keep the faith
Good job to all who helped re-instate the 'singles' forum thread... I've been off and on (more off for sure) the TOTV site over the last few months. Still working but have sold my house in upstate NY (Buffalo subs). IN an apt now with only a 6 month lease as I am now 'liquid' . Next decision is retirement and relo to TV! One step at a time - keep the faith!! My house sold rather quickly and at a price I couldnt refuse. Like I always say, you only need one person to like your house! you dont need to bat 300 and get into the All star game! I have bookmarked a number of TV singles club sites... and will be on to this thread every day now! Thanks..

Re: keep the faith
Wow - weren't you lucky to sell it so quickly! Congratulations.
Have you done the Lifestyle Preview? |
Re: keep the faith
ripwho....... my house is on the market and I'm looking for that one person to fall in love with it (like I did) and pay my price.
Shucks, I haven't even had one person come out to look at it so far. My local real estate market is overflowing with bargains and :'( mine isn't one. However, I shall ... keep the faith ;D |
Re: keep the faith
wiw - havent done Preview yet but have visited friends 4x over last 2 years in TV.... played some golf, wined and dined, danced, etc.. definitely a place I want to get to!

Re: keep the faith
hello fellow singles,
just want to add my peep to keep this forum going as i, too, am a widow and moving to TV in late august....looking forward to opportunities to interact with many folks, and of course it would be great to have some single friends to join for dinner, a movie, travel, etc. i will watch for your posts with enthusiasm... |
Re: keep the faith
chacha..after your willingness (with no hesitation, I might add) to join us in "The Freeze" , I think you will have many friends..single and married.
|
Re: keep the faith
thanks for remembering me, samhass, and i look forward to many more fun activities..
can't wait to invite some folks over to my little house and develop some great friendships... |
Re: keep the faith
Ripwho, congrats for selling your house in this difficult market!
Hope you'll love TV as much as I do. Welcome!! |
Re: keep the faith
chacha
I'm leaving the second week of August and hope you're here by then for us to meet. If not...will catch you at Christmas or next Easter.... You were a great sport at The Freeze and I'm looking forward to getting together again. |
Re: keep the faith
Wishing you the best of luck CIB...hope the right buyer comes along soon.
|
Re: keep the faith
Congratulations rip. Get to TV soon...you won't be sorry because it's Paradise here!
|
Re: keep the faith
Thanks to everyone who responded .... I arrive for my first visit to TV on Monday, June 30th and I can't wait. I really feel better after reading some of your responses. I've been a widow for four years and would like to find friends in couple and single circles - I really don't like "labels" like "widow" "single" ...would much rather being known as myself and find friends who share interests, laughs,etc.--couples or singles. I'm outgoing so from your responses I think I'll be OK....
Barb1191 -- what a wonderful response..so happy you have met him --- ENJOY IT TO THE FULLEST!!! |
Re: keep the faith
PJ and Brightspot - thanks for the welcome and well wishes.. up here in western new york, although real estate market never appreciated to any great extent, it never really took a dive. I got a fair price, made a few bucks over my spend from 2001.. decided to take it! next decision is when exactly do I retire, leave my 2 sons (they are both in good relationships that'll keep them up here - maybe I can talk my one engaged son to go for a 'destination' wedding in TV next February!)...Can I rent Arnie's CC???? ;D
|
Re: keep the faith
I bought a house in May and am planning to visit it monthly for a few years until I retire (I'm 51 and plan to retire early). I am single and have found people to be friendly and accepting no matter what your marital status. They are willing to judge you for who you are and if you are nice to people and outgoing (make an effort to meet people) you will have no trouble finding new friends who share the same interests. I am looking forward to moving there permanently in a few years :)
|
Re: keep the faith
thanks brightspot for the reply...i don't think i will make it by the second week of august so i will look forward to seeing you at christmas time....ahh, no snow! (coming from north dakota!)....

Re: keep the faith
While I agree with most of what you say, ColeenJ, the issue is not just being single itself. A widow/widower is somewhat different from a divorced person, who is also different from a "single by choice." Someone who has lost a partner has a far more difficult time even seeing themselves as single. They see couples everywhere because they probably were a couple for a long time. Life is now different, new, hard and very raw for someone who has lost a partner. Many are looking for just friends -- not dates. A cup of coffee and someone to talk to is all it takes to brighten a day. Just mho.
|
Re: keep the faith
I agree that widow/ widower is different but many of us divorced or single by choice are just looking for a cup of coffee or someone to talk to, not dates. I personally like to find friends who share my interests (male and female) so that I have someone to golf with, ride bikes with, or talk about common interests.

Re: keep the faith
Agreeing with JBsmom and Colleen  Whether single by choice or by life's circumstances, we all desire companionship to share the good times ;D

Re: keep the faith
hi guys, I'm new to the site. jbsmom hit the nail on the head. I'm 3 years widowed,37 years together and I still have a hard time thinking I'm single. Raw defiantly describes it for me. I know I'll get over it, hopefully soon. The singles thing still seems weird to me. It's good to read others feelings about it. Getting to tv will help, I think. I really need a new start.

Re: keep the faith
benj - it will be 3 1/2 years this weekend that I will have been single (and not by choice)...my wife passed away at a young age (50). Unlike yourself, I realized I was single right away if for my own piece of mind as I needed to accept the fact she died and move on. I got more than ever engrossed in my job (a job I do enjoy) but now realize I need a change. Like yourself I'm fairly convinced TV's lifestyle will be the right move. Now if I can only pick a retirement date.....soon! I need some encourgaement from this site!!! Good luck to all...

Re: keep the faith
My husband died 7 years ago, and I still well up with tears when I think about it. I also just want some friends to do things with. Sometimes I think the whole world is couples, and even though my friends always want to include me, I feel like an add on. I know this is my perception, but it's a hard one to change. There's nothing like girlfriends doing fun, crazy things together. I'm hoping TV will be as wonderful as I think it is. I'm rambling...
Looking foward to meeting all the singles as well as couples soon. I'm grateful for TOTV, it has really given me the opportunity to get to know some folks in a fun way. md blondie |
Re: keep the faith
Right on!, Colleenj. I am a single male who gets a lot of social fulfillment from having female and males friends. That is what is so cool about being an active, young-at-heart senior; friendships can include feelings of "dates" as well as just good ol' get-togethers. It is just great to enjoy the company of someone for a movie, dinner, sports, or anything else. It's certainly true that some folk want nothing more than to have a partner again; and that's terrific for them. Others want the free and easy feeling of the company of friends. Me? When I become a Villager in about 9 months or so I'll be open to any possibility. Until then I'll continue to dream happy dreams of The Villages.

Re: keep the faith
Add me to the single but not really looking list. If I find friends and people to do things with, I'm happy. If I find someone I would call a significant other, I'm happy. Basically, I'm content with me but do like to do things with others. There is a certain pleasure in sharing a funny or pretty or tragic view of something with another. It just makes things a little better.

Re: keep the faith
Hi CIB and all. It's a beautiful day here in MD....sun is shining, about 85 degrees, and little humidity. I am getting ready to go to TV for my second lifestyle visit (five days) next Thursday. Then back home to prepare to drive down for a two month stay in a rental (Sept. & Oct.). I am really looking foward to my time in TV.
CIB...when are you coming for a lifestyle visit ??? Looking foward to meeting you and others. :) MD Blondie |
Re: keep the faith
Hi MD Blondie..... I'm so jealous, but happy for your progress in making TV relocation a closer reality!
As for me..... I just dunno. My daughter is trying to reestablish her relocation in Miami and if she does make that permanent, I'll probably do my first Lifestyle Preview this winter or next spring and she and I will share the accommodations in TV. I also look forward to meeting everyone. When my time comes, I'll announce my visit and arrange for personal "dates" for lunch, dinner, whatever. I always preferred meeting people on an individual basis rather than in a group cuz my personality is kinda reserved so when in a crowd I tend to sit in the corner and just people-watch. |
Re: keep the faith
MD Blondie....................
When is your arrival date in September? Hope it is in time for the TOTV luncheon on Sept. 19th at Crispers. If before then, we can arrange a "meet and greet"..................... :welcome: |
Re: keep the faith
for moose, who wrote on july 6 that he hoped my home in north dakota was not sitting on an oil deposit....sorry i did not see this until today....no worries about a big oil deposit on my property as i was not an owner...and many people own the land but not the mineral rights....it is not that way in florida...if they strike oil in the villages, we will all be rich!! well, anything is possible, isn't it? hope to see all of you before end of month....yeah!!!!
