I installed a radiant barrier on my garage door today.
 

Bought the Reflectix material at Lowe's along with double sided tape. Cut the panels to fit and installation was very easy. Left one panel bare initially to see the difference in heat coming thru to the touch; big difference in uncovered panel and covered one. Total cost for the 2 car door and golf cart door was about $95. Garage door faces west so it takes the brunt of the afternoon son.

I installed the insulation barrier on my garage door, which faces east, about 3 years ago and there is still a very noticeable temperature differential.

A good difference ?
Is the garage temperature noticeably lower ?
My opinion unless you insulate over the garage at the same time radiant heat would still be an issue from the attic space

I agree. I added attic fans and installed an overhead garage screen door and my garage is still very hot

Yes; used 6 pieces of double sided tape for the short panels and 8 for the long panels. Noticeable difference in garage temp.

I installed same in our garage a week ago. Ours faces direct east and that morning sun... yikes-could cook an egg on the inside of the door metal at 11am. Tried, but the egg kept sliding down.. I jest.

The radiant barrier (only about 1/4" thick) is double sided foil with air bubble plastic in between. I did not use the tape to adhere, was afraid it would unstick in the heat. And I bought a pack of 3/4" thick styrofoam panels at HD. Sliced them into 2" wide panels and constructive adhesive to each section of the inside door. Then cut the barrier to fit each area and construction-adhesived all over the styro and adhered the barrier to door sections. So now there is a 3/4" air pocket between the metal door and barrier. Had to jockey around the garage door windows (already covered in glass film).
DEFINITELY not as steamy in the garage now even at 12noon - I should have temped before/after, but... Whole job with styro, barrier and constuct adhesive tubes, about $110. SO worth it - and the door is very quiet open/close. Looks clean inside too.
Now we need to cook eggs in the kitchen...

anybody know if the outside wall of the garage was insulated when the homes were built?

If you have a wood framed house I would think the exterior walls of the garage were insulated. Above the garage, no. On a brick home garage walls are not insulated ,as a general rule.
