apparently have established a homeowners pattern and habits. In order to do so I suspect most have a legitimate reason to be in The Villages.

It also must be a real incentive for them to believe they are dealing with many defenseless oldsters with whom they believe have some very valuable property.

Our street almost always has lawn company trucks or construction company trucks parked. I assume most neighborhoods are the same.
I'd think it would be easy for any robber to park on a street and figure out the patterns of a household.
If you see a couple depart with a couple of golf bags on their cart, chances are they'll be gone for a couple of hours.
We all need to watch out for our neighbors, and question anything suspicious.

janmcn 02-25-2015 04:12 PM

The easiest thing people can do right now today is leave a radio blaring every time you leave the house. The robber may see two people drive away in a golf cart, but they won't know for sure that another person is in the house.

e-flyer 02-26-2015 06:12 PM

The other on-line news reported this one and another break-in (in the Village of Pinellas), both on Tues. in mid afternoon. Neighbors need to be watching out for each other.

There was also an article in the Daily Sun today (2/26).

tommy steam 02-26-2015 07:45 PM

The article was on page c6 in the Sun. According to the article there was a total of 9 break-ins this month with one failed attempt. On the last attempt ,alert neighbors called the police and they caught the thief. Remember if you see something that concerns you call the police.

TNLAKEPANDA 02-26-2015 08:07 PM

Keep an eye on your neighbors and question anyone lurking around!

Would this be like a K Mart Blue light flashing up north ?

" Bubble of Love " :a20:

graciegirl 02-27-2015 09:23 AM

If you see someone parked in your neighborhood or someone walking that doesn't look like a typical villager; younger, dressed differently, what I am trying to say is that if a person is NOT wearing a golf shirt, that should be a red flag.:jester:

Back to being serious. When you leave, see if someone is watching you. Wouldn't hurt to leave on the TV. KNOW who cleans your home. Take a picture of your carpet cleaners and anyone who enters your home as a contractor.

Most of our neighborhood streets are vacant of people except senior walkers.

Have the sheriff's office come and show you how to protect your home and yourself.

Don't hesitate to call with anything that looks suspicious. That is how the burglar was caught last month.

Wanda is right, not all of us have good jewelry. I always wonder HOW the burglars know who does.

MelZ 02-27-2015 10:29 AM

Sumter Detective told me that it's totally random. They are riding around and when they see someone leave they strike. Leaving a lookout during the deed, they pry the handle of a slider and enter the house without breaking glass.

gpirate 02-27-2015 11:58 AM

How many of these homes that have been broken into had a dog in the house? I do not think anyone would attempt to enter my home because of my two boxers. I know they could shoot them but have not heard of any violence occurring when breaking and entering a home.

jebartle 02-27-2015 12:27 PM

Living in TV has it's draw-back on security

The ole boy was playing golf with 3 golfers, all with guns, needless to say the ole boy told golfers that all 20 foot putts "were good"....giggle:a20:

I know of a couple of break-ins (not recently) where the couple left small dogs at home.
However I think that in general, a barking dog is a good deterrent.
Burglars don't want to draw attention to themselves.
Our 70 lb dogs is a teddy bear, but who knows what he would do if strangers enter when we're not home.

I think the scary thing about the recent string of break-ins is that the burglars seem to have figured out a system
where they can fly "under the radar" and blend in.

How do you think they do that, Bare?

2BNTV 02-27-2015 02:39 PM

If they broke into my home, they might want to leave money. :D

Nothing worth taking and insurance would cover all losses.

My sympathies for all who have had their homes broken into. I would have a problem feeling safe, after being violated. No one wants an unwanted intruder in their home. They usually catch these crooks, fairly quickly.

Unfortunately, we can only protect ourselves against some inexperienced thieves as professionals will get into a home, no matter what one uses, for protection. IMHO

Hi Barefoot: Telling that to a guy who is really only afraid of 4 kinds of dog (big, little, alive and dead) guarantees that what you just said is your dog is a grizzly bear:D

That's funny--Please Leave Money!

They can have anything but my dog, my bird, and my husband. And not necessarily in that order.

Well that would be enough to scare me off.

If they break in my home I only hope they do it while I am here.

When our lasa was around you could throw a hotdog in a room and off he would go just close the door. Now our Belgian Shepard was trained to attack and hold until release command was given.

I don't know GG. Maybe they drive around in a golf cart with clubs on the back, wearing grey wigs.
I have faith that the Cops will figure out their system and catch them. Unfortunately they'll be out on bail in no time.
