Talk of the Villages

This site has grown as fast as The Villages! What will happen in the next 8 years?

twoplanekid 04-14-2015 07:18 AM

Because of the sheer numbers of visitors and members of this current site, it must have an impact on many decisions made by all who come to view. After talking to some who work for The Villages, they seem very aware of what takes place on The Talk of The Villages. A few posters have achieved almost rock star status to many listeners.
Let’s keep moving forward and have more fun along the way while remembering The Rotary four way test.

1.Is it the truth?
2.Is it fair to all concerned?
3.Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

looneycat 04-14-2015 09:00 AM

sheer numbers? I only see the same 20 or 30 people posting here ad infinitum.

2BNTV 04-14-2015 09:21 AM

It was also a time where some people have formed, enduring friendships.

IMHO - Now it seems that some people have a need to be right as opposed to respecting another's point of view. Disagreeing without being disagreeable and respecting another person's point of view seems to be a lost art. It seems to me that it has gotten much more critical with the opinion's expressed, as evidence that some long time posters have left.

It was also a good place to go for recommendations for vendors because some people displayed the integrity to be trusted on their opinions.

I can only hope the newer posters can form friendships and get the help they need, to live their life effectively in TV with the info posted on this site.

Just as in real life, most people only observe.

I must say that my feelings about TOTV are extremely positive. My husband and I are moving to TV in September - our house in on the market now. And this site has been just wonderful in helping us make decisions. If TOTV is any indication of what we have to look forward to in September, then I'm positive we're making the right choice. I've only encountered a few grumps which is to be expected but the positive people far outnumber those grumps.

You will be tickled pink once you are here. It really is a fabulous place. I hope your home sells quickly.

I joined on July 27, 2007 after Talk Host gave a speech about Talk of the Villages to a Villages Computer Club Friday meeting at La Hacienda Recreational Center on that Friday. TOTV was offering a trip to one person lucky enough to win it in some kind of lottery among those who signed up for TOTV that weekend.

There seem to be a couple of hundred people though who post fairly regularly on TOTV. It is not just the Top 10 people with too much time on their hands or who have something they really want to communicate.

I had wanted somewhere to talk about my 224 613 Project about getting practical materials for survivors/victims of crimes into or accessible through libraries of all sorts. I had tried Findlaw back around 2001 but that only really got me the attention of a particularly clever, nasty, and often defamatory cybersmearer/cyberbully up through 2006 or so.

TOTV has been very useful for my 224 613 Project. There were a couple of nasty postings against me around 2007 on TOTV but things have improved quite a bit since then.

Tal - if not the first poster you certainly had to be in the first 10?

I was the Number one in posts for a long time before Graciegirl joined in to offer her many nice remarks about the Villages and TOTV. She made it a joy for many.

There are many posters I love seeing how they respond to others posts. TOTV is very cordial as the internet goes.

There were other posters on TOTV when I joined on July 27, 2007 but I do not remember who the Top Posters were back then. Many of them seem gone now though who I would see regularly after July 2007.

You forgot:
0. Does it have one lane or two?

Yes, I still prefer one lane roundabouts as in Urbana unless driving my brothers 2015 Honda Fit which has a right side view camera that displays those sneaky people who drive in the right (outside) roundabout lane but are turning left. It's very useful in The Villages.

The advertisers come and go as well. Pauly's Pizza was our favorite and they closed in 2012 and were later replaced by Flippers. Cindy Chevrolet, I believe that is now George Nahas Chevy in Wildwood. Golf USA looks like the roof of Edwin Watts Golf and Root 466 Hair I believe is now Leslie Jon Salon. Showtime Music, Dominic's Ristorante or Bruster's Ice Cream I'm not familiar with. Bealls Outlet and CVS Pharmacy I guess are the only ones unchanged.

JohnZ used to own Bruster's on 42. I really miss his posts as they were often amusing. That ice cream place closed a few years ago as far as I can tell as I have not been up near there for quite some time. http://brusters.com

Bruster's was located in the Mulberry Plaza and it closed about four years ago. They served great pumpkin ice cream.
I also miss John's posts - he was a very funny guy.

It was very good ice cream. We only got up there a few times usually when we had visiting relatives with a desire for rich ice cream. Now, we just head to Haagen-Dazs in Sumter Landing. http://www.haagendazs.us/

Often miss Muncle's humor and will go back and look at some of his often hilarious points.

I'm enjoying the new friends I'm making on TOTV and throughout TV. And enjoyed meeting the group at Crispers yesterday. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
