Have to come down to The Villages for a couple of days. Wanted to use airport shuttle instead of renting a car. Looking for recommendations.

Hopefully you have transportation within The Villages. The Villages Transportation tel number 1-877-255-8756. I believe cost is $35 / person from Orlando MCO to The Villages.

I have used Vinni's car service a number of times. He lives in The Villages, picks you up or drops you off at your house, always on time and is very reasonable.

If I remember Villages Transportation is not 24hr which could play a decision depending on your inbound time.

When you make your reservation, just let them know that you'll need a Villages cab to take you home and one will be waiting at the terminal where your bus drops you off. It's $5 or $10 not sure. They have added new times. Here's the schedule and the website. Also looks like they pick up from home now by looking at this schedule. So you may want to ask on that. They don't always do that but maybe they are doing it now.

Another excellent and reliable choice is the Village Airport Van. We have used them previously and have them booked for a future need as well. Their advantage is that they pick you up and/or return you to your Village address - no need for a taxi to take you that last mile(s). Cost is $40 one way.

Downside is that, depending on where you live, you might need to ride as they drop off others in the van.

We also have used The Village Airport Van, which goes to both airports, and it does pick you up and bring you back to your front door. No problems.

I assume by "Ouch!" that you are traveling alone, in which case one of the van/bus services will be half the price of a private car service

I used this in October. Great service Cheaper than the "other" if you need door to door.

I just recently used The Village Airport Van very convenient no hassle right to your door service. You're in company of other traveling villagers. Highly recommend!

The Village Airport Van is fine IF you have no one to pick you up at Lake Sumter Landing. Chances you will be on the van for quite a bit longer than The Villages Shuttle (i hour or more longer) due to dropoffs of other passengers.

We have used The Village Airport Van (see link in previous posting) several times also, as they go to both airports. No problems, friendly, knowledgeable drivers. Door to door service. Will use them again.

Too bad renting a car is not an option. I have been watching MCO rentals and have seen some as low as $8/day lately.

We usually use the "Villages Airport Van", but we were very disappointed on our last ride home from the airport. The van was waiting for us and for 8 other customers. We were packed in like sardines. Took 1 1/2 hours to leave the airport, and another 1 1/2 to get home. We had 2 stops prior to getting to the Villages. One stop was in Plantation off of Hwy 27 (way out of the way). I'm so glad we were the 2nd drop off in the Villages. Felt sorry for the folks that had to travel to the northern end of the villages.

I was searching for something else and happened to come across this recommendation for Don Reid for airport transportation. I completely disagree! He once literally left me stranded at the airport—he just walked away and left me there!

Fortunately I was able to reach Village Van Service, and they were able to put me on their next van. We not only will never use him again, we share this story every opportunity airport transportation service comes up.

I should add too that all he did while riding with him was bad-mouth Village Van Service. Competition is one thing; bad-mouthing is inappropriate. I learned only later that he had stood up a friend who had booked with him to go the airport, claiming that the friend had the wrong date. Wrong!

Our experience was not optimal with the Villages Airport Van. We took a redeye from out West and went to the pickup point at OIA..no Van..in fact, no Van for more than an hour and they advertise that they will be there when you are...didn't happen. So, we won't ever use them again.
