No Wine Club in TV?
I am surprised that there is no wine club in TV.
An in-home wine club is fun and makes for a great social event. The makeup of a wine club is simple. A good wine club consists of twelve couples. Each month a different couple will host a wine tasting party. The host gets to choose the type wine to be sampled (Merlot, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, etc.) Each couple brings a bottle of wine from the host's selection in a brown paper bag. Each bottle is numbered and the tasting begins. Each person rates each wine tasted from 1-10 and places their rating in a bowl with the number of the bottle they sampled. At the end of the tastings the host will add up the points to determine the winning bottle and the paper bags are removed from the bottles. Often couples bring the same brand of wine and it is fun to see the different ratings for the same wine. Usually the host couple will serve a desert at the end of the evening. It is a fun monthly experience. I was in a wine club in the Northern California wine country for ten years and always looked forward to our monthly wine club meeting. We are moving to TV in October and would love to form a wine club. No wines are sold, only tasted so TV should not object to such a club. Anyone interested in joining such a club please respond with a private message and we will put you on the list. Looking forward to our move to TV. And here I thought there were several - just not the home versions! Don't they meet nitely at the corner kiosks on the squares?
ducking and running ;) |
According to what he wrote in his book "Leisureville" Andrew Blechman found a wine club existed in The Villages: at least he wrote that he attended an organized wine tasting.

I don't know anything about the business, but I remember a winery opened a few months ago at Spanish Springs Square on Main St. The Corkscrew Winery
A wine vineyard opened in Wildwood a few months ago, http://www.winesofflorida.com/ Also in Clermont, about 25 miles south, Lakeridge Winery is the biggest in Florida. I've taken the tour and had their wine tasting. You can buy their wines in Publix and many other stores. http://www.lakeridgewinery.com/ |
I too am surprised that there is not any wine clubs. I thought that a chapter of "The American Wine Society" would flourish in The Villages.
I have been a member in other states and have found the organization very helpful. Have seen SKYPE meetings with Napa & Sonoma County Wine Makers and the meetings are a great way to meet people and learn about wine. American Wine Society |

Sounds like fun. We enjoy wine :) Be back in November! Please keep us informed.

We're not experts, and don't need expensive wine to enjoy it. If that's okay, we're interested too.
|
Just starting to bring down my wine glasses. Have glass for every veritable. Be down in October. Also have wine bags for blind tasting. If you really want blind tasting I have the black wine glasses for that too.

Oh, asianthree, I can not wait for you to get here!

Hope We Can Make It Work This Time
Many a person suggested a Wine Club many times on TOTV but never materialized. Hope this time some one will take the bull by the horn and make it work finally. Look forward to it when it materializes. Good luck.

I am willing to help get thing going only here for a month of October and first of November . A meet and greet would be a great start. Bring your fav wine with matching appetizer. Then set up from there. Having a all California night, Italy, France. Then move on to chards, cabs, sparkling, pino, sweet. Then under $15 and 2nd runs. And the 12th month a full blind taste, with bagged bottles and black glasses. Each couple bringing a bottle, appetizer, two glasses each month. Host should have a sealing system or club buy one for travel. (. I hate to throw away good wine). Then there is the road trip to winter park, to the wine room. They have up to 40 plus wines by the ounce, including $$$$$ like opus one.:a040: |

I am an Ambassador for Boisset Wine for in-home and special events wine tastings and have found that most of The Villagers prefer 3 buck chuck or whatever is on sale BOGO at the grocer. Good luck finding those who are willing to spent $20 on a better quality bottle of wine.

************************************************** ** I have meet those who appreciate good wine, in TV. sterling napa is my casual wine. For serious dinners, cakebread, silver oak, and in that price range is in my cellar. Nothing better then to open a good wine pour few ounces and go back to it every half hour to see how much it opens up. I have had the pleasure of sitting in classes and wine exams with 5 master sommelier. It's what a wine club is all about, experience and appreciate the finer points of a good wine. It's such a great pleasure to watch some one experience a good pairing. That's why I truly love going to the wine room in winter park. It opens up a whole new world. The best part is every master I have had the pleasure of making friends with are down to earth, and don't always need a $100 bottle of wine to enjoy at events. |

While I do appreciate fine wine (I studied it while a student at Cornell, and later at the Culinary Institute of America and as a long time member and officer of the Mid Hudson Food and Wine Society) I am less able to deal with the next-day side effects than I used to be and so rarely partake anymore. Although an occasional club event would be of interest to me as well. So add me to the list. -- bc |

We enjoy wine but are not very wine-knowledgeable. We would love to join your club.

Wine knowledge is not required

Since a different host is selected each month and the host chooses the type of wine to be sampled, you have an opportunity to try out a variety of different wines, local and out of state. We are bringing our California wine country collection with us when we move to the Villages in October. We look forward to trying Eastern and Southern wines too. |
Please add us to your list.
