R.I.P. Little Bear

1 Attachment(s)
Visitors to TOTV over the past 3 years might remember when my husband and I "adopted" a then, 12 year old Yorkie "Little Bear" who was featured on TOTV as needing a forever home.
We were blessed to enjoy his love and affection for 3 years, but he peacefully passed away today. What a gift to us, the little guy was, and we will enjoy seeing him again in Heaven.

graciegirl 06-19-2015 03:49 PM

I am so sad to hear of his passing. He was so fortunate to be loved by both of you.

Boudicca 06-19-2015 03:52 PM

Thank you, Gracie.

Yes, I remember Little Bear. So sorry to hear of your loss. He was so lucky to have you.

redwitch 06-19-2015 04:05 PM

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I do remember your joy when he became part of your family. I'm so glad he found love and comfort. What a wonderful gift he have to you and you to him. Blessings.

Patty55 06-19-2015 04:13 PM

I'm so sorry to hear this, I remember when you adopted him (or maybe he adopted you). Over the years I loved reading the Little Bear updates and the pictures you posted. He sure was a character, you'll be seeing him again.

Boudicca 06-19-2015 04:31 PM

Thank you all, for your kind, sweet and generous words. Such a comfort. I know Bear was "only a pet", but he was in fact, a real member of our family.

Villager Joyce 06-19-2015 04:41 PM

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. All of who have been there know our babies were not just pets. Sounds like he found a darn good forever home. Peace be with you.

GeoGeo 06-19-2015 04:50 PM

So very sorry for your loss. Some people don't understand how we can feel about animals. They are just like children. You both were very blessed to have spent the past 3 years together. He will waiting for you.

gerryann 06-19-2015 05:06 PM

Awwww, poor Bear. He was lucky to have you!! Sorry :(

Trayderjoe 06-19-2015 05:37 PM

I too am sorry to hear of your loss and wish Bear the best playing with our friends who preceded him.

I remember well when you adopted Little Bear.
I really admired you for giving a forever to home to a 12 year old Yorkie.
Has it been three years already? Does anyone else notice how quickly the years are flying by?
Please be comforted by the fact that you gave Bear unconditional love during his final three years.
You will miss him, but you will see him again on the other side.
Bless you.

We went through that last year with Sport but got lucky and picked up Beau at Max's Pet Connection at Pet Smart five days after that. They are there every Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 2 PM as far as I know. Home

And there was a woman who rescued Yorkies for some organization here in Florida who lived in Glennview. She was high up in the organization chart. She used to be a neighbor of a friend I have from Doggie Doo Run Run who moved back north for a while but he is a Facebook friend.

Just some ideas as you grieve.

Boudicca 06-20-2015 06:28 AM

Thank you all, for your kind and comforting words and advice. We are still too sad and shedding tears to think about another pet any time soon. Our other dog, "Meg" stopped looking for Bear, but has taken to her bed with her face to the wall :( This will pass, and we are making sure she's not neglected while we grieve.

goldseekur 06-20-2015 06:28 AM

Sorry to hear about Little Bear. Know that it was a great thing you did adopting him and giving him so much love for those 3 years. Know in your heart you made his last years very happy.

CFrance 06-20-2015 07:29 AM

So sad for you, Shrandell. I know what a big hole that leaves in your heart. It takes courage to adopt an older pet, knowing it will not be with you for very long. How fortunate for Little Bear to have landed with you. Blessings.

Laurie2 06-20-2015 07:42 AM

shrandell, I am so sorry.

Those pictures you shared here recently, showing your little guy commandeering the big dog's bed were so much fun to see. He must have given you and yours so many moments of joy. Spunk and Spirit and Laughs and Lots of Love all wrapped up in that tiny, adorable package.

Thank you for sharing your home with an older dog.

Oh my goodness, I must admit that I am sadly smiling, remembering those pictures. I cannot help wondering if in Doggie Heaven, there is now some really confused Great Dane or St. Bernard or maybe even a Mastiff looking for a new bed.

OM goodness, you brought a smile through my tears. I am overwhelmed by the kind and sweet comments busy people are taking the time to post. What a great place we live in. Thank you all, so very much,

duffysmom 06-20-2015 09:27 AM

I also remember when you adopted Little Bear and I have had a soft spot in my heart for you ever since. Not everyone would open their hearts and home to an elderly dog. I feel your pain. My Duffy has been gone for a while now but sometimes I feel his little warm body in my lap.

Boudicca 06-20-2015 09:41 AM

Wish we had a "like" icon to click on. So many sweet messages being sent my way. We've spent the day in a frenzy of cleaning to stay busy. :(

parthree 06-20-2015 09:50 AM

This is always so hard. They steal our hearts, bless us everyday with the companionship and so much love, and then they leave us. Although Little Bear has crossed that bridge, he will remain in your memory forever.

kcrazorbackfan 06-20-2015 12:01 PM

So sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved rescued shih-Tzu, Sable, two years ago next month, and it's still tough when I hear of a person losing their pet. All pets are special to most people, and we have two rescues now that are everything to us, but she's the one that broke my heart when she passed.

Boudicca 06-20-2015 12:27 PM

Our remaining pet Meg is also a rescue - she's 12 and still looking for Bear - sigh

patfla06 06-21-2015 02:44 PM

I am so sorry for your loss.
Just think of how happy you made Bear his last years.

John_W 06-21-2015 02:53 PM

What you did, I never could do. We lost our 12 year old cocker spaniel "Gypsy" in 2009 to cancer, and I felt like 12 was not long enough. To adopt a dog knowing they have so few years left would be very hard for me. That's one reason we have not gotten another dog since then. I've never had children and always had a dog until now, they were my children. You were certainly great for giving Bear a few good years. Thank You.

jojo 06-21-2015 03:24 PM

I too am sorry for your loss and recall your stories about Little Bear. We adopted Olivia last fall from a posting on TOTV and feel so blessed. There are so many pets that need forever homes.

Boudicca 06-21-2015 04:11 PM

It was an easy decision to adopt Little Bear, when he came to our house for an adoptiion "interview"..It was actually Mike and I, and our other recue, Meg, who were hoping to pass muster:) He was such a cute, smart, and fun little dog that it was a "no brainer" to hope we passed the test. Its way too soon to contemplate a similar adoption as we are so very sad. However, as many of you have posted, Bear had three good years with us, filled with advenures and photo op moments. Those happy memories are sustaining us right now.

Love2cruise 06-21-2015 06:18 PM

My heart aches for you. it is never easy. I am glad for you both that he died peacefully:(

KathieI 06-21-2015 07:19 PM

I am so sorry for your loss. Little Bear was adorable and had a wonderful life with you that he might not have had if you hadn't been there to adopt him. They really get to you, don't they? Even a beautiful gold fish I had many years ago, I mourned for months after her passing.

I am also facing this problem probably sooner than I want to admit. My Sam is going to be 11 and although its still young for a schnauzer, he had some serious health issues in the past 3 years so I consider every additional day a blessing. However, his "sister" Maggie Mae will be devastated. She adores him and follows him everywhere. I'm already planning that I will have to get another dog for her, never mind me.

Very sad, my deepest condolences. KathieI

Boudicca 06-21-2015 07:50 PM

Kathiel I feel your pain. It's a fact that in our younger lives we would outlive our pets. Now that we are senior we hesitate to get a young pet as it might outlive us ...

tainsley 06-21-2015 08:00 PM

Sorry for your loss 😞

Phanatic Luvr 06-21-2015 08:09 PM

Shandrall, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Know that Little Bear had a great home and family for his last three years of life. Have you been in touch with Denise to let her know? I have lost contact with her.

Boudicca 06-21-2015 08:13 PM

I lost contact with Denise too :(

Loudoll 06-21-2015 09:09 PM

So sorry....
