Beware the Booths
met a friend for sunday dinner today at a very nice place which shall be nameless but almost broke my neck when i stepped out of the booth, which i had forgotten or maybe never noticed was about eight inces above the floor. fortunately my guardian angels must have turned me around so i landed on my well padded bum and was able to keep my head from hitting the adjacent chairs and tables. the manager was very nice and i don't think i have any permanent damage other than a huge bruise and a bruised ego from falling down with a dress on in front of the entire restaurant :) but the point is please be aware when you choose a booth that they are sometimes up high and don't end up embarrassed on the floor as i did!

Because your post was not negative, I dnot think it would hurt to name the restaurant as part of your Public Service Announcement.
|
I am relieved that you are not seriously hurt. Hugs.

Glad to hear you are OK Chax3 and only a little embarrassed. I eat at a restaurant which is pretty darn dark inside and it has raised booths, up at least 8" from the floor. I am quite cautious exiting them.
|
I do not see where the booth is responsible for this??
Folks should be aware of their surroundings, always, so they do not hurt/embarrass themselves. Glad you are ok. |
Glad you're OK. Not to worry, we all embarrass ourselves at one time or another.

Beware the booths
I know just what your talking about, I was eating at codys the other night and if my husband did not remind me about the step down I would have looked just like you did. Glad you were not hurt but it can easily happen.

There are at least 3 that have these step-up booths. Cody's, Bone Fish and the new Tavern where TGIFriday's used to be. I'm a klutz and they all make me extra cautious. Glad you didn't suffer more serious injuries.

I took a header in a Disney bus once because I forgot we went up stairs to get to our seat. Now My husband sits on the Outside of anything with even one step because he Knows I'll be talking and/or looking in any direction other than where I'm headed.

Applebee's
Back where I used to live, my sister was eating at a booth at Applebee's. She forgot the booth had a step down and she fell. Could have been serious as she has MS and it's difficult for her to ambulated at times anyway. She had a huge bruise on her leg that became pretty painful. Those step up booths should not be in restaurants. It's easy to forget they are different than most booths and an accident waiting to happen.

When I have been seated at a raised booth in a restaurant, I am always aware of that height because the seating arrangement in relation to the restaurant floor is obvious. Wouldn't the height of your wait person when they bring the check remind you that you are higher? Patrons walking past? People at the next booth stepping down to exit?
Just sayin..... |
also Outback.......I fall out of the booth every time...

i certainly am not suggesting that booths should be illegal, and purposely did not name the restaurant because an accident is no one's fault. just trying to remind others to be careful...by the way, i probably would have forgotten my doggie bag, too! :)

Don't some of these restaurants have a plate at the front edge of the booth telling you to watch your step? I know Logan's does.

I'm glad to hear you're ok too.
I don't like booths or high chairs. I think their purpose is to squeeze more seats in an area and accommodate the serer not the patron. I also hate [hate is too strong a word] asking others to get up so I can get out and visa versa. I think Daryl's has the right idea when it comes to seating in a retirement community. Their counter is low and everyone has their own chair. I think that's one of the reasons they are packed all the time. |
Chili's booths also have a step up.

went to sweet tomatoes the other day and was happy to note that their booths are at floor level! i think all booths should be that way whenever possible. the best of both worlds.
