NPR- chefs for seniors

Young man in WIsconsin started a company called chefs for seniors. They come to your home and prepare a weeks worth of food. The goal was to keep seniors independent . I thought this would be a great service to have here. Love to have this for my mom

Would you use such a service?

I would love this idea for my dad!

NYGUY 04-27-2015 01:03 PM

While we don't need the service, I think it sounds like a great idea!!

What if it costs $75 for a weeks dinners and lunches for labor plus the cost of the ingredients? Labor include shopping, cooking and clean-up in your kitchen using your kitchen equipment.

I believe there was also someone who has advertised in the Daily Sun in the past that they would cook a weeks worth of meals at your home.

Mom and I would love this!

Also with all due respect, people were responding to the OP, who said, "I thought this would be a great service to have here. Love to have this for my mom. Would you use such a service?

Nobody said it had to be the particular service named.

I was hoping that there would be something like this here. I think many end up in assisted living because of being unable to prepare food for themselves . Wouldn't it be wonderful to have someone cook and visit weekly ensuring nutrition and company as an added benefit . Not to mention how expensive assisted living places costs. Not saying there is no place for assisted living but maybe delayed a bit if you want to stay home

Sounds like Meals on Wheels, but better!
Any business that allows seniors to live independently for longer is a great idea. :eclipsee_gold_cup:

Are you thinking about it as a possible business venture? We know you enjoy cooking. :)

I think $75 plus ingredients sounds very reasonable.

Is that the actual cost or are you guessing?

What a great idea on so many levels. Not only does it provide healthy meals for seniors in their own home, it frees up their time from the chore of cooking to enjoy other activities, and it gives them personal contact when the meals are delivered.

I don't care what it's called, its a great idea. If the original poster likes to cook, I'd think you could be quite successful and become an entrepreneur. It might take some legal advice, but I think you have hit on an amazing idea.

There are several companies like this in Orlando. I think it would be very popular here in The Villages. Also there are places to go to prepare your own food for a week. They have all the ingredients, and they help you make up your menus and the containers to take it home in. Also it's fun to do as a group. My Hunter's Creek Women's Association did it several times. Fun!

Have you used them? I'd love to get them for mom

You all sound like the sharks on Shark tank

Figure out how much it will cost you to start up small and try it, if popular you can expand. Problems will be advertising, and making differing meals for people with different food requirements: no salt; no sugar; no nuts; vegan, etc. Will be complicated here.

But this is the Land of Opportunity, so go for it.
