18 totv messages, 1-2 positive/neutral in tone

IMO, totV posts have become 80% or more negative in tone, and half of those lacking negative tone are advertisements.

Villager Joyce 08-17-2015 04:37 PM

Agreed.

golfing eagles 08-17-2015 04:50 PM

What the f*** do you mean? Are you some kind of a$$h***?
This place $uck$. There is nothing to do ever, people die of boredom---no golf, no entertainment, no clubs, no shows, no movies. The population has grown to 5.5 million, it take 6 hours to drive 3 blocks whether by car or cart. The line out the doors of the restaurants stretch to Tampa and the food is unfit for dogs. You pay 11 million for a house worth 200K, the Morse's are charlatans who built nothing worthwhile at all. And you wonder why 80% of posts are negative?:a20:
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

kittygilchrist 08-17-2015 04:57 PM

Subject of OP is not the place, it is the negative tone of posts.
Your humorous post maybe intersected with happy hour?
Jolly well Appreciate it!

I personally appreciate a heads up on a service provider or establishment that should be avoided.
On the other hand I have also found excellent people to deal with from TOTV.
All positive comments would be misleading. The Villages and area are great, and I love it here, but TV is not without negatives.

That's why I apologized for my inability to resist my sarcasm muse. But you must admit most negative posts are either complaints about TV in general, complaints about a vendor, especially restaurants, and complaints that border on personal attacks on another poster. ( I hope I successfully incorporated all three in my post). I wish it WAS "happy hour", but stuck in central NY for the time being, very few hours are as happy as they are in TV

kittygilchrist 08-17-2015 05:18 PM

positive or negative perspective....well-expressed eagle!
We need some patriotic music, cheerleaders and mood magic here on totv!

I agree with you Kitty. Many times I'll receive a private message instead of the answer being posted on the forum. They would rather do that than put up with some of the responses to their post.

Thought for the day or a day:
Sometimes when people disagree with our thinking, we consider it to be negative.

I guess the % just increased a little more

Bay Kid 08-18-2015 06:37 AM

Don't worry, be happy!

graciegirl 08-18-2015 06:50 AM

Correcting misinformation, quelling rumors and trying to be positive is kind of a challenge at times. Our parents generation rarely praised, that is how they raised children, and that may have stuck with many. You don't say ANYTHING unless something is WRONG. Also many new people are skeptical and uncomfortable with all that is right, casting about to see if this place really is this good.

This is the nicest place that adults could find to enjoy their victory laps in my humble opinion.

We have far fewer years ahead of us than behind us. Why waste them on negativity? My head is not in the sand but my realistic view is here for all to see. I love this place. It is ANOTHER beautiful day in The Villages. Hugs to y'all.

kathygeorge 08-18-2015 06:57 AM

We are planning on down there. Is what you say for real, or are you joking?

In response to Golfing Eagle, we are planning on moving down, are you serious? Didn't know if my previous reply would be understood since I couldn't see the quote I was referring to.

Please reread. One of his posts was tongue in cheek. The one's following it explained he was kidding.

Jumping to negative conclusions happens a lot on this forum.

Welcome to the forum, kathygeorge. When are you coming to see this lovely place?

Except for worrying about an extremely unlikely coyote attack or some other unforeseen misfortune (lighting strikes) , the Villages is a great place to be for me in 2015. I can put up with the occasion personal attacks or rude/insulting remarks on TOTV too (but I will report them in the hope that they stop all together). I have seen far worse on some of the message boards (mainly Findlaw and Facebook occasionally after 2014 or so) I have been using since 2001 or so. And, my 224 613 Project (on no, not that again) seems to be doing extremely well. Since I have been working on this since January 1991 in MN, LA, CA, IL and FL with many NV, NJ, TX, MA, DC, VA and NY connections; it is about time that I see some real fruits from all that labor. I am kind of assuming the best in people though with this Project's development. 2016 and 2017 should be even more interesting. I am with Graciegirl, it is another beautiful day in the Villages. So glad that we moved from Palm Harbor, Florida in 2005 to here. I too respect the Morses' vision but there are of course various problems which TOTV helps to solve in some small way or even in larger ways depending on who looks at TOTV. You never know who might be reading these posts.

OMG, I'm so sorry---looks like I seriously confused you, please re-read the thread. I'm 100% with GG, this place is wonderful, and I haven't even moved in full time yet. You will find on TOTV there are 99% of us in love with TV, and about 1-2% who constantly have something to complain about, hence the OP's reference to negative posts. I just couldn't resist posting what I thought was humorous hyperbole, since most of us are familiar with who posts what in general. I never thought I could be taken seriously. So like Bob Barker said "kathygeorge, come on down!"

Tal - I believe not only the remainder of 2015 will be good for you in TV, but great for you in the years to come!

Bonny 08-18-2015 08:08 AM

All I can say is, I LOVE THE VILLAGES !! A big thank you to Harold and all the Morse family for creating this wonderful place for us to spend the rest of our lives. We been here over 15 years and I love it as much now as I did when we first moved here. :)

Amen!

Not a day goes by that I don't pinch myself to see if it is real...Yes. I really do live in The Villages!!

gap2415 08-18-2015 08:25 AM

Some post only when they have a problem. I would not consider that negative.

However, when a person who rarely posts or posts for the first time, receives back UNDUE criticism or jokes when they are really serious, I consider that negative. And yet, if we stop people from being who they are and limit speech...we don't gain. We also can't pinpoint the ones we can ignore when we see their post.

Probably, but that's because we know the score. I tried reading it from the perspective of a newbie who may have just made one of the most important decisions of their lives, and could see where a little instant panic might have set in.

George Bieniaszek 08-18-2015 08:47 AM

I have a theory regarding the habitual complainers --

"Some people are miserable if they wake up and have nothing to complain about!"

2BNTV 08-18-2015 08:52 AM

Best decision I ever made in moving to TV.

Sometimes people in a rush don't express themselves fully and that leads to miscommunication.

I agree to general tone on TOTV has become more negative and have comemplated leaving the forum several times.

One advantage to being on the forum for awhile, is knowing who kids around and who doesn't. Like some said, we tend to know the score and it's players.

I think you are a great addition to this forum sir. A little humor sometimes has to be explained once in awhile, Sometimes more to blondes...sometimes not.

Incoming.

Don't you mean "usually" to blondes? I get to say that since I'm married to one.

billethkid 08-18-2015 09:33 AM

I think post number 14 hit the nail on the head.

All too often when ANYBODY either disagrees with something or offers a difference of opinion or expresses another preference it is viwed as "negative".

When it is not. It is only natural.

twoplanekid 08-18-2015 10:53 AM

I hope I am allowed to put my two cents in even though I have only stayed in TV for a few weeks. Actually, my wife has spent two winters in TV. While I haven’t counted my exact number of days in TV, I do believe it has been more than a couple of weeks. How long does it take to know TV?

I would hope to not scare interested parties into thinking that they really need to spend years learning the place before deciding to move here. It’s no Shangri-La. But Shangri-La is a fictional place. As I purchase a house here last year, it must not be too bad of a place to live.

Too negative? Too positive? Or just about right?:icon_wink:

kittygilchrist 08-18-2015 11:27 AM

It is the OP here. So i agree that almost everyone here is gloriously happy or close to it.
Why do so many use totv to snivel and whine?
I do not know!
But I remember a linguistics course where the yiddish "kvetch" was introduced in a study
Whose results implied that complaining is the most frequent thing we do!

Some more stuff on the topic...

This is where you are wrong. It IS Shangra-la. Maybe even Shangra-la la la.

My deal is that one needs to stay awhile before the campaigns to affect change. I love this place exactly the way it is. Some people would like to have a better political balance, but I am on the side that has more so it is great with me.

I think you will be the dandiest villager there is Two Plane Kid. You come from a great town in a great state and have a great name. You have a great family and two airplanes. We just don't need to change the speed limit on the golf carts for starters.
