My mom raised ten of us hooligans. She managed to keep us all out of jail. But if she ever grab the top of your shoulder it felt like Spock off of Star Trek. We would drop to your knees.

Saw this on the noon news. GO MOM! Good for her.

Jim 9922 04-28-2015 11:45 AM

The city's Family Welfare Department will probably go after her for "child abuse". Imagine, a mother wacking her poor little child just because of a little looting.:jester:

If a father was hitting his daughter like that, would people be saying, "Go Dad"??

Even a father hitting his son........

If she was looting, burning, causing mayhem, I would hope that the answer would be yes. The hitting was not the point. Being a responsible parent by confronting her child is the point. She may have saved that boys life today.

Good work mom!:pepper2:

rubicon 04-28-2015 01:44 PM

That mother ought to be publicly celebrated by that community because you know the more likely scenario is far more of those parents praised their kids for standing up to those pigs and "the man's" injustices.

Cisco Kid 04-28-2015 03:22 PM

It looks like she has inspired others. :eclipsee_gold_cup:
The news is now showing other parents coming out to drag their kids home.

Should she have scolded him and put him in timeout?

On the local news here in Maryland the mother is getting positive coverage. The positive coverage is from local citizens and politicians.
As of today, Tuesday, their has been 247 arrest, 144 vehicles burned, 15 structure fires and 20 injured officers. Officers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington DC are either here now or on the way.

Well. I 'd dearly like to believe him. But he's wrong. Checks on social media sources indicate that anarchists and thugs from all over the country are involved in the riots in Baltimore. At least 20 of the sources participated in the Ferguson riots.

I disagree. The main point is SOME parent in that kid's life cares enough to show him right from wrong.

Exactly.

I saw her interviewed briefly this evening in a calmer, news/talk setting, and she is trying to keep her only son alive and out of prison. "I'm a single mother of 6 children, and I choose not to live like that any more!"

Here she is, speaking about the incident. I like her, and you can bet the teachers in the district WISH their students had a mom or dad like her.

I think those words have been severely blown out of proportion and exaggerated.

I saw this live and this tape has been edited. A portion left out were these words; “One burning building will be looped on television over and over again and the thousand of demonstrators who did it the right way have been lost in the discussion,” President Obama

I live in Baltimore. We're moving to The Villages in September. I'm SICK about the riots. Our city is a wreck. It had come so far since the riots of 1968 and now we're right back where we were. My experience has been that the police aren't the problem - the family structure is the problem and the school system stinks. I find that the people will look for any reason to cause trouble. Just walking down the street in some neighborhoods you can get taunted. They do not want white people in the city and look for any reason to cause trouble. Did you know that Baltimore is now the heroin capital of the U.S. - YUP! Isn't it great! People drive from all over to buy their heroin here. As much as I've loved this city all my life, I'm SO glad to be getting out of here.

Baltimore Guy: I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

sunnyatlast 04-29-2015 10:02 AM

The sober, thinking American public is being taken for utter fools if anyone thinks we believe Baltimore "was ruled" Monday night by "a handful" of criminals and thugs, with these factual numbers involved.

And these don't even include all the "criminals and thugs" who got away or went unnoticed.

Personally, I'm mighty tired of being lied to and taken for a fool when told such nonsense. Disrespect for elected leadership is earned.
"Baltimore Police said

235 arrests were made overnight--

201 adults and 34 juveniles.

Twenty officers were injured in Monday night's violence.

The mayor's office said the city's fire department dealt with

fires in 144 vehicles and

Fires in 15 buildings.

Baltimore police said one person is in critical condition after one of those fires.

Violence ruled Baltimore Monday night......."
Baltimore riots lead to 202 arrests, 159 fires - Baltimore Sun

.

CFrance 04-29-2015 10:18 AM

A drop in the bucket compared to the size of Baltimore... also compared to the Halloween fires in Detroit and New Year's Eve vandalism in the outer suburbs of Paris.

I'm not justifying it, but nothing "ruled" Baltimore except the media.

I am a staunch supporter of LE officers--had them in my family and as friends. But these riots are going to continue as long as incidents like the snapped spine, et al, continue. I think some neighborhoods would benefit by being policed by more of their own.

deestatham 04-29-2015 10:25 AM

Freddy Gray had spinal surgery the week before the arrest due to a car accident he had earlier.

A "minor detail", I suppose we'll be told it is.

One week after ANY torso surgery is not long enough for things to heal back together and hold when you're out on the streets and not slowly, carefully walking in your house.

I don't think anybody thinks the cops who arrested him are all innocent of something awful done to him. But in hearing from Baltimore officials speaking in the news that the police force there is a majority of minority officers, I don't think a racial imbalance in the force is the issue.

Where oh where did you get that information? Please post a link. It seems this rumor has been debunked by the Baltimore Sun.

You think Baltimore is rough? We have roundabouts to deal with!

Cisco Kid 04-29-2015 05:01 PM

What if free-speech protesters were to choose a city to demonstrate. And they chose The Villages. And they posted it on social media. 500 came to demonstrate. Would the politicians in Florida let Brownwood square burn. Someday, one of these guys are going to say "hey why are we burning down our own house"

Suzi 04-29-2015 09:39 PM

Mother of the year: 6 children by different fathers - none in the home. When did we start celebrating motherhood like that? Gee, regular everyday mothers are married, Dad is home, they work and raise children without government help. They are the "mothers of the year". Some people are beginning to get so conditioned to this nonsense of entitlement that they think the kind of behavior shown by this mom is incredibly notable.
How far have we fallen.

The title of "mother of the year" was in the headlines, not from people here.

She can't go back and re-do the births of her children to have them all of the same father. But she can and did resolve to change what she can change NOW. She's trying to keep her son from being another Freddie Gray and to keep him alive and out of the gangs.

graciegirl 04-30-2015 06:17 AM

Get in trouble, you stay in jail

If you run from a cop, you may be harmed.

You burn your butt...you sit on the blister.

Some of the things heard growing up a few decades ago.
