Whose movies do you binge watch?

Library Guide to Binge-Watching | The New York Public Library

I have been watching some of Clint Eastwork's works. Just finished watching Blood Work again last night.

2BNTV 07-26-2015 08:30 AM

Trying to watch "Games of Thrones" but the initial two episodes left me, somewhat uninterested.

Hopefully, it will pick-up as my son seems to love it and has the complete series.

Tal:

Did you know that John Wayne was offered "Dirty Harry" before Clint Eastwood and turned it down, as he thought it was too violent.

He surely lamented, that poor decision.

Thanks for that information, 2BNTV. I had not known that. I love Game of Thrones the Series anyway. The books require a huge amount of brain cells IMHO trying to remember all the hundreds of characters and many different kingdom histories. The Series nor the books appeal to everyone.

Currently, I am watching the Danish TV series, Rita (Mille Dinesen) on Netflix. This story about a school teacher can be a little risque at times and some language may offend (subtitles), but it's good stuff. It also happens to be worth the price of admission just to watch Rita walk around in her tight jeans.

Did you know that John Wayne was offered "Matt Dillon" in Gunsmoke. He is the one that recommended James Arness for the part.

Madelaine Amee 07-26-2015 10:15 AM

I like Woody Allen's movies. Loved "Midnight in Paris". I have no interest in his private life, just like his movies.

redwitch 07-26-2015 10:54 AM

The original three Star Wars movies, Eastwood's spaghetti westerns, Fast & Furious franchise, any and all Star Trek movies, and, when in the right mood, anything directed by Ron Howard or Penny Marshall. For oldies, Edward G., Cagney, Fred & Ginger, Tracy & Hepburn, anything by either Audrey or Kate. Oh, yeah, have seriously binged on the older Jackie Chan movies. Then there's just the good ole gratuitous violence movies (most be totally unrealistic and good for a giggle or two, no Halloween types). Really not a fan of serious drama or chick flicks.

That's something I might like.

My husband, not me: Back to the Future, Tremors and Sharknado.

gomsiepop 07-26-2015 01:37 PM

Netflix series, "Grace and Frankie" with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda is so funny that my husband and I watched the entire series in two days. Can't wait until next year!

I have seen all of those except for the latest Sharknado more than once. Did see the last Sharknado too but they are really getting silly.

We will probably watch the latest Sharknado tonight. There will be a 4 because we get to decide if Tara's character lives or dies. What fun!

Loved the Harry Potter books and movies.

Barefoot 07-26-2015 05:58 PM

I've also been watching Rita. Funny, but definitely not for everyone!

I really liked the series. It's hard to believe Fonda is 77 and Tomlin is 75.

WARNING: SIDETRACK ALERT

I just discovered Scribd.com. It's all you can consume too for $8.99/month but it's books. comics and audiobooks.
I love audio books. In the last two weeks I was traveling and listened to 4 audio books [ear binging while I'm doing something else]. I must have tried out another 6 audiobooks that I abandoned. I have been sampling cookbooks and herb garden books and Rick Steves books.
That's what I love about the all you can eat digital services. The most it can cost is $8.99/month.

CONTINUING SIDETRACK ALERT ...
How do you listen to the audio books? Do you have an iPod?
I'm still buying used CDs at the used book store at Colony Plaza.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is the best part.
Go to the scribd.com and sign up for a 2 week trial.
You can use it on all your devices. Today I connected my tv surround sound speakers to the headphone jack of my smartphone and listened to "Heat" while poking around the web looking for cruise prices.

HEAT

My problem is, I don't have a lot of devices! I don't have a smart phone.
If I want to download books and listen to them while I'm driving, don't I need an iPod to do that?

TeleRead: Will audiobooks be downloadable for offline listening, or will they be streaming only?

Scribd: Both. We think the majority of users will take advantage of streaming audiobooks since its instant and frictionless. However, if you’re hopping on a plane, train or anywhere else without wi-fi, you can download them to your device for offline listening. And there are no limits on how many audiobooks or eBooks you can store to your device – save as many as your device can hold. (Note that this is a change. Previously, the app was limited to 20 downloaded books. No longer.)

1] What do you have? Do you have a laptop?

Just a thought, and I need help with this so jump in if what I am suggesting is not correct.

2] What if you bought a cheap used smartphone. At home you would set it up to attach to your wireless network and download the book. In the car you would play it back. You do not need the smartphone to work as a telephone.

I can download FREE audiobooks from the library on my iPad, lots of them.
I want to listen to them when we're driving from Canada to Florida (26 hours).
My problem is, I don't know how to listen to them. I think I need an iPod.
For me, it's probably easier to continue to buy CDs for the trip. Technology baffles me.

SORRY for the hijack - back to movies!

Yup!!! I'm not sure Wayne regretted that decision as it would have taken up a lot of time, to devote to that series, that ran, about 20 years.

I am a fan of the older stars and enjoy some of the back stories, of the older movie stars.

Buy an adapter for your auto cassette player, plug in and play your iPad through it (if your car has one).

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen was Woody Allen's, "Take The Money and Run" from the early 70's. "Sleeper" was another good one.

tomwed 07-31-2015 02:39 PM

Netflix also has a collection of Paul Newman movies that worth binging on a rainy day. Nobody's Fool is probably my favorite movie [along with the Godfather & Pulp Fiction] and that's in the Netflix collection.

I was watching Season Two of Rita last night on Netflix. I thought of you Ecuadog.
The series isn't for everyone, but I love it. And Rita does have a spectacular bum.

I've never watched Nobody's Fool. But if you like Godfather and (especially) Pulp Fiction, one of my favorites, you should try The Usual Suspects...possibly my favorite movie of all time.

HimandMe 09-11-2015 08:57 PM

Murdoch Mysteries on Netflix.....and Out of Africa...love that movie!

I'll have to put Nobody's Fool on my Watch List. I last watched Netflix a few years back- it sure has improved a lot.

"Spectacular bum" Now I will really have to check that out.

TV shows I have missed

We find a series once in awhile that we somehow missed when it first came out (ie Blue Bloods) and will watch the old episodes every night during the summer when there are no new shows until we catch up.

But for real binge watching especially if I have the flu. Doctor Who and Serenity and old star gate episodes.

Thanks jBlum, we buy books now on CDs. However I have the ability to download free audio books now on my iPad.
I was just trying to figure out how to play them from my iPad, and I think Tom and Midvale helped me with my question.

I could binge on Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep movies. It's because they are not just one kind of character like so many other actors.

Blessed2BNTV 09-12-2015 11:24 AM

Watching The Big Bang Theory....never watched it during the seasons..just starting watching it.

It's on several times a day, so I am able to record and watch when I want.

Love the humor!

Allegiance 09-12-2015 08:13 PM

The Godfather I, The Godfather II, Goodfellas, A Bronx Tale

jblum315 09-13-2015 03:25 AM

I love the noir films from the 30s and 40s. Humphrey bogart, James Cagney Robert Mitchum I like to collect several on Netflix and watch them back to back. The only series I really binged on was The Sopranos, 3 or 4 episodes at a time. Oh, and House of Cards. Don't like Game of Thrones, too gory and sexist

Game of Thrones has some very strong female characters and some very weak male ones. For a cable show, it is about medium on gore when compared with various other offerings like Spartacus, Rome, Strike Back, and True Detective.

I love film noir too though.
