I'll keep my fingers, legs, toes, and eyes crossed that the storm dies out before reaching the Villages, FL and it's residents! :o

Sending prayers to all of you in The Villages waiting as the storm passes through. Be safe!

Handi, thanks for starting the thread and the updates. We are in New Jersey and the Florida storm coverage is quite extensive but not central Florida specific. We appreciate your thoughtfulness in updating in live time. Our thoughts are with our friends and neighbors in The Villages. Be safe....God bless.

It's 9:47 and all is dry. Golfers have been on Palmer. Dark clouds are starting to show up in the Eastern sky.

Re: Tropical Storm Update

I called my buddy JoJo and she said that the eye was predicted to pass close to LadyLake. Not good news. I wish, I wish, you all had basements. Wish there was a way TV could build some fortified places and take it out of our amenities. I sure would like THAT. They could even do it without asking me..........

samhass 08-19-2008 02:09 PM

Re: Tropical Storm Update

It's 10:08 and the skies have opened up. Rain is coming in sideways across Lake Sumter.
Several golf carts just went flying by.. heading up to and passing the 7th hole of Riley.

Re: Tropical Storm Update

I hope you don't mean that they were literally flying? Saying a prayer for all of you that you are safe through this storm. Please keep us posted.

Had to dash from my first pickleball beginners organized play at Coconut Cove at 10 a.m. Started with some sun at 9 a.m. Tropical storms come in bands and that's what's happening. Right now it's just drizzling.

billethkid 08-19-2008 02:17 PM

Re: Tropical Storm Update

Seems we have just experienced a short (duration) bit of rain and wind. Looking at the animated weather map it is one of the Northernmost outer bands. The all day stuff is soon to arrive.

I would also like to share my interpretation of the latest set of computer models this morning:

:dontknow: = "we have no idea where it is going next" :joke:

I'm sorry..bad choice of words under the circumstances :duck:
Let me rephrase my statement. " Several golf carts just went by at high speed. All four wheels appeared to be on the ground but my eyes aren't what they used to be!! ;)

Thanks, wiw1819, for any update...I feel bad for the poor guy. I can only imagine the fear that was going on within him knowing that he would probably hit something that wasn't going to be as soft as the sand was.

All the yards on my street were mowed this morning before the rain. They came a day early with anticipation of missing a couple days this week because of the rain

About the man thrown across the highway by strong winds -

I emailed the TV station. Their reply at this point is that he is in the hospital in critical condition.
What a sad bizarre occurrence.

Grace and Chelsea..Go to Handi's desk. He's gonna spank you two.
As for the weather, the sun has been shining brightly over Lake Sumter. I took a nice walk about outside. The wind is blowing and it is mahvelous right now. Winds appear to be coming in from the east.

Re: Tropical Storm Update

I can just visualize this scene - taken from the posts.

Sam is taking a leisurely walk and a gust of wind blows up - what does she see?

She can not believe her eyes, :yikes: :yikes:, blowing in the wind are inflatable ladies in the nude and sheep. She rubs her eyes to make sure she is not dreaming.

This time when she opens her eyes she sees Handie running crap crap crap crap after all of the inflatables and yelling to Sam to help him.

For all of us who are not in TV - you now have the latest update of what is happening in TV. ;)

As you can see life in TV is completely normal, meaning all us "in residence members" are so concerned that this thread is completely out of control
Eddie! get out of the closet, Chel go tend to your cats, Sam go for another walk and in the meantime, I'm deflating all my inflatable toys
Geesh youse guys are incorigable
Handie :joke:

1rnfl 1rnfl 1rnfl 1rnfl But SWRINFL you are one of us! We're all ducking butterfly nets! :a20:

OK, so now it's windy here. Remember there is just a big open space across 466A. Lots of open spaces here. It's odd. No rain. Just gusts of wind. Hey, that FAYE better stay away from my new hibiscus bushes! I'll kick her windy rearend! (Did that come out right?) :o

Hahaha Handie, why are you deflating them. Just in case the power goes out (if ya know what I mean wink wink.) ;) :joke:

We were once out in western New York State (!) where a tornado touched down a few miles from where we were, picked up 22 calves, and deposited them a distance away (3 in trees...). Talk about freak!

Definitely equally freak; you have to ask, though, what the man was doing out in a kite during a tropical storm....

Oh Hyacinth, you definitely have to go to Mrs Grace's desk!!!! 1rnfl 1rnfl

Hi wiw, just saw this on the national news and, yes, the 26-year old is in critical condition. His apparatus had an emergency release but he was unable to grab it due to the wind according to those in the know.

HE WAS WIND SURFING! Brilliant eh? He was picked up off the surf, bounced once on the beach then picked up again, sailed across the highway and slammed into the building by the storm. Ah to be in my twenties again young and stupid, nevermind. I'd rather be "mature" and stupid.
