As I look around what is happening in Baltimore and earlier in Ferguson I'm having second thoughts about calling survivalists "wingnuts".

That class war that some have been aiming for, appears to be here

If you are living in an inner city, you could be rightfully concerned for your safety. On the other hand, violence from protests will not be going out to other areas of the cities.

A survivalist - one who fears violence from another ethnic group or "the government" - and wants to live in a compound of like minded persons is in the right wing category of wing-nuts.

However, as long as they do not break any laws, that is their right to do what they want.

You just described the right wing category of wing-nuts that live in The Villages to a tee - "one who wants to live in a compound of like minded persons". Unfortunately, they are scaring away all the sane people and becoming the majority.

Big tea party week coming up. Mike Huckabee and Carly Fiorina will both announce their candidacy for the president of the United States. Happy days are here again.

Back on topic - I sincerely doubt if any racial violence is going to spill out of the inner cities into suburban communities or rural communities. No need for any worry or stockpiling of supplies, ammunition, or anything else outside of the normal that one does for natural disaster possibilities (maybe a week worth of food and water.)

As far as Huckabee and Fiona getting into the 2016 competition - good! Both are interesting people and give different choices.

Your definition of 'sane' is 180 out from normal peoples' definition of that term.

Well, in all seriousness, you would not want to live in any large, blue state inner city (nor red in some cases). If problems develop, or EBT cards go on the fritz, there will be rioting, looting and worse.

On the other hand, the suburbs are much better protected, and there are a lot of 2nd amendment supporters there as well.

Your statement about the suburbs having a lot is 2nd amendment supporters is rather funny. On a per capita basis, I would bet the inner city residents will have more firepower than the residents of the 'burbs in any large city you choose whether it be Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, etc.

So, worry about it as much as you want. Set up a killing field around your home in The Villages. Man the perimeter 24/7. Personally, I am going to play golf and have a couple of beers at City Fire.

I think you're wrong about the level of firearms ownership. The thugs in the inner city are well armed but the average underclass citizen not so much ... can't afford it. You would be surprised at the level of gun ownership in "red state" suburbia ... not talking about The Villages in particular but across the country.

Sounds like your strategy is to eat, drink and be merry ...so do whatever you want to do ... have another beer and don't worry about it.

You're a couple of years behind in your thinking - as a suburbanite outside of a large city we are already well armed in our neighborhood and keeping our doors locked 24/7 whether we are home or not. Over the last 2 years we have had several home invasions, armed robberies, and burglaries - people tied up and duct taped, etc. - thankfully no loss of life over these incidents (yet). This is an upper middle class neighborhood which not so long ago was farm country. Drug addicts need a lot of money to continue their habit. Why would think that they would not go where the money is? Why would they rob their neighbors who are probably just as poor as they are?

It is easy. To make statements as above requires allowed, open, free thinking and opinions.
In addition the the issued party talking points do not go to this level of understanding, hence the responders are left with nothing more than picking something they "FEEL" is appropriate from the allowed discussion list. How else could anybody explain the off topic out from nowhere responses.

Well thanks for the well-intentioned advice, but somehow early morning drinking, guns and tube socks are probably not going to work for me ... at least not all at the same time.

Here, in The Villages, there have been a very few number of burglaries, no home invasions, no armed robberies, and no person on person crime to speak of. One lady did get her purse snatched at the outer edge of The Villages a couple years ago.

Sorry, I did say that I was outside of a major city so obviously not The Villages, but I should have specified that I am currently up north. I'm a part-time villager. I was addressing it from that vantage point because the poster who I was responding to was talking about the suburbs.

However, as I'm sure you are well aware, there have been rashes of burglaries in TV and I bet most of them are due to drug issues. Just saying, unless something is done about the proliferation of drug issues in this country, it will only get worse, and they're not going to break into houses where they don't think they will find enough of value to make it worth it.
