Cattle Baron

I've always enjoyed Cattle Baron for the atmosphere and secondarily for the food. And it's a fun place to take out of town guests.

Went there last night for dinner. Cactus Jack was at Katie Belle's which provided some really good entertainment from our table with a view. After placing our order we headed to the salad, soup, and bread bar as usual. But it's only a salad bar now. The soup is from the menu and bread (no variety) is brought to the table. Our waitress explained that this was a decision by the new owner(s) and that it hasn't been popular with the regular diners. Not a total deal breaker but still disappointing.

Bonny 03-18-2015 09:44 AM

It's a shame because we've it enjoyed for many years. The prices were awesome! I have always wondered how long it would continue because it's definitely not a money maker.

Chi-Town 03-18-2015 10:50 AM

The new menu at Cattle Baron is higher in price than before but not unaffordable by any means. The only item that I noticed went up considerably was the escargot appetizer which may have been the best bargain in The Viilages. At $6.99 it is still reasonable.

There are new owners?
It's a surprise to me...when did this occur?

DeanFL 03-18-2015 10:56 AM

Bummer, we are going there tomorrow night with outoftown family - first time here. The soup and bread bar was a very nice feature. new owners - better be careful... NOT TOO MANY CHANGES - TVrs don't reckon to like that... we can be fickle.

Is the new menu online?
What did you order and how did you like it?
I have never been upstairs. Is there a cover charge?
Katie Bells always reminded me of the Whoop De Doo Review in Disney, in a good way.

Always been yuckie and looks like it still is!

I'm not sure if there is or was an online menu. I had the filet with bernaise sauce. The steak was cooked pefectly but average. The bernaise sauce was nondescript. My wife had the talapia and she was very happy. There wasn't a cover charge last night. We were both treated to very good service.

Word to the wise avoid eating Tilapia--its loaded with the bad Omega oil--its akin to slamming your attires shut , check out Tilapia --poison fish

CFrance 03-19-2015 07:56 AM

My attires are fine, and I don't think eating Tilapia once in a while is going to kill you.
Check this article out too snopes.com: Tilapia Warning Ask where your fish came from. It's Chinese tilapia you don't want to eat.

Now, back to Cattle Baron...

raynan 03-19-2015 10:18 AM

Anyone know who the new owners are? We've been going to the fashion shows for 4 years and the price jumped $4 this year.

Did you need to wear a jacket and tie? I have fine attires too if it's required.

Arctic Fox 03-31-2015 08:24 AM

Quite disappointed with my first visit to Cattle Baron's Club yesterday.

We had heard a lot of good things about it, so we got dressed up (unlike virtually everyone else) and I ordered one of their "specialty" steaks. It wasn't awful; just not up to what I was expecting from a place that suggests its steaks might be above average.

However, the entertainment was excellent and the house wines were very good and reasonably-priced.

mmac321 03-31-2015 03:59 PM

I also heard that is no longer residence only but now workers of TV can now use Cattle Baron.

My attires are fine, too. :evil6:
I just bought some new ones last week.

Thanks for the update on tilapia, however,
you never really know where it's coming from, do you?

simpkinp 03-31-2015 09:54 PM

Cattle Baron is disappointing compared to what it was. Better steaks for the same price lots of places. If you weren't there before the change of ownership you would not notice the difference

I've always enjoyed the Cattle Baron. I've had better food, but the CB is fine.
It's a fun place, especially if the entertainment downstairs is rockin.
I try to never eat anything from China, but eating out a lot, who knows. :yuck:

Me too, love the ambiance, music, fun and to stand on the balcony and watch so many people having such a great time .............. another one of The Village experiences you could get very few other places. Taught my granddaughter how to dance on the balcony.

Food - could be better, but then so could the food in many restaurants.

Happy Snowbird 04-01-2015 06:48 AM

According to today's Daily Sun, Katie Belles is moving to where the cattle baron is!

I did a "what?" after I read the article. Is cattle baron gone?

rustyp 04-01-2015 08:32 AM

Today's paper announces the closing of Cattle Baron and a remodel of Katie Belle's beginning of May. Katie Belle's will be relocated to the second floor. The open area upstairs will be enclosed for an addition of 300 seats. Today the space below this open area is the dance floor. Notice the rendering on page C14 does not depict a dance floor just dinning tables. Just an observation don't know any more. Only info I have is from the article in today's paper.

Villager Joyce 04-01-2015 08:57 AM

The Katie belles thread sUggested or asked if this is a April fools joke.

redwitch 04-01-2015 09:01 AM

I think it was more of a hope that the KB/CB plan is a joke. I know I hope it is but I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. There's a new sheriff in town.

Madelaine Amee 04-01-2015 09:14 AM

The updates are being done in Ms. Sharon's name, so I will hope for the very best which is how the developer usually does things.

It's still a private club for residents only. It seats 350 diners which means it will be full to the brim when there is a show at the new theater. It will probably be a nice upgrade to SS.

Only one sentence bothered me - commercial properties on the lower level! Um!

justjim 04-01-2015 09:20 AM

Hopefully, it will be for the better following the remodeling.

NYGUY 04-01-2015 09:51 AM

While I am sure some people will not like the changes, I thinks it speaks well of the family's willingness to continue investing more money on some of the older sections of The Villages.

Yes, I agree. I'm sure it will be very nice. It definitely is in need of a makeover.

This bothered me also. What does that mean, another dress shop, boutique or nail salon? I always enjoyed setting downstairs and looking up at the oak balcony above like it was a grand saloon. Or setting upstairs by the balcony looking down at the dancing. The paper showed the dance floor being moved up, or in other words a celling created. They did mention glassing in the outside balcony for a great view of the square which sounded good.

Marka 04-16-2015 02:10 PM

Two worst steaks I ever tried to eat were at cattle barons, now they are screwing with the success at Katie Belles. What utter mis - management of space. You have vacancies at squares but are going to overcrowd and ruin the acoustics of a good dance venue. Just cause the cattle barons failed you don't have to punish residents by taking away the one fun place left, (Katie Belles)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Punish residents? I think it is more of an issue of the business changing hands. A new broom, don't cha know?

I think it will be just fine when it all happens. Let's wait to fuss.
