Pow! Lightning and wind in Gilchrist
1 Attachment(s)
Listen to the falling rain...
|
I saw a streak come straight down, it appeared not all that far away. Shortly afterwards, fire engines were rolling. Not sure if anything happened or not, but damnation, lots and lots of lightning and very loud thunder! Just hope no one stayed on the golf courses.
|
The Cat just went under the sofa in hillsborough. Oh boy.
|
I just lost another computer to lightening. Last time, it was repairable. As soon as the rain stops, I'm taking it to the guy.

It's the lightning capital of the U.S.! Only a real "dummy" continues to play golf when he hears thunder or sees lightning.
|
We were visiting our son this weekend in Boca Raton. A big storm came up and a huge bolt of lightening hit right outside the window where I was sleeping. I felt my hair stand on end. It tripped several breakers and blew out the satellite box. I don't know if it can come through the window or not.
|
I wonder how much rain did we get? That was one big storm.

A friend reported lightning hit somewhere in the parking lot near Publix at Southern Trace. She was there and said it got her attention! Haven't had a storm like this one that just went through, in quite a while! |

In Santiago, we got 2-3/4" rain per our rain gauge
|
1.98 Inches Tallyridge/Wheeling area of the Village of Glenbrook.
|
I need to get a rain gage. We live near Santiago. Thanks for the update on rain totals.
|
Strong storm
Was at Walmart on 466 when the storm came through. It rained so hard that we were forced to stay in the store for 40 minutes until it calmed down enough to walk outside. There was a lot of thunder and lightening too. The store's lights dimmed several times. Didn't seem like we got it as bad in Sanibel.
|
Wesh2 News reported 2.5 inches of rain in less than two hours in The Villages. That is significant.
BUT we didn't see the warning us of this severe thunderstorm in Sumter county on our TV. AND no warning call on our phones. Wonder why? |
Same for us here in St. James. Finally a decent rain; hopefully some of the courses ponds will get some water replenished.

All I know is when my cat goes under the sofa, I start paying attention to my surroundings.

Just dumped 3.5 inches out of my rain gage in Palto Alto
|
3-1/2 here in Buttonwood...
|
It was windy enough and raining hard enough in Summerhill that my front windows and door were soaked, even though they're 4' inside a covered lanai. I got up to look outside because the raindrops were so loud and heavy against the house at one point I honestly thought it might be hailing.
While we were getting pasted, I checked the weather widget on my Internet home page and it said sunny and 95. Pfft. |
We were at the movies at LSL and OMG I couldn't believe the
Noise. I have lived in FLA for almost 18 years and always shocked at how people don't respect bad weather more! |
Lots of thunder and nearby lightning and it is really impressive with my golf course view from my Florida room.
Very glad that I have lightning rods on the house. Makes me feel a lot safer. |
not much in Charlotte
Only 0.3" in our rain gauges in Charlotte. :grumpy:
|
I felt safe in my home with lightning rods installed. It was a heavy rain storm. DS said about 3 inches of rain fell.
I have a healthy respect for Florida's thunderstorms as they can be violent!!! |
We have lightning rods on our house in Missouri....several years ago...lightning struck those rods.....and the electromagnetic field took out everything electronic in the entire house...the phones, the tv's the computers, the guitar amp....anything with a microchip. But the house itself remained in tact.
I did not realize tha central Florida is called Lightning Alley! WOW!!!! |

I have 4 solar tubes and one storm last summer, made my home look like a disco, with lightning flashes. |
You can buy a whole house surge protect @ Home Depot, It plugs into your panel, just like a circuit breaker-get one -its a no brainer.

Unless you have the SECO mini surge protectors plugged into each device they don't pay the whole house protector only covers appliances |
