Pool Tables in Club Houses
The brown cloth on the Pool tables is not ideal. It should be replaced with a green service cloth. Service cloth is a very durable cloth. With the brown cloth, you cannot get the action on the balls unless you shoot very hard, and then it's difficult. Something should be done about the jaws ( corners ) of the pockets. They are to restrictive. Maybe the billiard balls are not a good enough quality to get the proper action. Being there will be work done on the tables, have it done right.

Offer your suggestions to the district administrators. Maybe the national title holders that live and play and teach in TV never thought to mention the defects.

tables pool
ALL the pool tables in the rec centers are covered with Simonis cloth, this is the top of the line. Comes in various colors ,colors do not impact the roll the balls..The pockets width is concerning, aggravating most of the time, has to do with the cut of the pockets. These are really recreational tables..
the rec. dept are fully aware of the situation but have to appeal to the masses and the décor of the rec center...:cus:. |
Will take Brown or Green or Purple...

Simonis cloth is as good as it gets. The best color in my opinion is what is called "tournament blue"; the balls show up so much better on that color.

When the tables at La Hacienda were being recovered a man that I know who spent his life setting up and servicing pool tables met with the rec department people and showed them exactly what had to be done. I believe that he also offered to do the work at no cost.
He was told that these are only recreational tables and that it's not necessary to have them perfect. The best tables in The Villages, by the way, are the old crappy looking tables at the Silver Lake Rec Center. And I agree that the color of the cloth has nothing to do with anything. Excellent billiard table cloth is available in many colors. And as far a snooker tables go, yes, the pockets are smaller, but so are the balls. Also the corners of the pockets are rounded making the pockets more forgiving. |

What we need is a different mfg.,Brunswick or Diamond Tables, thats the only solution to this problem.:clap2:

I think there should be easels provided for use in all art rooms.
No I don't. |
Are there any snooker tables anywhere in The Villages? I miss that game and have not come across it in some time
|
Isn't this price to refelt per table almost double the average cost? I just researched briefly. And why only 1 bid? This doesn't sound on the up and up. Plenty of companies in Orlando would love to get the business. Anyone have any insight?

Truman (like the others) had its table recovered only to find a gash in the middle of the table with in weeks. (keep in mind the VARIETY of users at the rec centers- compared to controlled environment such as your house etc. The do vary in playability Canal street rec center has different play than others. All in all there is ample variety and billiards availability to be utilized . |
thet are all the same ,some a little less annoyiny than others ,but all in all they are very bad tables...

I've played seldom since prep school and only 3 times since I moved to TV. Since I'm not Fats Domino, or whoever that was, and neither are those who play billiards here, should we really be this fussy? If so, I would expect those special folks to pay for whatever they need. If you disagree please explain why TV shouldn't purchase a nice M-B S550 for me. |
That's Minnesota fats, and there are a few players of his caliber here,he was not a great player rather than a good showman..Since you are not a player you really cant know the difference between mfgs.:blahblahblah:

Tom - that's a good question. I don't know but I'm sure we have the right to demand one to our liking. Also I'm thinking that I want all pools filled with Poland Spring water. Would you agree? |

Pool theory. |
What he saying is pick the worse golf course and this be the standard for all gold courses. If you don't play pool at high level or play at all you really shouldn't be commenting or making your opinion on nothing you have clue about.
I find the tables well balanced, good cloth and Tight pockets. Even tighter on the snooker tables. For the novice, average, above average pool player (compared to 2 or 3 handicap golfer) these tables are challenging. Kinda like playing golf course with narrow fairways, lots of bunkers, and slopping green and you wonder why you can't score below 90? Now do you know what he trying to say. |

Better tables do not cost more money ,it has been documented that better equipment will cost less..villages pay top dollar for these poorly made tables..
All this has been expose to the rec. dept.all they care about is the Decor of the rooms... Lighting is terrible in most of the rooms..:spoken: |

If you think that the free equipment isn't up to par, buy one you like for your house. Why should the majority pay for the needs of the minority. We don't have pencil sharpener's in any of the art rooms. It would never occur to me to complain or lobby for change. |

Kinda like comparing Chula Vista (the short big pocket bar table) golf course to Lopez ( the 9 foot regulation table). |

Seems like the rec department tries to make things nice for everybody.

The Villages most knowledgable four or five players might want to get together with the Recration Department and make some suggestions mentioned in this Thread. From what I hear----they will be happy to work with you. :) |
these tables do not make you play better, actually they are a hindrance to you game.If the hole on the green is 2 in. that should make you play better,right..:bigbow:

[QUOTE=justjim;1066307]Okay Minnesota Fats, born and raised in Dowell, IL (about 75 miles north of Paducah, Ky.) and 25 miles (more or less) from my hometown. He was featured in the "Hustler" and played by Jackie Gleason. It's a classic.
New York Fats. born in New York City. He has taken several tag names until the movie came out. Took the name Minnesota Fats after the movie starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason came out. Here some truths about Minnesota Fats. I don't think anybody knows the hole truth. Rudolf Wanderone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

I could be. I understand you to say that you are not happy with the pool tables. I also think that they are north of 466 where some kind of process occurs that involves the folks who live there, which is different than how things work south of 466. You think that too much money is being spent on an inferior product to repair the pool tables. I get that you are an EXCELLENT pool player and are far more aware what is superior in a pool table and lighting. You think that less money could have been spent to get a better product on the pool table(s) of which you speak. You also favor another brand name for the tables which you find inferior. You say that the lighting is not good and more importance has been placed on how the lighting fits into the room than on it's functionality. Please feel free to point out my most major misconceptions. I am not much of a pool player but did own a pool table for years and watched a lot of pool being played at it. None of my friends are excellent pool players but I am married to a pretty decent golfer who never complains about the courses here and he has played on some courses of merit throughout the world. |
