Ohio State gets unanimous pre-season first place ranking

Gee. A defending national champion with the 42nd toughest schedule gets ranked #1. The only SEC team with an easier schedule than Ohio State is Missouri.

Kahuna32162 08-23-2015 06:03 PM

Let's remember what happened to them in the first game last year.

twoplanekid 08-23-2015 07:08 PM

For a team to start the season the way they did, to go through all of the adversity with quarterbacks and to then win the nation championship, everyone else is envious as heck. Go Bucks!

True. Excellent achievement with a 3rd string quarterback. O H I O. Go Bucks!:pepper2:

The best man at my wedding was from Dayton and had played in the band at Ohio State. Great guy!

BAD News for Ohio State Fans

From the Washington Post:

"As far as an indication of how Ohio State might do, the preseason poll isn’t always a good omen. The Buckeyes were the No. 1 preseason pick in 1998 and 2006 and both times finished second nationally. The last team to win the national title after being ranked first in the preseason poll was USC in 2004 and the Trojans’ championship was vacated because of NCAA rules violations. The only other team to be ranked No. 1 from the preseason poll through the national championship was Florida State in 1999."

And the the Buckeyes will have sell out crowds when they play Rhode Island A&M or whoever to witness a blowout.
What many don't realize is not only does a team with a creampuff schedule have a successful season but they can save their players for the playoffs. The SEC beats up each other all season long playing top teams week after week.

And the SEC is far more fun to watch.

Urban, I am happy for you.
OS became my second fave college team last year.

BS Beef 08-24-2015 05:49 PM

I'm sure it comes as no surprise to any one in SEC country but it's a well known fact that President Obama made Alabama lose to Ohio State in the play-offs. It is obvious to any one that no SEC team could possibly lose to……well any team, EVER.

The upside for SEC fans is the unanimous pre-season pick is pretty must the death knell for any chance the Buckeyes had of repeating.

I was impressed with Alabama playing Middle Tennessee State, Louisiana Monroe, and Charleston Southern this year. Now to take on those powerhouses this year is just incredible.

OSU will meet its downfall this November

in the Big House with Harbaugh!

twoplanekid 10-18-2015 08:15 AM

OSU is looking better after every game and I believe is still #1.

Not looking better in uniforms though in my opinion. All black is just plan ugly for OSU. I'm for the traditional uniforms.

GG - you know how much I like the Buckeyes. I was at a function tonight at a table (in Orlando) with 2 buckeye fans. They could not explain or justify why OSU should be rated above #42. Don't shoot the messenger.

I'm confused. Your argument is there are 41 teams better than Ohio State? If that's your impression I'm pretty sure no argument would convince you otherwise. The most difficult schedule changes week to week so not sure how you'd base the rankings on that. The team with the most difficult schedule at the beginning of the season (ND) lost. Should they still be #1?

I actually want to like Ohio State but we are originally from Michigan but lived most of our married lives in Dayton, but hubby still stayed true to Michigan after all these years. Our son is a buckeye fan and my husband is Michigan all the way. My sister-in-law is also a huge Michigan fan, but her sister is a huge Michigan State fan. You can imagine how hard it is to live around any of them when these games are going on! Hubby also secretly likes Michigan State some of the time also!

mitchbr47 10-25-2015 01:21 PM

They aren't the only undefeated BIG 10 school with Iowa and MSU up there too. I think Baylor deserves #1, but their QB is banged up.
