friend request

I just got a friend request from "balloons by laurie".
Anybody know anything about this? Could be a computer hacker???????

Villager Joyce 06-16-2015 09:22 AM

I received an invite as well. I declined.

CathyandSteveG 06-16-2015 09:25 AM

i got one too and accepted...is that dangerous or something?

graciegirl 06-16-2015 09:37 AM

I got one too. She is an advertiser.

If this is true - she is an advertiser - I consider this to be intrusive behavior. It should be prohibited by the owners of this site. Businesses may pay to display their ads, but to make unsolicited friend requests goes too far, in my opinion.

Bonny 06-16-2015 10:31 AM

I went ahead and accepted her friend request.

I think anyone can send a friend request, advertiser or not.
I don't find that intrusive. The recipient of the request is free to accept (like Bonny) or to decline (like V. Joyce).

CathyandSteveG 06-16-2015 11:39 AM

Being "friends" with someone really does not have a lot of meaning does it? I mean it really doesn't affect you one way or the other....and like barefoot said...you have the right and ability to accept or deny.

Don't sweat the small stuff.....life is too short.

Laurie2 06-16-2015 12:06 PM

Just so you know........I am not the Laurie of the balloons. I am merely Laurie2. I never could be in the business of balloons. I startle easily.

I agree that being "friends" with someone really doesn't have a lot of meaning.
Not like Facebook where they get access to details and photo's of your life.
Nevertheless, I think it's nice to send a friendship request to people you think you would like to know in real life.

Pa & Giggi 06-17-2015 06:01 AM

We declined as imagined the slew of messages that will follow in an advertisement campaign for sales and special occasions. We get enough spam in our e-mails, we don't need any in our talk of the villages account.
Anyhow, that is why we declined. We just felt there is an ulterior motive of an ad campaign.

graciegirl 06-17-2015 06:13 AM

I wonder how anyone can send a LOT of messages at once? I can only message two people at once.

I just don't like advertisers to try to befriend me. Some are very deserving and nice people after you get to know them...but..

Jimbo120 06-17-2015 06:18 AM

if you have to ask , why friend?

I don't understand why people feel a need to friend someone they Don,t know. My rule is never do that. In this case I might say yes just to keep up with trending balloon colors and get valuable coupons for my weekly balloon buying trips!
More people need a plan for how to control their Facebook account. Friending someone gives them access to more of your personal information.

Bay Kid 06-17-2015 06:31 AM

Darn...I got an invite and I thought she was interested in me....

It's not a "need", it's a way of connecting and paying a compliment.
For me, it's a way of saying "I like your comments and personality on TOTV".

CathyandSteveG 06-17-2015 03:25 PM

Barefoot...I agree. I only have a couple of friends and i was flattered they asked me. Even the balloon lady...
I have had no e mails from her...no solicitation from her....

My goodness what does it hurt....if you friend someone and they begin to annoy you ...you can always break the friendship.

This year it's free to be be the balloon ladies friend. You watch, next year it will cost a dollar. That's inflation.

I thought when you blow up a balloon, that's inflation------but-----

When you blow up a bridge, that's a felony......:22yikes::22yikes:

I believe too many of you have been corrupted by Mr. Rogers Neighborhood

"Do you want to be my friend"

graciegirl 06-18-2015 05:34 AM

Bare is right as usual. Asking someone to be your friend on TOTV usually means that you like their posts and agree with their views and enjoy their humor and personality.

BUT sometimes it leads to face to face, and very delightful real friendships. I am so fortunate that has happened to me.

Villager Joyce 06-18-2015 06:58 AM

I'm good. Thank you for your heartfeit apology And explanation.
