Why - Big Price Difference between Walmart and Winn Dixie

Why does a jar of Kraft mayo cost $5.98 at Winn Dixie and only $2.98 at Wal Mart.

dbussone 06-03-2015 02:45 PM

Why do you buy Kraft? Everyone knows Hellmans tastes better. Even their commercials say so.

rubicon 06-03-2015 02:46 PM

No Dukes

Agree with Rubicon on this one.
One reason Why is WD is higher than anybody on most everything...but that is a large gap!

justjim 06-03-2015 02:59 PM

It's bigger

Well there you go! That problem is solved. Now can we go back to my question about Dukes please. ::jester::

gomoho 06-03-2015 03:01 PM

cause they can?

Sandtrap328 06-03-2015 03:30 PM

I have stopped shopping at Winn-Dixie for a couple of reasons.

First, in order to get ANY of their advertised specials, you need their shopper card with you.

Another reason is that if they gave "buy two at --" , you have to buy two of them. At Publix, you can buy one at half the special price of two. I always do not need or want two of something.

Give me Publix anyday!!!

anaug67171 06-03-2015 03:35 PM

Winn Dixie has no cache seems like it was just thrown
Together! I am back home in
Scarsdale and the stores
Have style!!

Yes! We were solid Hellman's fans forever till we found Dukes. I was looking for low-sugar recipes and read about Dukes on a recipe web site. It's wonderful. Try a small jar of it. We liked it so much we mail-ordered it to MI back before we moved (free shipping).

There's no sugar in it.

You don't have to present the card. I have an electronic version on my smart phone. My wife uses my cell number associated with the card. If I buy 1 of a 2fer, I get the same deal as Publix AND I get fuel perks. Right now I qualify for $0.70 off per gallon of the diesel I use in our cars. I like Publix, but I have saved money since I switched to WD, and been pleased with their product.

Pubiclix (yes I miss spelled intentionlly) just as outrageous as WD on prices. Matter fact all groceries are higher this year and in land of milk and honey! Wait
till the egg and chicken crisis hits? Wally World and Aldis has them both beat!
Haven't tried Target yet never think of going there.

On average we have experienced a 100% increase on groceries, especially meat and produce, in this country since 2008. I can't explain why the gov't hasn't picked this up in the cost of living. Maybe they believe food is no longer required for everyday life.

justjim 06-03-2015 04:01 PM

Good reasons

Both good reasons, especially, the card. If I was Emperor, all shopping cards would be illegal and also all coupons. Just sell the items at the lowest possible price.

Anybody know what Useful data could be collected by the use of that shopping card? :read:

There are always alternatives. NE and Boston have "beautiful" stores as well. But I prefer FL so I will stay here and enjoy WD, Publix, Fresh Market, etc. if I feel really hard up (which I won't) I'll go to The Meat Market in Orlando or any number of many other places between here and Orlando with excellent meats, fish, and produce. Cache is just that cache - worthless but a justification for beautiful & stylish prices.

karostay 06-03-2015 06:07 PM

You need the card to pay for what you would normally pay at any other store
They make a big deal you just saved $$$$$

No you didn't rip me off as and bad and the public falls for it

Without using my card, and comparing prices, I found WD to be less expensive. I tracked prices for purchases for about 2 months before I requested a card. Most of our purchases are for produce, certain meats, and some tonic (sodas). I tend to buy bulk products at Sams.

redwitch 06-03-2015 06:19 PM

If you don't have a card, WD checkers will use the store card, just ask.

And Duke's is definitely better than Hellsman, or any other mayo sold around here.

Happinow 06-03-2015 06:24 PM

Actually, you don't have to have your card with you.....just give them the phone number the card is registered under and you can get the discount!

Ok. I will give Duke's a try.

PammyJ 06-03-2015 06:51 PM

Dukes is great! Really good in pasta salads! It tastes like mayo with a bit of Miracle Whip mixed in.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 06-03-2015 07:16 PM

I think that it's because Winn Dixie charges more.

virgind 06-03-2015 07:54 PM

Why do you shop at W D or Walmart when you can go to Aldi or Save A lot get the same quality for much less. And why do you have that car insurance.

Where is Scarsdale and what is Cache'? And the answer is Hellmanns.

Wandatime 06-03-2015 08:21 PM

Oh, boo. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with Graciegirl on this one. Duke's is the Secret to Southern Cooking. There is no sugar in Duke's like there is in Hellman's. Hellman's is salad dressing. Duke's is Mayonnaise with a capital M. Sorry, Graciegirl. Let's do lunch soon!

Cisco Kid 06-04-2015 05:30 AM

I like peanut butter.

I was thinking the same thing. At my house, The usual bunch?

Did you know German descendants put sugar in their slaw and in their potato salad and in their red tomato spaghetti sauce?

I am now a southern woman of German descent. Maybe if I bought Duke's and put a teaspoon of sugar in it................

:agree:

Dukes! Dukes! Dukes! Better at any price.

Chatbrat 06-04-2015 06:34 AM

Walmart is so huge they dictate prices to their suppliers

Villager Joyce 06-04-2015 06:38 AM

I'm not siding with anyone. I am stating from the food wrapper: Hellmann's Light Mayonnaise has <1g of sugar. On second thought I would like to side with Cisco Kid. I like peanut butter, but only Jif crunchy.

You are right. They have a BIG pencil and enormous buying power. If you can sell your product to them, you do it pretty much their way and on their terms and their price.

That is why I shop there for a number of things. They are just plain cheaper..

DougB 06-04-2015 06:50 AM

Mayo is mayo. Don't really care what brand it is.

wudda1955 06-04-2015 06:55 AM

Walmart has stores all around the country (world?). They can buy from the manufacturer in larger quantities. Larger quantities, lower price, which they pass on to their customer. Winn-Dixie is a considerably smaller franchise and they can't get the same deals from the manufacturer.

Sounds wonderful! I have heard tales about the Germans and their love of sugar. Many years ago I had a German friend serve me a wonderful cucumber dish made with mayonnaise or sour cream, I don't know which, vinegar and sugar. It was wonderful and I can not seem to replicate it. Maybe because I'm using Dukes, LOL!

That explains my husband, then. He's of German descent and, I swear, he is addicted to sugar!

Yes! Peanut butter is better than Dukes, which is better than Hellmans, but not in egg salad.:loco:
