Taking Dog Along on Golf Course

Looks like it is now allowed to take your dog with you when you go golfing!
We were signing in to golf this afternoon on Churchill when we saw a white
Par Car with an Australian Shepard dog in the cart. I mentioned it to the
starter and he responded the guy didn't mention the dog but he also saw it
when they pulled up to the first hole. Didn't stop the guy! We were behind
the group with the dog and could see the dog on the greens! When the
Ambassador came along all he said was they aren't "supposed" to have dogs
with them but it looks like a really nice dog and it is in the cart. NO I told him
it hasn't been staying in the cart. It did not have on any service dog type vest
and the Ambassador and the Starter when I asked didn't know either. Also
the guy with the dog was golfing in his bare feet...no shoes or socks!
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it but I sure don't like it!

Wow.

Boy Howdy!

You should have taken pictures with your phone and forwarded them to the director of golf. Told him what course and the time. I think the starter and the ambassadors have NO power to eject anyone, but they can call for back up.

I love furries but there is a time and a place for them. The bare feet are so not what golf is about.

My cat Mikey just read this and he is GLARING AT ME. You don't want HIM on a golf course. He isn't always a gentleman.

Sanibel7 06-05-2015 07:04 PM

They should have charged the dog the Visitors rate for being on the course! I bet the puppy did not have a Villages ID..

blueeagle65 06-05-2015 07:07 PM

Unacceptable behavior all around!

Greg Nelson 06-05-2015 07:21 PM

Is this TV??

Happy Villager 1 06-05-2015 07:59 PM

Greg the Villages has 99% great people but the other 1% leave a lot to be desired!
Gracie I can't believe the Starter and Ambassador's don't have some kind of authority.
When my daughter-in-law was visiting the Starter wouldn't let her on the course to
golf because the straps on her top weren't wide enough. My husband had a jacket
in the cart that she had to wear and it was a hot day!

kcrazorbackfan 06-05-2015 08:32 PM

Doesn't sound like you're a happy villager tonight. I wonder now since this has been posted and dog owners realize that nothing was done about it, how many pets will be out there?

Dogs I could put up with, if their well behaved. No shoes? What's next, "wife beater" tee shirts and shorts/pants with holes?

hulahips 06-05-2015 08:54 PM

I saw 4 dogs in Lowes the other day

D&Lsunfun 06-05-2015 09:03 PM

We were golfing at Redfish at 645pm and a lady was walking 2 large dogs through the golf course. Not on the cart paths, just walking on the fairways. Today on Southern Star, we got out of the golf cart and found a pile of poop as we were walking to the green.
Why would you want your dog walking on the golf course with all the chemicals?
What happen to the responsible dog owner?

ditka41 06-05-2015 09:09 PM

Even though pets should absolutely NOT be on a golf course, you may have still been fortunate. None other than the great "Jimmie Mac" golfs bare-foot now, just as he always did back in the mid-80's with the Chicago Bears. That's been awhile, so maybe you didn't recognize him? Jim took a lot of hits to the head, and he shows some of the effects of that now, but he can't be goofy enough to take a dog golfing. Sad to think he may have gotten so pitiful that he'd need a doggie to snuggle with in his golf cart.

tomwed 06-05-2015 09:11 PM

Maybe he helps him with the dog legs.

kaydee 06-05-2015 09:17 PM

absolutely ridiculous & unacceptable. This idiot should not have been allowed to tee off.

LndLocked 06-05-2015 09:17 PM

Dogs on the course are one thing .... but why would anyone care if someone golfed bare foot??? What possible harm is their in that??

patfla06 06-05-2015 09:26 PM

Just when you think you've seen everything.....:ohdear:

NYGUY 06-05-2015 09:30 PM

I have seen a dog on a course as well (I think it was Yankee Clipper). I think Starters/Ambassadors should be instructed/reinstructed how to handle these situations as we were told only service dogs were allowed.

It is very possible that the pile of poop you saw at Southern Star was not from a dog. There are quite a few coyotes in The Villages and it very well might have been from one of them.

Are the courses still open at 645 pm? If so, you definitely should have used your cell phone and called the course starter shack. The score cards all have the numbers on them. They would have sent the ambassador to get the dog walking lady off the course.

Colts Fan 06-05-2015 09:59 PM

According to The Good Golf Guide:

"• Shoes must be worn at all times when on the golf courses. Tennis or golf shoes with soft spikes, or shoes with no more than a 1-inch heel, are mandatory."

The favorite TOTV word association always kicks in, so that when the word dog appears, someone will follow with the word poop!

sunnyatlast 06-05-2015 10:08 PM

I like the dogs better than such arrogant owners who think they are above rules and norms of conduct.

justjim 06-05-2015 10:21 PM

Funny

:1rotfl: Very funny! However the dog and a barefoot golfer not so funny! Not funny at all that the Ambassador didn't address this situation.

Ambassadors should have the right to ask anyone with a dog to immediately leave the golf course. Ridiculous behavior. :rant-rave:
I've seen coyotes on Churchill Greens during the day. The poop you spotted may be coyote poop.

jnieman 06-05-2015 10:43 PM

We played Southern Star this evening and there was a couple walking their dog along the cart path. I had just hit and when I drove up they had to pull their dog away as he tried to fetch my ball.

sunnyatlast 06-05-2015 10:58 PM

From the Good Golf Guide of The Villages:

"• Pets are not permitted on the course or riding in golf cars."

"• Spectators under the age of 10 are not permitted."

Would you soak your feet in a solution of pesticides and fertilizer
With the amounts of chemicals applied all most weekly I wouldn't think it could be a healthy practice

No harm.

Some things are just not classy in some places. It is kinda like knowing what fork to use.

Some of us are golf snobs. And proud of it.

I will until my dying day look down my nose at anyone bare footed on a golf course.

I would still save them from alligators if I had to.
.

jnieman 06-06-2015 07:06 AM

Maybe the person forgot his golf shoes. My husband took off for golf one day and realized once he got to the course that he had on his flip flops. He had to golf 18 holes in flip flops. Not easy to do.

Lowes and Home Depot both welcome dogs. I was surprised to find that out but learned about while living in another state.

DonH57 06-06-2015 07:23 AM

I told our dog don't even think you are playing golf. I don't have money for a custom set of clubs and he'd have to clean up his language.

Very good. Now flush the urinal, go outside, and tee off.

redwitch 06-06-2015 07:48 AM

So, if the dog picked the ball up and dropped it in the hole, would that be a hole in one?

This is America's most golfy home town too.

Collared shirt. Golf shoes. Bag with head covers of animals including dogs, but no real dogs.

I say to you that anyone who is barefooted on a golf course is gonna get stung by fire ants and looked down on by real golfers.

It is kinda like showing up to play tennis in an evening gown and using a ping pong paddle.

People are gonna LOOK at you funny.

Golden Years 06-06-2015 08:36 AM

Right now the message from corporate offices is get more out of what you have. I think it was a stroke genius making the golf course dual purpose. Golf course - dog park. If that pans out maybe they can add things like gardening, camp ground, 4 wheeler track or maybe a petting zoo

Oh Lord.

Welcome to the forum Golden Years.

You are gonna like it here and I am pretty sure we are gonna like you.

I hope he is kidding.

justjim 06-06-2015 09:09 AM

Show some golf etiquette

:agree: Golf is a bit different sport. For one, you referee yourself. Etiquette is an important part of the game. No shoes is a definite no no and I'm disappointed that the Ambassador/Starter didn't send him for a pair before he could hit his first ball on our course.

We are really very liberal allowing denim on our courses. The dog doesn't even deserve a comment. Fore!

ajbrown 06-06-2015 09:27 AM

For as long as I can remember, when you say bare foot golf, one name comes to MY mind. Would have been my great privilege to watch him play without shoes.

Never mind...I thought the thread was "Talking Dog on Golf Course"

IMO a talking dog should be allowed wherever it wants as long as it is respectful... :icon_wink:
