Colony Modern Dentistry - Misled

Called for a dental cleaning appointment as I was overdue and got an appointment within 3 days. Got there was charged for panoramic XRays and the dentist exam but then was told that there is a hygienist shortage and I would be put on a list for a cleaning in 6-8 months. The cleaning is what I went in for so now I have to start all over looking for a new dentist.

Bait and Switch

I use to go to them until they stopped taking my insurance.

This seems to be the new MO of dentists. Kind of like the meet and greet The Villages Health center. In two years we never did find a dentist that would arrange a cleaning and xrays at the first appointment and take it from there. Moved out of the area and found exactly what we were looking for within a few months.

I will never go to a TV dentist again. What a scam. Always trying to sell more services.

Laurie2 08-19-2015 08:57 AM

We did fine with Marion Dental, near Billy's Cafe on 441, so not golf cart accessible. Marion Dental was recommended to us by a friend who has lived in TV for many years and knows the territory.

Bryant Dental

Ask for Alex for a cleaning

We went to Colony Modern Dentistry until they double billed us and charged us for services on days that we weren't even in the country. Stay away!

Phanatic Luvr 08-19-2015 10:16 AM

Try Dr. Heydari at Aesthetic Dental (52) 633-2157. They are located across 466A from Colony Plaza. His Hygienist is Yvonne and did a great cleaning on my teeth about a month ago. He is not one who pushes anything on you but will tell you what he has found and it is then your decision. So far the best I have found in The Villages. He also has replaced two of my crowns, which needed to be done, and he fit them far superior than any dentists I've ever been to. Good luck!!!!!

Went there for a new patient visit and left. Agree with another poster - go outside The Villages.

Just for curiosity's sake; how does a poster with only a single post ever, have any credibility in bashing an established business?
Could he/she have an agenda?

biker1 08-19-2015 11:34 AM

I didn't detect any bashing - seems like he/she only described what happened. You are, of course, free to use this information in any way you wish.

I concur. Especially when it regards a professional care provider. I don't know the dentist about whom the OP wrote, but it always bothers me when someone discredits or accuses a professional of something untoward. My dentist recently sold his practice. His replacement is quite good, very professional, and at the end of my first visit gave me a list of several things he recommended be done over time. It was not a sales effort. He presented it factually and included the cost. And I appreciated the information.

I started going to Lifetime Dentistry up on 441 by Walmart. Only been once, but they seem pretty good, new office and they take my insurance (most around here don't). They did about 35 x-rays, first time visit, and also the cleaning.

biker1 08-19-2015 11:43 AM

Reread the OP. It sounds like he (she) asked for and was granted an appointment to have his (her) teeth cleaned but this did not happen. If the intent was to do only a new patient visit and not clean his teeth then this should have been made clear when the appointment was granted.

I am a RDH, exam and xrays for new patients are standard procedure. If she had xrays taken within two years by another dentist they could have been used. She would not be given an appointment with the hygienist until second appointment. She should have spoken up when they started to take the xrays if she did not want them. The xrays can be sent to another dentist if she decides to go elsewhere. Obviously, there was no "bait and switch" .

Dentistry on the Square!

Excellent practice

I agree with your statement regarding normal procedures for new patient visit, but 6-8 months for a cleaning is NOT acceptable! Wouldn't you agree? Patient should have been told this on the phone before making the first appointment.

danders3 09-02-2015 06:31 PM

Thank you for that info

Deter1 09-02-2015 06:46 PM

Make sure you get copies of the xrays, you paid for them. Another dentist will gladly accept them. Suggest you try Dr Gonzalez at Carolina Dentures on 466.

JoMar 09-02-2015 06:56 PM

Suggest Lake View Dentistry in Traveres......not the plaza but the town. Understand they have a pretty good Villagers clientele. They came highly recommended to us and the recommendation was accurate....exceptional dentist Tim Pruett, exceptional staff. Sometimes you need to leave to leave the reservation to find the right providers.

Our Patrick goes to Dr. Heydari. He and his whole staff are wonderful with him, and the ONLY place to have done successful whole mouth Xrays on him.

I've been using Dr. Barnett, at Laurel Manor since I came to TV 11 years ago and have never had a problem with him.
