SINGLE WANNABE"S

So I live in Colorado visited tv 3 times, did the lifestyle thing once and have bought the TV thing hook line and sinker. I keep seeing people post about how they are trying to get to tv but cant sell or whatever. So I wonder, How many of us are there out there? Are you trying to start a new life like I am?

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

benj....... thanks for initiating this topic! YES, I'm a single wannabee and I've been hanging out here at TOTV for a couple of months. However, I have not visited TV yet; perhaps this fall or winter I'll make the journey from southern Oregon to Florida and do the lifestyle preview. I lived in Miami Florida for 40 years before retiring and moving "out west" for an adventure. I'm living in a small (2k pop.) rural town, 8 miles from Grants Pass, 11 miles from Medford, and 23 miles from Ashland. My old bones just can't get used to the long, dreary, frosty winters so I look forward to the time when I can relocate back to Florida and partake in the many social opportunities.

It has been quiet in this Singles Forum for the last couple of days and I'm hoping we don't get bumped out again. C'MON SINGLES............. SAY SOMETHING 040

I visited TV when I rented a place in Ocala for 3 months back in 2006. I was referred to TV by the guy I rented from who actually lived in TV for 5 years. He told me how easy it would be for me to meet many single and widowed women in TV but my visits were limited in nature since I could not have access to all the amenities. But I did enjoy the strolls around Market Square and Sumpter Landing where I got a good feeling for the atmosphere. I sit up here, 10 miles north of Ohare in a Chicago suburb waiting patiently for my house to sell. I hope I don't have to spend another dismal winter here!!

CIBabe,

That looks like something I could handle while awaiting my relocation. If I get my house sold does that mean I get to walk the plank??

p.s. always enjoy looking at your photos and comments on the TOTV.

Glad y'all like my idea of "being in the same boat" and sailing is among my most treasured memories from living in Miami all those years. The sailboat pic was taken in 1979 while I was aboard another sailboat (a Watkins27) on Biscayne Bay.

One of my goals (wishes) is to sail the Florida waters again someday ::) I'm hoping there is a Sailing Club in TV 8)

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

Hey Singles,

Any ideas of what will be among the first things you do when you get settled into being a resident of TV? Of course, meeting and greeting all TOTV members. After all, how can we forget how helpful and courteous all the folks of TOTV have been to we wannabees, both couples and singles!! But, after that, what activities will you check out first?

Me? I would like to participate in the "Sunshine" committee of the Singles Clubs. It is described as ...
"Our goal is to reach out and give our fellow members a show of kindness or a helping hand in time of need. Simple, thoughtful things such as a card that fits the occasion, or a home or hospital visit, driving them to and from the doctor or store, picking up medicine or groceries -- just letting them know that someone cares and is thinking about them."

Sounds pretty cool to me. Also, just about any of the sports activities from softball to tennis, and just about any thing else that can keep off the couch and out of bakeries. The various Singles clubs seem to have great participation by their members. To paraphrase ConeyIsBabe, we're all in this together.

What clubs, churches, and educational pursuits will you tend to join after you have unpacked your last box? Is there someone out there who can teach this single guy the fine art of line dancing?? ;D Just can't get the hang of it although, I must admit, by the time "happy hour" ends I'm usually dancing pretty well...perhaps, it's just my imagination as "The Temptations" said. :dontknow:

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

My sister and brother-in-law moved to TV a few years ago. I visited last year and fell in love with the place. I hope to relocate summer '09. I'll take my time "settling in" because I will be buying all new furniture, but won't do so all at once.

I plan to first enjoy evenings on the Squares, learning my way around TV, meet TOTVers, join some clubs. I'll have to determine what sports activities I want to join. I'll take some golf lessons and see if I can pick up the game. I'll play shuffleboard, and if I can find some volleyball or basketball teams, may get back into those games. I don't plan to initially join the singles clubs. I'll first see if I can find a "crew of characters" to be my friends/playmates. If unsuccessful doing it on my own, then I'll join the singles clubs. I will join other clubs (the Civil War is one interest), I'll definitely have an annual pass to Walt Disney World since I just love it. It'll be great living so close. I'll do some local touring around Florida.

There is a class where you can learn how to line dance. I think others have mentioned it. If you search "line dance" on this site, you'll probably find where it's discussed.

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

tkret......... great question......... one that should stimulate some responses from all the other single wannabees reading this forum, but who haven't yet posted!

I'm not very athletic and will not be playing golf or ball activities but as far as dancing goes, I always favored the slow-dance anyway. Photography, Computer, clubs for a start!

I have been single for a very long time, by choice, and have attended my share of "singles clubs" but have never mastered the art of walking into a room filled with strangers and making friends instantly! I would much rather participate in an activity that interests me. I would join the Fitness Center because I want access to an indoor swimming pool. I am anxious to take some Learning Center Classes - so many choices - art? Spanish? or French? :dontknow:

P.S. I sure do wish there is a sailing club ;D

ConeyIsBabe,

two observations that I question....(1) from the sound of your postings I think that you would have NO problem making friends instantly. (2) Start a sailing club when you get here. I don't know the first thing about it but I would be willing to learn! Just call me Gilligan.

And you are quite correct about the Learning Center Classes... so many WONDERFUL choices. It will be an exciting day when we hear from you that you sold your home.

bestmickey........ I love your idea of a "crew of characters" to hang out when you become a new TV resident. Maybe you will invite me to tag along when I get there ???

tkret....... THANKS so much for your encouragement; I wish I had some of your optimism. I suspect you will be a TV resident way before me, so.... if you are still single ;) by the time I get there :dontknow: .... save a seat for me !

P.S. Add the Scrabble Club & the Travel Club to my list of activities.

Hi CIBabe
What the heck am I STILL doing on this site at this time of night? It's just so much fun and interesting to read the comments, advice, and humor of TOTV members.

Anyway, you stated that you suspect that I will be a TV resident way before you ... well, I may have something to share with you later this week. In addition, I will still be single and I WILL save a seat for you at Town Square. :beer2: And by the way, I love the little wink guy (or gal) in your message.

You stay positive and I'll continue to lift you up in prayer for a great blessing to come you way. It sounds like you have a beautiful home and there IS a savvy buyer out there who will recognize it, too.

I don't mean this meanly...I really don't...please forgive me if you take my question wrong...

But...I don't understand this thread's title....

What's a single wannabe?

I guess my question is....are you single or are you not or are you not single and want to be?

I'm confused...and btw...I'm not single and don't wannabe.

tkret 07-07-2008 03:19 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

Good question Brightspot01. The thread is found on the singles section of the Forum. Although anyone can participate it is mostly "attended" by single folk who are not, yet, Villagers but want to be. Hence, wannabees. It's mainly an attempt to assure future residents that there are activites in The Villages for single residents as well as couples.

benj 07-07-2008 03:37 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

brightspot, I started the thread. Single wannabe's are village wannabe's who are single. The single thread doesn't seem to be used alot and I just wanted other singles, or what the heck widows to post their stories. Some of us are out here going nuts trying to get to tv but the real estate market or whatever is keeping us from getting there. Hearing that others are frustrated and going through the same struggles is helpful. I was married 34 years together 37 and single is a hard pill to swallow. I'm trying to start a new life and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.

WELL SAID tkret & benj :agree:

Ummmmm.....it's only 8:45 pm on my coast..... and the sky is still light. There's a Bambi who thinks she's my pet, munching on grass a few feet from the house. I guess it's 11:45pm on the east coast & in TV-Land so whoever is still awake I'll say g'nite!

I do wish more TOTVers would participate on this fun forum so us "wannabees" can keep the faith.

Hello, again, brightspot01
very cute graphics but, please, no need to be hit over the head. That was a very good question you posed. I can certainly understand how the title of this thread is unclear. You stated in your posting, "I'm (you) not single and I don't wannabe". There are some of us single people who don't wannabe, some who wannabe, some who don't care either way, some by choice, some not ... but if we're reading this thread and live outside TV, we "wannabe" your neighbors and TOTV friends.

Thanks, brightspot01, for helping us keep this thread "alive". wav :clap2:

CIB,

FYI, as you might imagine...there is a sailing club; they meet monthly at Lake Miona Rec Center and plan various excursions. Recently, they got 'permission' to launch a couple of boats and sail on Lake Sumter....it was a beautiful sight to see sailcloths in the breeze over Lake Sumter.

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

hi single friends,

wanted to tell coney island babe that we have a lot in common. i am from new york, also, and have had many years of "western adventure", the latest five years in a very small town in north dakota...i am packing up a u-haul truck mid-august and heading to my new place in TV. want to hitch a ride? luckily for me i did not have a home to sell...good luck with yours. i also admire your computer savvy for posting photos, etc. i don't know how to do any of that and can barely post a response! :)

have enjoyed everyone's comments. as for what i plan to do after i am settled in, i first will join the french-speaking club, the philosophy club and the paranormal psychology club. i may start an ARE group. will definitely be dancing just about every night, probably most often at lake sumter because closer to my home. look forward to meeting all of you.
as for the gentleman who is a widower, none of us "wannabe" that, but many of us are and will understand where you are coming from...i am sure you will have plenty of companionship at TV and that is most important at this stage of our lives, i think...

ConeyIsBabe 07-07-2008 03:41 PM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

Villages07...... Thanks for telling me about the Sailing Club; I was confident that there must be boating clubs at TV - something to look forward to !

Chacha..... N/Dakota -=- THAT'S REALLY COLD :o

There are good instructions for posting pictures on the Picture Perfect forum. Click on How To Post Pictures and follow the steps. Of course, you must already have your photos on your hard drive or on a cd or disk........... do you ???

I think, for us wannabees, it enhances our effort to make friends if we submit a photo; just my opinion. I realize many people are hesitant to post their picture on the world-wide-web but I have been posting mine ever since my first computer 8 years ago, and it hasn't hurt me so far ::)

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

CIB, of course you're invited to be one of the "crew of characters"! All Single TOTVr's (STOTV) are invited to be in the "crew of characters". As we can see, many of us already are. ;) It doesn't matter how or why one is single (widowed/divorced/never married), just that you are currently single.

While most of us will attend the TOTV gatherings at Crisper's (myself included), I've a suggestion for the STOTV's. As each of us relocates to TV, we have a gathering of STOTV "characters", to welcome the newcomer(s). It can be an evening or afternoon gathering at a local watering hole. While not everyone drinks, I think if we can find a quiet bar where we can all sit, talk, have munchies, it would be a nice way of getting to know each other and of greeting the newbies. I'm not suggesting a "formal" singles "club" of TOTV members, but an informal "crew" of TOTV singles (only singles). Yes, I also plan to associate with married couples, but I think couples have many opportunities for socializing. I think us singles need more opportunities and support for each other. What do the rest of you singles think of this idea?

RIPWHO, yes we did have plans to raise a toast. If I recall correctly, you were going to request some tunes from Eric Clapton...Cocaine being one. I rescheduled my relocation for one year and now expect to be there in summer '09. Sounds like you may beat me to it, huh?

ConeyIsBabe 07-08-2008 01:53 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

BestMickey ......... thank you for accepting me into the "crew of characters" for STOTVers, it's a wonderful idea....... kinda like a welcome wagon ;D It's fun possibilities like this that give us TV wannabees something to look forward to.

Let's hope we can all maintain this little nook in cyberspace to stay in touch ;D

tkret 07-08-2008 01:56 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

Bestmickey,
Great idea about having a STOTV get-together. Yes, couples have almost a built in social structure whereas singles kind of move in and out of various circles. And, of course, there are singles who eventually want to join the couples crowd with a partner of their own. An unofficial (unsanctioned) group of singles who "met" and became friends because of TOTV is a fine idea. I, too, plan on a TV arrival during the summer of next year BUT I'm beginning to doubt that I can wait until then.

Now, can someone tell me what "Crisper's" is and what the gatherings are all about? Thanks

bestmickey 07-08-2008 02:18 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

tkret, Crisper's is a restaurant in TV. TOTVr's have a monthly gathering on an afternoon. If you do a search for Crispers, you should pull up the schedule and directions. I hope you do make it to TV faster than me ... for your sake. I'll be envious, but I'll get there before long!

tkret 07-08-2008 02:22 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

Thanks, bestmickey, for the info on Crisper's. Is it by Sumter Landing or Spanish Springs or elsewhere with TV and have you had the opportunity to attend any of the gatherings. Thanks, again, for the reply ... and we WILL get the STOTV up and running!!!

bestmickey 07-08-2008 02:27 AM

Re: SINGLE WANNABE"S

tkret, I just did a search....it would help if I had been spelling Crispers correctly. It should be Chrispers. Here's a link to related threads: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/sm...action=search2

No, I haven't yet gone to Chrispers. I've only visited TV once, in June 07. Since I probably won't be back until summer '09, you will probably get there before me. The group looks like they're having fun in all the photos I've seen. Enjoy!

Wow I'm so glad to see so many people on this thread. BestMickey what a great idea to have a crew of characters for stotv's. I hope I'm invited. Just today I've seen Bestmickey, coneyisbabe, tkret chachacha, and others I cant think of all single and all wannabe's. Hi md blondie

Have a great time during your August vacation and let us who aren't so lucky hear all about your experience. I think that I'll be there for about 3 days in the middle of Sept. on a "fact finding mission". I, too, would love to meet the TOTV folks.

CIB, you make a nice snowman! Are you sure you don't want to call in a real estate rep now to market your home? A professional would have access to buyers who could afford your home.

Bestmickey ....... I'm considering calling in the pro next spring.

Right now there is such a HUGE inventory of homes for sale in my area selling for much less than my asking price. I'm being stubborn and won't sell for less than I paid :dontknow:

It's not a hardship for me to endure another winter in the Frozen Tundra ::) because I know TV will be there when the timing is right for me.

I just want to say welcome to all singles to TV! I met md blondie last visit, and so glad to see you're returning! Maybe we can see Rocky & Rollers again with whoever else in STOTV wants to.
