refrigerator
So ladies do you like your freezer on bottom type or the side by sides? Found one I loved today but was disappointed when we arrived back home and when I measured for the height it was an inch or to too tall to fit into the opening under the cabinet. Also many more stainless steels in Lowes now than there are white ones

I like the bottom freezer with two drawers. Have them check fridges come in different sizes
|
We have the LG w/bottom freezer and love it! The one we purchased we knew was going to be too tall by a half inch or so. My husband removed and raised the cabinet above the
refrigerator so it would fit and you can't even tell. |
My husband said he could remove cabinet over fridge also and raise it up a bit. However this would mean the cabinets would not line up. Do you think that would look strange? There are several cabinets on that wall and they all line up. So it would remain the same except the small cabinet over fridge would be higher? Opinions??

Recently put a side by side new refrigerator in the garage because I hate it. Bought a Samsung bottom freezer and I love it. So much easier to see what's in the refrigerator. The other freezer couldn't even hold a frozen pizza.

Hula - that sounds like something I might suggest to my wife. If I did, I would call a neighbor before I went to bed and ask them to check on me in the morning. |
Cabinets not lining up? No way! That would bug me and that is all I'd see every time I walked into my kitchen!
|
Maybe you can get your husband to raise all the upper cabinets?
|
No raising all of them would not work as one is directly over pantry so cannot have gap between pantry and upper cabinet. Why don't they make standard opening for fridges? Some are so large for the villages homes

in door ice/water poor design on french door
I've had to have my Samsung french door refrigerator with water/ice in the door repaired. Apparently it is not a good design and doesn't stay cold enough because the ice maker is in the refrigerator. Not long after having it repaired it was doing the same thing - water dripping out when using ice dispenser. It also takes up a lot of room in the refrigerator.
Otherwise I love the design because the refrigerator, which I access most often, is easily accessible and both sections accommodate wide items (trays, frozen pizza, etc.). If I had it to do again I would still get the french door style but without the dispenser in the door. |
Here is my experience and what I have learned. 7 yes ago we bought the freezer on bottom. For yes I loved it but then came to realize whenever I shopped I would come home, unload groceries and put freezer items on top, never using what was buried underneath. So now I may give the side by side a try. Still have this cabinet issue though and hate not being able to purchase the one I love because of height

Sorry for misspelled words. Because I am using iPad it will not let me abbreviate. Above post should be years not yes

We moved into a house once where our fridge that we brought with us was too tall. The Hubs was able to "shave" a bit off the bottom of the cabinet and one couldn't even tell that this had been done.

I recently bought all new appliances for our home. We bought a large LG with the freezer on the bottom and the refrigerator section on top. We love it. My wife hated our side by side as you could not even put a pizza in the freezer.
Here is the one we bought; LFXS32766S We like the following features; 1) the "door in a door". AWESOME ! Can't say enough good about it. 2) two ice makers. The one in the door does not take any space up in the refrigerator section. The strange thing is that it stays colder than our "old" freezer, but the ice cream stays perfect, never too hard or soft. Food seems to stay fresher longer. We found the best prices on these appliances seem to be around Thanksgiving. The list price for this is like $4k...but we bought this unit for well under $2k. As to the cabinet, billy is right that on a framed cabinet you might be able to take a bit off the bottom and it would not be noticeable at all. You could also perhaps replace the 15" high cabinet with a 12" high cabinet.....most folks hardly use that over the fridge cabinet anyway.... Hope that helps! Frank |
It is an LG I fell in love with too! Just not sure if I can get because of the height

Guy at Lowes told me White will soon be special order. |
The door in door I Love. Did you buy at Lowes?

We have a side-by-side refrigerator here in Michigan and I hate it. There isn't room in the refrigerator or freezer for large items. I don't know what we would do if it wasn't for the freezer in the garage or the small refrigerator in in our lower level kitchen. I can't wait to use our french door refrigerator in our TV home.
We had to raise a cabinet in our home on St. Augustine Beach so we could add a microwave over the stove. We hired an installer to do it. I'm pretty picky and you couldn't even tell the difference. |

I think they are phasing out white appliances. I just bought a new GE french door and had to get it in slate color SS because that model doesn't come in white
|
Went back to Lowes today for another measure. Will definitely have to have cabinet raised up to fit it in. We have a designer home and can only fit a 68 inch (hgt) in the space. Wonder if gardenia has larger space.
|
Oh boy. Hubby can't raise cabinet as he said the cabinet is glued to the one next to it. Guess the refrigerator I want is now out
