A Vegan Mini-Mall Has Just Opened in Portland OR

There is a place where vegans can go and never have to worry about running across something derived from an animal: The world's first vegan mini-mall in Portland, Oregon.

So what do you think?

DougB 05-05-2015 06:09 PM

Golf cart accessible?

Probably not. It would be a long slow drive at 20 mph. I'll check with Villages GPS app to see if there is a cart path though.

I think you're about 8 years late my friend - opened in 2007!

Yea, but do you know if anything is processed or how much salt it contains?

Ok. I still found it to be interesting. Thanks for the factual correction.

I have no idea, Doc.

Good for them, but we don't need a Mini-Mall to be vegan. I'd like to see a vegan restaurant open in The Villages, one that serves truly healthy foods.
No baked goods made with white flour. No high sodium soups. No white flour pasta gooped-up with mayonnaise. No soda machine or ice cream machine.

Do you think there are enough vegans and people who occasionally enjoy vegan food to make such a restaurant successful.?

I'd go there but as far as going out, we only go out for breakfast about 3 or 4 times a week. I'd like to know what a vegan restaurant serves for breakfast.

I'm not a vegan so I will leave it to those who know to respond.

What is vegan about sausage, Canadian bacon and sausage gravy? If I had known you could eat that, I would be 100% vegan instead of 90%.

dbussone 05-07-2015 12:04 PM

I may have to reconsider my position if I get to have bacon.

Your Subway comment is a pile of turkey. Several are turkey based, but most meats are exactly what they say they are. See nutrition facts at the link below.

I just spent some time parsing the Sweet Tomatoes menu and ingredient list. The items that are vegan/vegetarian are specifically identified. The menu items that list meats, eggs, etc. have those ingredients in them.

Hmm. Probably not. My wife has talked about trying it several nights a week; our late Dad's would probably roll over in their graves. I want to live as long as I can in TV once I get there, but I AM A MEAT LOVER. :mmmm:

I agree as well. Unlikely to be enough folks who would be able to financially support such an enterprise. I am a carnivore also, although I certainly enjoy vegetables as well.

Please forgive me friends. I drank soy milk exclusively until almond milk. I eat tofu -- the sponge looking thing. Ginger tofu ice cream is good. But it's okay. I also ate a hamburger and fries for lunch today.
