Ticket prices at The Sharon
My daughter this past week attended an Amy Grant concert at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown,Ohio. This theater seats a little over a thousand people. They sat in the fifth row from the stage. The price of this ticket was $45.The price for a ticket at the Sharon for Amy Grant in the fifth row is $125.This brings up the obvious question-why so much more here?

Stambaugh Auditorium Reservations and Rental Hall Information I don't know the answer. Amy's cost divided by 1000 (The Sharon)plus profit compared to Amy's cost divided by 2250 (The Stambaugh) plus profit? |
I just checked on Stubhub.com and Amy's ticket prices are all over the place anywhere from $57 all the way up to $350. I guess it varies.

There is your answer.............................

I guess I was given wrong information on the seating capacity Gracie-forgive me-that may explain the price difference-The AAA auto club ran a bus trip to Lakeland to see the Million Dollar Quartet-The price of trip $100 included the concert ticket, the bus trip, and dinner. The top price for just the show at the Sharon is $100.I'm just pointing this out and making no judgements-Don't shoot the messenger.

think about who gets the money

Maybe they're trying to keep away ticket scalpers from TV

The events are sell outs. If you think ticket prices are too high then don't go. But remember the Sharon was built by private funds. No tax dollars used, no special assessments pushed on you. The developer put his money at risk and I feel he deserves to get a reasonable return for the cost of the building plus an operating profit.

I think Coach just attack the messenger-I never said I wouldn't go! If I like somebody enough I'll pay whatever the rate.

I corrected my original post of being wrong on the seating capacity of Stambaugh Auditorium.I never said anything about the "evil white Rich developer.I'm not a whining victim.I love it here and if I see something I want I buy it. I had my fact wrong and apologized and admitted it John W and Sunnyatlast.

How Much Does It Cost to Book Your Favorite Band? How Much Does It Cost to Book Your Favorite Band? | Variety
Read this. Its a real eye opener. |
A 1000 seat auditorium cannot attract and support big name or even some lesser known programs and do it at prices that will make the masses happy. This was much of the discussion when the origional plans were floated about a community owned performing arts center. Historic theatres in small towns accross the country have suffered from this problem for manny years since they were converted from essentially movie theatres. The only way to ower prices is by the way of sponsors for shows at $25000 and up for the lead sponsor or a public or private subsidy. In this case the developer has paid all capital costs ($millions) and I suspect has decided not to operate by subsidizing shows. The community was not willing to assume all costs and take the risks so the ticket prices will be relatively high. As always" The is no such thimg as a free lunch" In any case I am happy that we have a beautiful facility . I can almost guarantee that after considering( all in) costs. there will be No profit from the operation of the Sharon.

You know why he gets that? Because people will pay it. He's 82 and not Tony Bennett. He can hardly keep his head up. Remember when you were a kid and your dad could take you to see the Yankees or your local professional team without getting a loan? That's because Micky and Yogi weren't making all that much. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. |
Thanks Gracie for the kind words-you're the best !!!

Will Savannah Center still have shows or is it becoming a recreation center?

25 years ago we got Little Anthony for $6,000 for a free outdoor concert in Miami Beach. Easy money. It rained and he never had to leave his hotel. I never heard of most of the bands listed. |

As long as the place is selling out, ticket prices will remain higher. There are enough high income people living in the villages to spend $200.00 for a couple tickets and even at that price a person of moderate means will do it once in a while for a event he really wants to see. I love old rock and roll bands and paid $40.00 a ticket for turtles, grass roots, association, buckinghams , cousils, and mark Lindsay of paul revere and the raiders. Concert is june 20th at ruth eckardt hall in Clearwater. Just happens to be our 46th wedding anniversary that day.

The Turtles might be around for 140 years.

And I was thinking yesterday that these are the prices they probably charge for a private event like a wedding or bar mitzvah. There are people with enough discretionary income so money is no object. I'll bet the agents set up a tour knowing that the auditorium owners work with each other to guarantee the best return for the house, the artist and the agent. A five thousand seat auditorium probably cost 5,000 times as much as was spent redoing the Church on the Square. I don't know. big money, big risk |

These groups are some of my favorite groups.
I saw most in concert before and I wish we could get that type of entertainment for that price here! |

My first concert of any significance was Vanilla Fudge in 1968, right after they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. After the Beatles my favorite band back then was Grand Funk. I finally got to see them in 1998, the last time the original members toured together, Mark, Don & Mel. I also got to see 3 Dog Night the last time the 3 original members toured together in 1984, Chuck Negron, Cory Wells & Danny Hutton. I had a record collection of 4,000 albums before I moved to TV four years ago. They're gone now but I still have about 500 CD's, 300 concerts on DVD and XM/Sirius Radio in my car. I guess I'm a music junky. |

I listen to 99.6 quite a bit. They play older songs of a certain classic style. The Sharon is heavily advertised on that station and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if sooner or later the percentage of the audiences not living in The Villages will outnumber the locals.
Maybe some day they could charge a much higher price for a ticket for outsiders to somewhat subsidize the locals. Of course you would need to put caps in place for it to even out. |
