Garage door opener won't fit on our visor.
 

We must not be the only people in The Villages who drive a Prius and have trouble with the garage door opener not fitting.

The visor is too thick and the clip for the garage door opener does not adjust. We squeeze it on there and as soon as we lower or raise the visor if promptly falls off and rolls under the seat. Very frustrating.

I would love some suggestions on how to deal with this situation.

I have the same problem, however, my Honda has a cup holder on the dashboard just to the left of the steering wheel by the driver's window. I put my garage door opener and gate pass in the cup holder, very convenient.

Go to Advance Auto and buy a visor organizer It attaches to your visor with Velcro or elastic straps, has pockets. and you're sure to find a place to attach your opener

ooops--I misunderstood the problem.

For what it's worth I squished the clip on my remote soon after I got it. I remember taking apart the remote to reomove the spring clip and straighten it out back the way it was. I think I could have reformed it to make it bigger.

Velcro at Home Depot or Lowe's has a model with a strap (works like a belt without the buckle).

We had a sunglasses holder up above that we used for ours in our Toyota Camry. Not sure if they put those in Prius. It was a little door that opened.

Not there if you have a sun-roof.
But....my opener fits nicely on my Prius visor (2010). :beer3:

I guess Priuses don't have the feature that allows programming in your garage door frequency and open/close it with a button. Even my husband's 10-yaer-old Dodge has that.

Sure they do. It's called the HomeLink mirror option.

I taped mine in the holder so it did not fall out when I opened the holder.

You could adopt a dog and let him hold it.

The Prius isn't programmable for the garage opener?

I stuff some old newspaper under the front seat so the controller can't roll under there ......It works on all cars except a Toyota .....as they don't have a front seat .....HONEST !!!

We did not get the programmable option, as we have always had garage door openers that fit nicely on the visor. We have enough bells and whistles in this new car. It was just surprising that the visor is so thick that the Romac can't be secured.

The velcro strap belt thingy sounds promising. I will head in that direction.

Our older Chrysler van has it too. Sometimes older is better.

Does it apply to people too? I'm stickin' with that!

Both! The beloved yet aging (and discontinued) Dodge Magnum has the comfiest seats ever. And a garage door programmer.

The door openers are designed to fit American cars.

We love our new 2015 Prius 3. We traded in our 2007 which had 180K miles on it. Great cars!!

Didn't even have a desire to look at anything else, except perhaps a plug in electric. Unfortunately none of the dealers in Fla have them on the lot. they are special order only.

Big change from California where they can't keep the Plug Ins in stock. They have long waiting lists. We are still surprised that more electrics are not available here. How I would love to use even less gas. Although I can't complain about 45-50 mpg.

Our last Prius paid for itself in gas savings. You can't beat that!

I think they are very nice-looking cars, too. If only you could fit a golden retriever, a cockatiel in a cage, two suitcases, two duffel bags and two bag chairs in one of them...:sigh:

Dotti - there is a big difference between east coast and west perceptions about cars. For example I would likely never buy an electric car unless I could also buy a 75 mile long extension cord. I just don't know how you do it without them in Cali.

My wife has a 2005 M-B diesel with 46K miles. She gets 768 miles to a tank of fuel or about 38 MPG. Tough to beat that...and she can fit the stuff that CFrance listed that she wants to put in a car.

The Prius holds much more than you can imagine. the backseats fold down flat and we have carried several pieces of Lanai rattan furniture in it at one time. It appears to be a very small car, but the interior offers lots of very usable cubic feet of cargo space. When we were putting mulch in this spring, we carried 16-20 bags of mulch in one load. The guys at Lowe's were shocked that we could load that many bags into the car. '

My friends in Ca that have plug in electrics also have a gas engine. When the electric reaches it's max it seamlessly converts to the gas engine. Thus getting 90 +/- mpg. Thus no need for the super long cord to reach home! LOL! I would love to have one. But as long as Florida lags behind the rest of the country in Solar and alternative energy support from the government, it just won't happen.

In Utah, if you had solar, any excess went into the grid and you were paid (credit on your power bill), same as Ca and many other states. Plus state as well as Federal tax incentives to install solar. Dark ages here regarding alternative energy sources.

But back to my visor and garage door opener...........
