valet parking in the villages????

whaaaaaaa???? in Sumter landing between the movie theatre and city fire...VALET parking...thats insane in the villages???? NOW we have to pay to park???? what is going on ??? why in the world would the villages allow that???? anybody know????https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ilies/sing.gif

njbchbum 05-23-2015 10:50 AM

Have to pay to park? No - valet is optional. And as far as the Villages allowing it - they facilitated it. It helps those folks who cannot walk distances to use LSL entertainment/shops/restaurants rather than have to turn around and go home because of already filled handicapped spots.

karostay 05-23-2015 10:50 AM

How can some one for profit take over public parking spaces

You and I paid town taxes to create the public street parking

manaboutown 05-23-2015 10:54 AM

The streets may be public but aren't the parking lots owned/controlled by the developer?

As a matter of fact, The Villages requested a company to provide valet parking....seemed like a good idea to me...:22yikes:..by the way, you don't have to use it!!

gerryann 05-23-2015 11:22 AM

Annie01, If you are able to walk long distances and can park a distance away, that's fantastic!!! You most likely don't need valet parking. However, since this is a retirement community, there are many that need it. It's completely optional.

Chi-Town 05-23-2015 11:34 AM

Valet parking is a convenience to many and a necessity for others. Next time you walk a distance to get to a Square check the handicap spots. They are all taken and apparently legitimately so.

Seems Annie is one that wants to impose her will on TV residents....guess her opinion is the only one that counts. This subject has been beat to death in other strings and the bottom line is the same....if you don't want to use it then don't but for those that need to, or want to, get out of their business...your preferences do not over rule mine.

Annie. Go to the top of the page and go to search and find some of the several threads already about Valet Parking.

It's all good, Annie.

Got along without it since 1976 and can get along without it now!

gatherer47 05-23-2015 12:16 PM

newguyintv-you've gotten along without it since 1976 and can get along without it now-well that's great,I'm happy for you-but you don't speak for everybody in the Villages, some do need it and I for one am glad it's being provided for those who need it!

Fine for you but I would not be so quick to write off others. I'm happy you don't need it. I also know some who can use it and don't get to LSL often because of their disabilities.

CFrance 05-23-2015 12:56 PM

I think it's a good thing. I don't see how it impacts too strongly on people who don't need it. Maybe ten parking spaces. And if you can't walk ten parking spaces farther, maybe you need it too!

Steve & Deanna 05-23-2015 01:10 PM

Valet parking takes up twenty to twenty four golf cart spaces. It would seem to me that they could employ signage that would read GOLF CART HANDICAP ONLY NO CARS and save the residents a few bucks for the 'bait shacks' or a more generous tip for good service at one of the restaurants. Speaking of parking, it would be wise to ticket cars that try to squeeze into places where golf carts are already parked or to place a 'boot' on golf carts illegally parked.

I take that to mean Valet Parking annoys you. Twenty golf cart spaces are only ten parking spaces.

Many people have had joints replaced and need it temporarily. We all might need it temporarily for this or that and we have no handicap sticker.

There are always two sides to any issue.

WOW! That's a lot of changes.

4 parking spaces will NOT hold 20-24 golf carts.

GOLF CART HANDICAP ONLY NO CARS.....really? What makes you think we all drive golf carts????

What few bucks are you referring to? Did I miss someone handing out bucks??

Steve & Deanna 05-23-2015 01:28 PM

One car space will hold four golf carts when properly parked. I'm counting five to six 'auto' spaces reserved for golf carts. It's all in the math. The bucks I was talking about was that the $5 you spend for parking a cart, pass it on to an eatery. Sorry, I thought I made myself quite clear.

Sorry. Guess I misunderstood. Why are you paying for valet service if you don't want it????

This has been clearly explained by Bchbum and in other threads.
If no-one uses valet parking, the idea won't fly.
If people use valet parking, then clearly, it's a needed service.
I don't understand the indignation.
No-one is being forced to use Valet Parking -- IT'S OPTIONAL.

Remember in the 60's and they tried to see how many folks could fit in a phone booth?

I'd love to see you try to fit 20-24 golf carts in the 4 spaces that are being used for drop off and pick up.

Steve & Deanna 05-23-2015 01:49 PM

We do not use valet parking. My post was my opinion to say that our money could be used better elsewhere. Just came to me like a lightning bolt (ha,ha,ha) but why not park behind the LSL sales office and offer a stretch limo golf cart to bring those that need it back and forth?

Sure......

CFrance 05-23-2015 01:54 PM

There's no way to park four golf carts in one parking space without blocking two cars in, so that argument doesn't hold water. Again, if you can't walk the extra few parking spaces to accommodate, you should be happy to use valet parking.

Valet parking is everywhere. I'm glad to see this service come to our community, especially considering our age group.

Some people thought handicap parking spaces were an abomination too, back when they were first introduced.

JoMar 05-23-2015 04:10 PM

We're talking 5 bucks for a golf cart and 10 for a car....most people in the squares spend more than that on Happy Hour or dinner or a movie or any other number of things. It's not the National debt. For those that find that way too expensive, then park in a lot as you normally do and you won't be impacted. Just let everyone do what works for them.

manaboutown 05-23-2015 04:21 PM

Here is validation of my view of valet parking. I Used To Be A Valet And Will Never Let One Park My Car, Ever

Most normally park in the spots valley parking has taken away.

Becasue-- a number of Villagers are like the Faculty in a college.

One college President defined his Faculty for me as "A group of folks who believe otherwise" Rationality is not particularly relavent!

That is so true!

What the he**, they don't need to use valet parking, so they don't want anyone else to either?

IF YOU DONT WANT TO USE VALET PARKING........THEN DONT!!!!!!! Why do some of you think it's your right to deny a service to others that need it just because you don't!

I'd say GROW UP......but unfortunately, if you haven't by now, you never will.

I don't want to deny others and obviously have no right to do so since I do not own the lots. I never said that . By all means, valet away! I just will not use it myself because I know what can and does indeed happen when parking valets drive cars.

He's not denying anyone anything, just stating his opinion. Can't you understand that?

The suspicious complaining about the valet parking sounds like just one more bunch of people who have this dreaded, nagging fear that always.....

...there is someone, somehow, somewhere.....whose whole goal in life is to rip them off for $5 without which, they will not have anything to eat tomorrow and indefinitely.

News flash: Nobody's trying to rip you off!

One car space will also hold one car when properly parked. What makes you think that all of the "lost" spaces would be otherwise occupied by 4 properly parked golf carts? If there are 10, 20, 50+ folks who choose to use Valet parking, wouldn't that free up many more spaces than the few lost to the valet staging area?

Finally.....some intelligence!

It's funny how this "testing" of valet service, can bring out such nastiness in folks that would never use it anyway. BUT....it can be a Godsend to folks that have been unable to go to the squares due to an inability to walk.

Age and maturity should bring understanding and empathy.....but here in The Villages, it seems to work in reverse. Sad

Let's see if I've got this straight? Four Carts in a Valet Parking Space. Now they would have to leave the space behind and the space in front empty so that any of the golf carts can get out when they are ready to leave. Oh you say they can exit to the side which of course means you can't park any Cars there either. So, four carts take up either 3 or 4 parking spaces in order to ensure each of them can get out when they are ready. Another question, how does Valet parking help people who can't walk? Wouldn't their disability be just as problematic unless their final destination was the precise location as the Valet drop off point. Seems it would be simpler to be dropped off in front of the ultimate destination and have the driver park the car.
